  1. It was a great little piece, I enjoyed it! The replica of the cake was a hoot!
  2. "Because not everyone likes the sauce on the cake the coconut gets too soggy." I always always always laugh when he spits the grape seeds out and the window is closed.
  3. I live in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii.I've used RSIP and they're great! It gets pricey if you have to pay for your meal and the delivery fee (and tip) solo but if it's for an office order and the delivery fee can be divided, then it's pretty reasonable. There's two Chinese places I can think of off hand that deliver (that are not a part of RSIP): California Wok in Ala Moana Center and a place in City Square in Kalihi (can't remember the name). The pizza places that I know deliver: Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Domino's, La Pizza Rina. ← It's called Cybee's. No one delivers to Kaneohe, we're in a virtual wasteland for food anyway over here! When our dog was dying we couldn't cook and we got sick of the stuff avaliable for carry-out which is limited to say the least over here. I love visiting my friend in Andersonville in Chicago, everything is available there! It's pure delight to just stay in and enjoy each other's company and have food delivered!
  4. I don't know that I'd pay for canned eels on a menu when he had the bounty of Hawaii at his hands with no budget whatsoever.
  5. Yup! All of the above especially lau lau although I don't like chicken lau lau that much. Our dogs Manele & Koele love poi mixed with their food. Maggie our basenji-pitbull absolutely loved poi, coincidentally enough when she was dying she really would only like poi and we had a container of Hanalei Poi dated 9/28/04 which happened to be the day she left this planet, very chicken skin!
  6. chocolate Decadence cake? I recall working for the Levy Organization in the 80's that was a big deal on lots of the menus and in the catering division where I was working.
  7. Yes, those pastele sausages are amazing! I don't like their portuguese sausage though NS Cattle Co. is preferred in our house. I like the Maui watercress alot too, a little bit more than Sumida's. Good news, in two weeks carrots return, their tops are coming through the ground very nicely according to reliable sources. Got some really good and sweet corn yesterday too. Probably the Foodland here won't have Ho's tomatoes, our Foodland bites, so does our Times and Safeway with the new remodel has become a joke, I only shop there to see all the nice people I've come to know over the past 13 years. For goodness sake, I actually shopped the Kailua Safeway to get bare essentials! A hui hou! Off to eat a papaya we just picked
  8. Pastele sausages! YOW! Amazing! Kukui Sausage Co. GET SOME! They had their kimchee sausage on a bun today which we bought a couple weeks ago (in a package/frozen) luscious! We got lots and lots of gorgeous tiny tomatoes in all shapes and colors from Ho Farms, lots of beets ( more beet tops for the girls), MA'O Farms greens, tons of stuff from Maui which you can now order online and pick up at the market - great for folks like us that can't get it together to arrive early! Some very fragrant orchids and other orchids, lots of great citrus from the Maui booth, I can't remember everything but the car was packed! We then went to the BIA (building) show and the covered parking kept everything nice and fresh! BTW we had a really lovely lunch at Brew Moon in the Ward Centre after, don't think the wasabi aioli is what you'd think it is, it is actually "loose" to quote the really wonderful server but actually is water/wasabi powder with no flavor this is served with the blackened ahi sandwich which was crackling with flavor and bacon (at first we were skeptical) and avocado that could stand on it's own - and did - that "wasabi aioli" was just a travesty. The food and our server and the fresh brewed beers were wonderful. The only thing that was a bummer was seeing the new "state bird" the construction crane as part of the horizon toward Punchbowl and the surrounding valleys. A hui hou!
  9. Cold Heaven! We love this wine! a hui hou!
  10. Yahoo! Alii Kula Lavender is coming tomorrow - and if you didn't pre-order/pay get there EARLY they sell out of all the cool things! If you ever get the chance - GO!!!!! The lavender farm is like being in heaven, the views, the care and love for the plants (lavender, protea, etc.) is so inspiring! a hui hou!
  11. Right now I'm roasting whole plum tomatoes which takes about 4 hours give or take and some of those gorgeous purple striped baby eggplant and some beets. I'm making my dogs' food with NS beef, beet tops, purple sweet potatoes, celery, and carrots all from the market. Last night I made watercress soup with that awesome Maui watercress and a little stir fry of mini white potatoes, NS Cattle Company Andouille and red bell peppers, along with a salad of Ma'o farms greens, Big Island hears of palm and NS Big Wave tomatoes with that Kula Strawberry syrup/balsamic dressing. The only thing not from the market was the balsamic vinegar. For Italian Parsley we just buy plants from Growing Creations (Ed) and use that all the time, his plants are really good and produce. Off to check the dog food! A hui hou!
  12. What dissapointing news. Maybe they'll reconsider and keep a terrific show. Certainly many thanks to you Chris for great entertainment with your wonderful personality and camera presence. No doubt you are proud of a great job done! A hui hou!
