  1. That Salawak guy is vellllly funny! The second pic is of mini cakwe doused in rujak/rojak sauce. Had the elements of hot, sweet, sour & peanutty richness. Velly delicious.
  2. I've been wracking my brain over Janet's kueh, still can't imagine what it is. Oh, the mystery of it all! Anyway, here's what my husband brought home for dessert tonight. Plain & pandan egg surabi.
  3. Heeeheee, Canadian sweets! Somehow I don't think Noah and this would withstand the trans-Pacific journey!
  4. Hi Joie, can you get some in Vancouver? If not, I'd love to send you some.
  5. Heheh, perhaps I've got a massive dose of sugar buzz from all this candy.
  6. Thank you so much for the pics, kew, yeah those look like the coconut candy I used to love getting at our family's favorite chinese restaurant in Chinatown DC called the China Inn - now just a fond memory. The owner Bill Yee just couldn't pronounce my name so he always called me Betty. Yetty Betty Spaghetttti. Play the name game with that!
  7. Oh wait, I just realized that we're talking about Malaysia (smacks self upside da head!) - oh well
  8. Please let me main too lah Lontong Laksa - a very sorry eh version. But it was steaming hot and I was hungry last night.
  9. Are y'all talking about this stuff?
  10. Thanks again for this thread, guppymo. I saw whole stingray at the fish counter last night. Previously I've only had it bbq'd with chili paste on banana leaves in Singapore, but your soup really looks good. Another request for a recipe, please
  11. I thought of chili also!
  12. Yummm, actually the taste combination sounds quite appealing to me.
  13. FaustianBargain, thanks for reviving this thread. Fun game, isn't it? Hmmmm, a tiny hint or clue perhaps?
  14. Hi Suresh, nice to see you . Got a recipe for cherimoya , err, sitaphal kulfi? Would love to try it.
  15. Arne, my secret wish for a Daddy-A blog has finally been granted! Congratulations on your new Weber, this is sure to be a smokin' week!
  16. Oh. My. God. Kew,Tepee & Shiewie!!! Tears of joy are just rolling down my cheeks, I'm so enraptured with this blog! I can relate to most everything here. If I don't get a chance to later, let me thank you now for a most enjoyable virtual trip to Malaysia. I hope to take a real one soon. Chicken floss buns! Just had one yesterday from Bread Talk. Nothing like it for a quick snack while strolling through the mall. Adore them as well as the fire floss - beef floss with a kick!
  17. Oooh, that sounds exciting! I would love to know more about Klay, if you have any more information, I hope you'd pass it on to me. It would be great to have a Vietnamese restaurant nearby -- pho sure!
  18. guppymo, this has easily become one of my favorite threads. I love the photos and engaging conversations developing here. Thanks for the papaya soup recipe upthread and your recommendation to substitute shrimp for pork seems very attractive to me. I absolutely adore Trung Nguyen Coffee, which I bought in the US recently. I even got some of those cute little filters to make caphe sua nong in the mornings. However, my only regret is that I didn't buy more. Thank you for starting this topic. I'm really looking forward to checking in on this thread for more of your wonderful photos & recipes.
  19. Poor David, what was the surprise? Oh I see it's dinner time, I wonder what kew and family had for makan malam.
  20. ^Shiewie, that's brilliant! Actually, I've been having some queasiness and after chomping a few rolls, no more tummy problems. No noticeable increase in appetite, however, they definitely put the sparkle back in my eyes!
  21. Your Putu Piring/Bambu is just plain old putu here (mostly green colored tiny little cylindrical cakes, I have seen some plain white ones, though). Now it's my turn to smack myself on the head! Ouch! You're right - putu mayang/yong is exactly like you said. Now I have to go and find out what those little apams are called here.
  22. kew, there's a Ramly stall right down the street from me with es potong, too! It's on my way to work, but I've never had the urge to try them, and now I will most likely keep just driving by. But the es potong do look good. Hmmmm, on second thought. Yeah, I know -- entirely two different kinds of martabak. By the way, we call those little apam = putu mayang here. Blog on, dear!
  23. Joie, there are several threads and blogs here on eG that are very tempting, but your magnificent photos for this topic have me almost licking my screen. Some beautiful photos of some beautiful sweets by someone most beautiful! Excuse me while I go lay down with a cool towel on my forehead.
  24. Oh. My. God!!! Lorna, you have rendered me almost speechless That is beautiful, I want it!
  25. Yeah, I agree with Michael, you are very funny! That soup looks splendid! How'd you make it?
