  1. Prune paczki cravings? Sounds good to me, Danielle! Big hug to Dylan, big sis in waiting I don't know why, but lately most delicious for me have been on the sweet side. (I should get out more ) These are some Dutch ananas taartjes that my neighbor made and brought over on my return. They're little buttery, tender melt-in-your-mouth shortbread cookies filled with spiced pineapple jam.
  2. Mukki, I think that's a very good and easy pancake recipe, have you tried it using buttermilk? Real comfort breakfast fare! This was a special request from my husband: Roti paratha fried in french butter together with an egg on top. Thanks again, Ling, for that scallion pancake recipe!
  3. Oooh, my mother used to get these all the time when we were little. They had other fillings, too - red & black beans. Flaky pastry with a red characters stamped on the top. I tried "Googling" for a recipe but couldn't find one, does anyone have a good recipe?
  4. And, she's considering taking a road trip to CTPA to scout out some party favors and a cheongsam. I wonder if she needs assistance/escort/guide, etc. from a local eGulleteer.
  5. That sounds like lots of fun! There's no time limit at Mark's, is there, Gastro?
  6. Please forgive me, I know I don't belong here, but I just have to say that Gastro's woon jai goh and gai loong look amazing. I suppose there's no such thing as an honorary Toisanese?
  7. OK, back OT : Gastro, what does the menu look like? Going traditional or non? What party favors are you giving out? What time is it again, can I come? Oh shoot, I can't huh
  8. Wanna sign up, Pan? eGood food, eGood company!
  9. Heheh, Ben - I love this!!! Herb, please accept my sincere apologies. (I still think you're cute). Perhaps this one is better. Gastro, please be patient, all good things come to those who wait. (It's the last photo, after all those pizza shots ) Ahem, Gastro -- do like Uncle Ben says.
  10. Hope you're in better spirits soon, peppyre Right now, I'm munching on some dates handschlepped by a friend who recently made the pilgrimage to Mecca. Delightfully delicious accompanied by a nice hot cuppa tea.
  11. oooh, you do tease, don't you? I've come across the green and golden ones, but not the ruby kiwis. They must be gorgeous!
  12. Heheh, it looks like we have new candidates for team blogging! Welcome to eG, dUbVADER!
  13. What a wonderful feast, Tepee! Wishing you prosperity, success and good fortune in the New Year and always. Happy New Year 4703! Gong Xi Fa Cai lots of angpao?
  14. I'm still new to fruit and meat pairings, but a take-off from the prosciutto and melon, these smoked salmon wrapped cantaloupe melon balls were quite tasty and a great success.
  15. David, more for the rest of them! The best salak we get here are from Bali, they're little and not as tart. Beware though, I've heard that they have certain medicinal qualities, so if one is besieged with Montezuma's, er, Mahathir's revenge, it'll cure what ails ya. I've posted this elsethread, but do you have these rose apples (jambu mawar) in Malaysia? I fell in love with how fragrant and sweet they are. These came off my mom's tree, and we'll have to wait another 3 weeks or so for more fruit. gingerly, we have them here in Indonesia, too!

    Exquisite, Susan
  17. Most respected Dejah, If I'm not mistaken trassi/terasi/belacan is similar to haum ha. We had a little discussion about it in your Bi-racial Partnerships thread. Trassi is the crumbly brown stuff:

Fabulous looking dinners everyone! Judith, your roast has mesmerized me! Lovely that. CindyG111, welcome to the Dinner! thread, Your dinner looks awesome. Ciao, calimero - outstanding was always! I sorta had a breakfast/dinner: Sunny-side up egg sprinkled with Soul Food seasoning, sage-y chicken sausage (so good) and rice.
  21. My late beloved uncle (my father's twin) used to love neen goh, battered and fried, this afternoon I have done so in his honor. Nice crispy exterior, ooey gooey within. For you, Uncle Double-J

  25. Many moons ago, at the China Inn Restaurant in CTDC, after a meal we used to get these hard, little cylindrical shaped, coconut flavored caramel candies. Those were good, too. Haven't seen them for decades.
