They still have a lot of franchises in the midwest...

I like the roast beef sandwiches (especialy with fresh onions and horseradish sauce) but the fries aren't as good as McDonalds.

Would this also be the case with the second most popular ethnic cuisine in the US, Chinese? Even though the 2 countries are vastly different sizes, their internal divisions and regions make classification of a codified national cuisine difficult. This being the case I can't see that it is anyones "Fault," it's just that such variable cuisines that depend on fresh authentic ingredients are hard to duplicate well elsewhere. Also, as the Chinese/Italian "molds" of what constitutes these cuisines in the US were being cast, they tended to be directed at the lowest common denominator (cheap filling food) wheras French has always aimed higher. I believe this was all hashed out in the thread comparing French to Chinese a few months ago.

Uh - Mark, what's a region? I'm familiar with towns within a county, but can't quite figure out what a region is. Well, Middletown is a region. Can't point to any real town to speak of. Same with Ocean Township, Tinton Falls, West Long Branch, Rumson, Elberon, Scobeyville Reeveytown, etc. Now Red Bank, there's a town! And Freehold, Long Branch Asbury park...

El Yucateco. I'm looking at a bottle of the green as we speak...

It was actually the "Sauce Tasting Bar" at a "Hotluck" sponsored by the ChileHeads in Red Lion, Pa last year. My current favorite Hotsauce is Hoboken Eddies Mean Green. Roasted jalabenos and spices with a touch of lime. Mmmmmm. Also like siracha, but when it comes to a cayenne style sauce like Tabasco or Crystal, I have to defer to Tapatio. More heat and more flavor than the others, and at 79 cents a bottle is a bargain also...

Certainly not! The recipe is to be used exactly as stated.

First had this at the Oinksterfest pictured on the "Goat" thread, and fell in lust. It has been test driven by tommy this summer and approved... South Carolina Mustard Barbecue Sauce 2/3 cup yellow prepared mustard 1/2 cup white sugar 1/4 cup light brown sugar 1 cup cider vinegar 2 T chili powder (I use guajullo molido and ancho instead) 1 t black pepper 1 t white pepper 1/2 t cayenne pepper (I add crushed red pepper and if I want it even hotter I use fresh ground pequins) 4 drops Tabasco (I use Louisiana style hot sauce and lots of it instead) 1/2 t soy sauce 2 T butter Combine all ingredients except the soy sauce and butter in a saucepan and simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in soy sauce and butter. May be used as a basting sauce for barbecue meat or as a condiment. I also added the juice of 1 lime and spiced it up quite a bit. Experiment and enjoy!

What about Antarctica? They divide it into 9 regions. I guess this means there are 9 separate and unique Antarctician cuisines... "I believe I'll have the Penguin braised in a reduction of melted snow..."

I've eaten at several dozen regions within Monmouth County, NJ... How many points does Chinatown in NYC get?

I've had it BBQd 2 differrent ways. Two in-ground pits dug with a backhoe earlier that day are in the foreground. These are used to cook the goats "Billy" on the spit in the foreground, and "Bob" being cooked Llano style in the covered pit.

I remember Jay Leno tormenting Richard Simmons by taking a Twinkie, inserting the nozzle of a can of whipped cream into the end, and inflarting it like a little cake whipped cream balloon... It's always worthwhile to see Richard Simmons tormented...

Err... I don't think it's meant to be topically applied to the eyebones...

This may be true, but the fact is that the national presidential elections are decided by votes in the Electoral College, which are not bound to follow the popular vote. Never have been. There is no law stating that Electoral College reps have to vote based on the popular votes in their district. This being the case, whenever I hear someone whining that their candidate should have been put in office because they won the popular vote, given the fact that there still is no movement to change the system, I have to reply "And your point is?"

The only thing that consoles me when I realize the American people were totally removed from the election process was the fact that as a result Al Gore did not become president.

Actually I'd have to say that as a Democrat, Clinton managed to assassinate his charater quite effectively.

I'm hoping the Supreme Court does not allow a replacement for Torch, just so I can enjoy a repeat of the spectacle of the Dems screaming, pulling out hair and frothing at the mouth like in 2000. And I'm not a republican, I just like publc spectacles...

The spelling was off by a bit, the name of the place is Mazi. The menu is rather limited but they seem to know what they want to accomplish. I'll try to post a copy of the menu by the end of the week. I had an appetizer of Shrimp with Garlic Sauce and Red Chilis (Could have been spicier, but consider the source...), and an entree of Frango Piri Piri Fire Roasted Half Chicken. This is an eastern Mediterranean dish with North African influences, roasted bone-in chicken with a thick chile pepper and garlic infused sauce that packed a punch with both heat and flavor. Was served with garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed baby carrots. The room is comfortable with lots of windows and lace curtains (Hopefully easily cleaned of the sauce from the shrimp that almost got away), and the waitstaff though young seem earnest and aim to please. Will be back to try some of the other stuff.
