  1. Okay, thanks for the heads up. I need a place where we can get a whole pie for dinner. So where to go next week? I really want to stick to places that are supposed to have New York Style Pizza.
  2. Oh yes Pagliacii's is way better than A New York Pizza Place. Perhaps A New York Pizza Place was better before it changed owners. Has anyone tried Post Alley Pizza? I see they are another NY Style Pizza place. Anyone know if they are open for dinner or is this a downtown lunch only place? I need to figure out where we should go next week. I really do want to find the best NY Style Pizza in Seattle. Yes, I'm determined.
  3. Did you happen to see what date they will open?
  4. Another week another pizza! Thursday night has become official pizza night in our house now! At least for the time being. And now for Friday results: This week we tried A New York Pizza Place. I can summarize this pizza in a word- bland, bland, bland. Okay that was three words but it covers crust, toppings and sauce. This one really lacked flavor. We both thought this was just an okay pizza. Would I go again...probably not. There are other places to go to that do a better job. Toppings: Cheese and other toppings were okay. Again lacked much flavor. Sauce: Well....it was thin. Crust: Thin and fairly consistent in size but again not alot of flavor and it was a tad doughy. Decent chew but lacked good crispness. Now for the pictures: Whole: Slice: Crust:
  5. Every year I spend a lot of time planning and preparing the Thanksgiving feast. The day after, I'll happily eat a sandwich made with leftovers which is always good. The latest issue of Bon Appetit had a few recipes one of which was Stacked Enchiladas with Turkey which looks good and it made me wonder.....what's your favorite recipe or dish that you make with leftovers? I'd love to do something different this year. Care to share? Inspire me! Thanks!
  6. Funny! I actually considered posting it in the pizza thread. It does sound interesting. I plan on giving them a try maybe in a few weeks. If you try them before we do please post your findings.
  7. Oh that is the prettiest Buche de Noel's that I have ever seen! Perfection!
  8. Oh those sound divine! Is one enough or should you order two? Thanks for the tip. I'll have to give them a try. Now I'm craving Gorditos too.
  9. For Neapolitan style pizza! Just saw the article in the paper this morning. Caffe Vita's owner is opening a pizzeria and bar on Capital Hill called Via Tribunali. It is set to open this week. May be worth a try. Here's the articleRead Here
  10. Premade fondant usually comes in white, off white and chocolate. You just take a bit of black food coloring and knead it into the fondant. If you start with a chocolate fondant it will take less black color to achieve black fondant. If you start with white fondant color it brown first and then add your black. You can go from white to black but it takes a lot of black. Another option, Wilton makes precolored fondant (all different shades including black) and you can get that at Michaels craft store if you have one around you. Personally I don't care for the taste of the Wilton premade fondant but for just cutouts this would probably work fine. Hope that helps.
  11. There are several good premade fondants(aka sugarpaste or rolled fondant) on the market if you want to make things easier especially if you are just using it for cutouts and not to cover the entire cake. I like and use Pettinice brand. You should be able to get premade fondant at most cake shops. I haven't made it from scratch yet since I've been really happy with the Pettinice brand.
  12. In addition to the ideas above here are a few more: For simple designs you could do a package cake (made to look like a gift with bow and gift tag). You could also do a polka dot pattern and vary the size and color of the dots although if you are using a cream cheese icing the dots may want to slide. If you have Colette's Cakes there is a really neat fish cake in her book which is actually fairly easy to do if you are comfortable working with fondant. And of course sports balls using any of the shaped pans.
  13. Oh I just remembered--isn't there a tea shop on Queen Anne(The Teacup I think). Maybe you can call them to see if they have what you want, and if not, they would probably know where you can find it.
  14. Cost Plus has several inexpensive teapots although I don't know if they are from China or not. I checked mine and there was no "Made in" stamp soooo who knows....but it works great! I love hot tea. It was a sad day for me a few months ago when my Russell & Hobbs kettle finally died. I just bought a new electric cordless tea kettle and they are great. I have a stash of PG Tips. Hot tea with a touch of milk--perfection on a cold rainy day.
  15. Oh yes these are really good! My favorites are the Maui Sweet Onions and the Salt and Vinegar. YUM!
  16. Sorry to say it was pellets. So next week we will try another place. Wish us luck
  17. This week we tried Hot Mama’s Pizza. Again a good pizza but still not like the pizza we had in NYC. We both actually thought this pizza overall was better than Piecora’s and closer to the pizza we had in NYC. Close enough to satisfy cravings...not quite. Cheese & Topping: Overall good. But the big difference between this and NYC was the cheese. Cheese on this pie seemed to lack the punch of flavor that the one in NYC did and it was a little oily. Sauce: Good. Nice and thin. A little heavier on herbs compared to NYC. Crust: Okay we are getting closer. Much thinner. Good chew but needed some char and crispness. I'd like to see how the crust was if we got it there and it didn't have to travel home in the box--might make a bit of difference. The flavor of the crust was so much better than Piecora’s. So that’s the scoop! Still no where near the slice(s) of heaven we had in NYC so the quest continues! Here are the pictures: Whole Slice Crust Thanks for the other suggestions. I am on a mission so I'll continue to try other places and post our findings.

    Pancake Mix

I agree this mix is really good. Although, if you can go there to eat breakfast that's even better! Good food and a beautiful view! Better yet, spend the night in one of their fabulous rooms and then have breakfast!
  19. Hmmmm that's interesting news about New York Pizza Place. We plan on getting the next pizza this Thursday night so I'll post pic's and finding on Friday.
  20. WOW! That chocolate rose is fabulous! Very striking.
  21. One of my favorites dishes is Rigatoni with a Pumpkin Bacon Sauce. Last year I made pumpkin soup and it was really good as well.
  22. Yep I agree entirely--the crust at Piecora's was too thick. UGH! A few more places to try and then perhaps I will just resign myself to satisfying my craving when I travel to NYC. Although, that will be a few years. For those that are interested I will post my pictures and impressions over the next few weeks.
  23. Hmmmm well it looks like that specific recipe is a long kept secret. Perhaps someone has something similiar? I did find the website where you can order more for what that helps http://www.grasmeregingerbread.co.uk/ The website goes into the history of this gingerbread and lot's of other info including recipes you can make with it. How is it different or better than other gingerbreads you have eaten?
  24. Oh yeah, I've heard of that place Really Nice! I'll keep you guys posted on my quest although I'm not very optimistic that I'll find anything close to what we had in NYC. Sigh.
  25. Piecora's Report: Well last night my husband brought home a large Piecora's pizza with pepperoni. The spell was fabulous and overall I'd say it was pretty good. NOT the same as the pizza we had in NY but still nonetheless good. Cheese and Toppings: Cheese had a good flavor to it. And the pepperoni was nice and crisp on the edges Sauce: Nice and thin and flavor was pretty good. Crust: The main problem was the crust. It was too thick and airy towards the edges. The inner 1/3 of the pizza was great but then the crust just got too thick. Also, it lacked some of the flavor of the one we had in NYC. Here's a picture of the whole pie Here's a picture of the slice And finally the bottom crust So I'd eat there again but my quest continues. Next week we will try either Hot Mama's or New York Pizza Place and will give you my thoughts and photo's if you like. This was my first photo posting so hopefully it worked.