  13. The beeswax candles are neat. The strawberry syrup from Maui is excellent. Mix it with some balsamic vinegar for a really great dressing. We love the ginger syrup too. The list is longer than yours of stuff that my husband bought yesterday, he loves going there. Slow Foods has had a few benefits at town in the past year which are always fun to attend. Often you'll see Ed Kenney of town buying up loads and loads of produce for the restaurant on Saturdays. A hui hou
  14. on the front of Star Extra Virgin Olive Oil. "This olive oil enhances salads, vegetables and all foods when a rich olive flavor is preferred" he says. Very nice picture as well. Was I suprised - yes, are you? a hui hou
  15. Whoops! Not what I meant to do....anyway I agree with this one. But what I wanted to do was ask what time of day? Weekend day? I'll come up with some ideas! A hui hou!
  16. Miami as the last show? Boo-Hoo We were hoping you'd come see us over here in Hawaii! Maybe next season? You could join the many helicopters that fly over my house in the valley that take tourists to see the Stairway to Heaven. When they film stuff they fly so low I can see their faces and sometimes they even hang out on straps outside of the 'copter with their cameras rolling, it's actually kind of scary to watch! A hui hou!
  17. I actually read and tried this - buy some bay leaves and spread them in the cupboard (the back area is good as they won't fall out when you remove items) to discourage flour and other bugs. I googled "bugs in flour" and was just amazed at the amount of information. This proved to be the most useful tip culled from my reading. I agree with Sparrowgrass that the freezing is essential. Also, do you date the jar/container/bag they come in so you know when you opened them? I get a lot of things from Penzey's in the plastic bag which is why I say bag. Good luck and a hui hou!
  18. Kent - that is really a lovely picture! I shall now go out back and tell my tree all about it and hopefully it will bear fruit this year! A hui hou!
  19. Aloha Chris! I just saw your picture and read about you in the USA TODAY section of the Sunday paper. Fun little write-up! A hui hou Oops! I had to edit, I get a few Sunday papers and originally I thought it was that Parade section which looks the same and has about the same sort of content.
  20. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Butter Burgers!!!!!!! I love CULVER'S!!!!!! We even have a coffee mug with a little burger that spins around on the handle from there! I'm jealous!!!!! Bon Appetit and a hui hou! Don't forget your cheesehead.......
  21. O.K., I'm knee deep in the hoopla of an inner ear problem and sinus cavity havoc but let me say: - frozen waffles? When we were watching we were wondering "Where did the waffle maker come from?" then we find out they were frozen. ......not quite the same ingredient but a pre-made bagel then a rotisserie chicken? So Cliff's dish wasn't so pretty but it was in my opinion - knowing lots of surfers - satisfying and if any of these people ever went to our North Shore that is what surfers would want. Marcel - O.K. I have mixed feelings about his Joker/Batman hair but I too have come to both like and dislike him, the whole surfer lingo thing was too much however. Frank saying a "chef is always a gentleman" was so way strange we just didn't understand it although at that level of "take your knives and go" he was more gracious than Josie & Carlos. Frank is a good pugelist I'll give him that and possibly from that he should have gone long ago. I am waiting for next week when Ted Allen & Ilan - I totally love Ted Allen in book and TV show - look like they are either separated at birth OR father and son by the magic medicine........I know I will get some comments about that, or not. Betty is bothersome to us but who knows, I don't want to go longer with my ear problem but who will win is not in our hands - o.k. so what about Padma's outfit at the beach? I'll stop at that, we are about to have dinner and should probably stop now..........
  22. I was just in Chicago and attended the Food & Wine magazine event and met Bruce Sherman. He was so interesting to talk to. I was intrigued by his display of brussel sprouts and other veggies at his station - his dish was an amazing salmon creation - and I asked him about the brussel sprouts. He immediately with great enthusiasm started telling me about the farmer's market he goes to and exclaimed "GO THERE!" We explained we were in town so briefly and couldn't go. We have him high on our list for our May visit. We enjoyed our talk with him and his philosophies of fresh ingredients and related we talked about what is now more available here comparing notes, definitely would eat there! A hui hou!
  23. Aloha Chris! We just got back from Chicago yesterday and there you were on our TV when we ate pizza we'd frozen to bring home and ate watching the show! I had my birthday luncheon at Greek Islands in Lombard and it is just as fabulous as the original location. When we lived there we always went to the Greektown location or sometimes the Parthenon. I remember a character "Petros the Happy Host of Halstead Street" from a long time ago. Anyway we had a really great meal at Ditka's of all places as well. Enjoyed the show, keep up the great work! A hui hou
  24. I like it in peppermint tea!
  25. Yum! That sounds so good! Thanks for sharing! A hui hou!
