  1. Had lunch there today. Tried the Cuban Luau Sandwich, it was awesome. They have a website now, www.greengoddessnola.com. The Quarter really needed something like this, casual dinning, yet offering quaity innovative food, not cooked by a fry cook. They had a few speicals up as well, including a creole tomato and shrimp salad thing that sounded good. If anyone is in the mood, I work a adjacent to exchange alley and would up for lunch there anytime, just shoot me a pm. ch
  2. Great article Todd. I really liked the ending. BTW, you should get the Picayune to fix your about the author link. ch
  3. Don't worry, I have copies of both. I just figured that they had gone out of print a long time ago. But I see now that Talk About Good I is on its 23rd printng, rather incredible really. ch
  4. The Talk About Good recipe for cheesecake is a mainstay at our house around the holidays. Is it still in print? ch
  5. Harry, sounds like you are a definite candidate for Folse's Encyclopedia of Cajun and Creole Cuisine. ch
  6. You're excited, can I tell how much I am looking forward to another dining option in the upper quarter, or what I like to think of as the wasteland. I am really curious to see what he comes up with, especially because I have a hard time reconciling his plans with the physical limitations of the location. Believe me, I wish him well, for selfish reasons as much as anything. I am like the girl out front of Mervyn's at 6:00 a.m. canting, "Open, open." ch
  7. Sam, when you say overnight fermentation, do you mean leave it on the counter oiled and covered in a bowl. mroybal seemd to indicate that fermentation took place in the fridge. Just wanted to make sure I had it straight. ch
  8. When I think of summer comfort food I think of yogurt, even just as a marinade, feta, cucumbers, anything citrus, bibb lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, arugula, granny smith coleslaw, avocado, cold soups, prosciutto, and of course, anything grilled. I love smoked tomatoes in relish dressings. Good luck, it all sounds good so far. ch
  9. All I can say is wow. I guess sex sells, and they didn't miss a trick. At first I was thinking, geez, talk about cleavage, and that was just the beginning. This one is right there with the Paris Hilton Carl's Jr. ad. Not sure its the best move for her, but I guess if Revlon isn't calling.
  10. Chris DeBarr has officially announced that he will be opening a restaurant at 307 Exchange Alley, to be called The Green Goddess. Currently the space is occupied by Jazz Tacos, and was formerly home to Cake Cafe, Lulu's, and Old Dog, New Trick. It is an absolutley tiny venue, but it does offer al fresco dinning. This is great news for those of us who have to forage in the Upper Quarter. ch
  11. Off hand I can't think of a reason not too. A lot of locals get out of town since good friday is a holiday, and most of the schools are off for spring break. There are probably a number of Easter brunch events as it is a big holiday down here. There isn't a lot open Sunday night to begin with, but if you know where you want to go, call around and check on availability. ch
  12. Thanks for the heads up, I've never heard of this festival, hopefully the paper will do something on it. ch
  13. Turns out I was right the first time, the deli syle lunch thing is not a Mardi Gras only event, just thurs-sat, the menu changes daily and they post it on their website. In other news from Cassibry Square, Antoine's opened a bar in the Hermes room and is serving a few over priced small plates, (three oysters rock: $7.50; crabmeat raviogte. $19.25) although I may have to check out the oyster foch po boy with foie and a colbert sauce (8.00).
  14. I find egullet member Danno's website, nolacuisine.com to be an excellent source of inspiration. He has personal recipes for all the local classics and then some. The website is nicely presented as well. ch
  15. It looks like the K-Paul's deli lunch service is a Mardi Gras only thing, something I didn't immediately grasp.
  16. We got a flyer form K-Pauls at work advancing their new "Deli-Style Lunch Service" menu. Its somewhat limited, but offers several soups, salads, sandwiches, and plate lunches, almost all in the $8-$10 range. To go orders are accepted as well. In other news, a pizzeria called Rotolo's, which is apparently a small Baton Rouge chain, just opened at the corner of Conti and Chartres in the old La Boucherie spot. Doesn't look too exciitng, aside from pizza its typical fare. Sadly, La Boucherie is now a coffee and pastry only spot a few doors down on Chartres. I have passed Iris a few times lately, and it doesn't look like they are getting much of a lunch serivce if any, hope they are doing better for dinner. The build out looks very nice, but for some reason they have cafe curtains covering all the windows, which can't be helping. Aside from a sidewalk sign, the place is all but invisible. Just up the street, Felipe's looks to be doing quite well. A new oyster bar opened at the corner of Royal and St. Louis in the old Tortorici's spot called Royal House. Very classic looking, lots of white tile. Appears they are doing good business. And finally, the new incredibly tacky disco tech, Voila, has opened at the corner of Decatur and Bienville. The only reason I mention it is that they have a NY Strip special on Wednesdays for $5.95, comes with outstanding fries, and the steak was fine as well. If you can stand the decor (read not allergic to the color red), it's a serious bargain. Oh, and Stanley has been open for a while in case you hadn't heard. A bit pricey, to be expected given the location though. Lots of breakfast items on the menu, and homemade ice cream too. Wish they would dump the Boar's Head affiliation though. Charlie
  17. Boy this town really is dead on Sunday. Can't blame people for taking a day off though. ch
  18. Some other Sunday dinner and lunch ideas would include Casamento's and Mandina's, Patois has a nice Sunday brunch. At Jackson and Magazine is Stein's Deli if your in the mood for a reuben. Don't forget, there are two Parades Sunday on St. Charles Ave., and Barkus in the Quarter starting at 2:00. Hope you enjoy your trip. ch
  19. Think about Luke, I brought the kids there recently for lunch and there was something for everyone. (Poulet grand mere was the highlight). Dinner looks a tad less family friendly but see what you think.
  20. All I kept thinking was how these people were going to piss away what appears to be a very substantial family fortune for what appear to be selfish reasons. Any guesses on what they spent to open the new Le Cirque, no way they ever recoup that. My guess is if it closed today, they would all be living on the street. And apparently, it is all riding on Sirio, he goes and its caput. Talk about a gamble. The whole famly should have just moved back to Montecatini, open a tratoria, and clip coupons. Hubris, plain and simple. Times change, deal with it. ch
  21. And the bacon pralines were crazy good. ch
  22. I got the pastrami and a muffaletta to go, which I had the next day. The pastrami was delicious with a pronounced smokiness but not acrid. The sauerkraut was mild and slighlty sweet. Excellent sandwich but could have used a little more meat. The muffaletta was so so the next day. I believe they serve them hot, so I don't think day old and cold would be exemplary. Great chocolate chip cookie as well. Lots to investigate there. Oh, and I really liked the homemade chips. ch
  23. Good to hear. Although Anderson didn't really say how the food was. I would definitely go for it though. And you can take hwy. 190 back to I-10 without losing much time. ch
  24. Anyone heard anything about Joe's Dreyfus in Livonia, its a quick trip and a nice drive up from I-10 along Bayou Grosse Tete. The Catfish Breux Bridge and blueberry pie were both quite memorable my last time there, but I believe it changed hands since then so I don't know. As far as ambience, its hard to beat, old country store converted to a restaurant. ch
  25. I'll be the first to admit that there is planty to not like about Guy Fiori, but you you gotta give the guy some credit for getting where he is. While I can't watch his cooking show, Diner's Drive Ins and whatever is great tv programming. I watch it all the time. Put the guy in a suit and lose the peroxide and he could host the Today show. Turned me on to Surrey's here in town. I like his choices in personal transportation as well. As far as KB, bring it on, and some Maggie sauce too.
