  1. They have an in-house Mr. Creepy Pants????
  2. If you're asking for help with the feeding frenzy, I will be happy to assist! Congrats on the publication date, whenever it is.
  3. I'm so...maybe maybe maybe! I'm the worst, I know. Vertical, huh? Lemme chime in a little closer to the day and time and come up with a theme.

What's an inch or two between friends?
  5. Me, too, for cheese.

    Le Veau d'Or

What makes the menu so dreamy, Mighty W?
  7. Herb: thyme Spice: smoky Spanish paprika

    dirt cheap wines

We were there in Washington and D. loved the cheese. But we saw that Bar Demi had some Capricious at a recent tasting and were wondering if there were any leftovers...

    dirt cheap wines

If the kind folks at Bar Demi still have some of that award-winning Capricious cheese, I'll bet they could persuade even a few more Egulleteers to attend...
  10. If they were factoring in the purchasing of olive oil, did they also have to factor in the price of an oven?
  11. Hmm. The Food Lover's Companion states: "french, to: 1. To cut a vegetable or meat lengthwise into very thin strips. Beans and potatoes are two vegetables that are commonly "frenched". 2. To cut the meat away from the end of a rib or chop, so that part of the bone is exposed."
  12. I've found Mario's recipes - on the website and in his book, which are usually identical - to be spot on: his numbers are tight. We regularly make his pasta, gnocchi, osso buco, and whole red snapper dishes. There's very few cook books that I have that have recipes as accurate as Mario's.
  13. Simon, you'll be pleased to know Sir Anthony says you look like "a scrawy footballer".
  14. And lo, another signature is born.

    Dinner! 2002

I applaud the Crozier Blue, as I prefer it to Cashel, but any blue will do in a pinch. Tonight: lamb shoulder ragu with gnocchi. I should get to do the fork-flicking part.
  16. 2 mentions of Lagos in the top 100!
  17. Does he handle signature duties as well?

    Cranberry beans

Also called shell beans or shellouts. Good source of protein, fair amount of A and C, for those playing along at home.
  19. I've got the list in front of me, Hollywood, and I swear there's no French Laundry. So...no, I have no idea what she's talking about! (And I don't watch "friends" - just synchronicity, I guess)
  20. Where's my Egullet Gold Star?

  22. So they're making the brave decisions that need to be made, going out there and finding restaurants we readers haven't thought of.
  23. I'm awaiting my copy but sit here ready to be shocked and stunned yet again. Will put my pre-opinions away for the moment. Thanks for the tip, Wilfrid.

    Dinner! 2002

Brined and seared pork loin served on a stack of bi-color tomatoes. Garnished with slices of jalapeno and apple; a kind of honey-horseradish dipping sauce.
  25. Bugs me when I've ordered a cocktail to start with and the waiter wants to take away the wine list. I have to grip it tightly, and tell them I'm going to be ordering wine. Is it an assumption that women don't order wine?
