  1. i didn't suggest lying. Omitting ingrediets or steps is similar to lying, no? And I definitely am not suggesting that you personally would advocate that.
  2. Which totally makes sense. I do the same thing, especially if there are more than five ingredients. My memory isn't that great after a few drinks! But that isn't the same as putting someone off with a "Sure, later" or changing the subject.
  3. But are you going to be angry longer at someone who was upfront and honest, or someone who made you feel like a chump by being evasive or lying? I might be annoyed at someone who was being honest, but at least I wouldn't feel like an idiot for asking them multiple times thinking that they just forgot, and I would get over the initial disappointment. But if they lie to me or avoid me, I'll be less likely to go back for seconds of that kind of treatment.
  4. Hey Nero, there's one in Chicago too. Newport Bar and Grill which is connected to a laundromat. It's on Southport & Newport. My sister and I used to go to that one! Launder Bar? Was that what it was callled? It had a light board with the numbers for the dryers on it, and if your number was lit, your dryer was done. Very cool!
  5. judging from some of the comments on this thread, that approach wouldn't fly, and you'd end up getting talking about and dissed by that person. And they won't talk about you if you lie to their face or leave out an ingredient? They might talk about you anyway!
  6. We installed new counters/sink over the summer when Corian was having their sale. I do like having a large, deep sink for big pots and the like. It's also nice that it is integrated, especially when cleaning up. I couldn't really find the elbow thing faucet either, but we did end up with one you could turn on with your wrist at least! Plus, it's kind of cool: http://www.chicagofaucet.com/catalog/catal...PR&FamilyID=149 The spout swivels around to where you need it. And I just like the way it looks!
  7. How about just Peeps in general? I can't stomach those things...

    TDG: Oh, Crepe!

I loved going to the Magic Pan when I was a child in Chicago! It is one of my fondest memories. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing (I haven't tried it yet), but this recently cropped up at the Mall of America: http://www.leye.com/restaurants/rest_home.jsp?id=35
  9. We can't even walk if they are out of food. They try to trip us or "heel" and meow profusely (similar to tripping, but they pretty much only do that when we're on the stairs)! There must always be kibble at the bottom of the bowl. EVOO eggs butter flour sugar salt black peppercorns some kind of cheese Mustard Hot sauce frozen veggies canned tuna rice
  10. First off, I'm the curious engineer referenced in the first post . It's not at all like parafilm. If you were to compare them, the cling-n-seal is much thinner, less stretchy, and noticably sticky only on one side. The parafilm kind of molds itself on whereas this stuff adheres. The color is similar though, and it's much closer to parafilm than to regular cling wrap. From what I can gather from the Glad website, it seems like they have a process to apply this adhesive (a food-based one that is found in chewing gum) to the web of material, somehow slightly texturize it and then remove some of the adhesive from the "hills" and leave it in the "valleys." So the fury of the adhesive is only unleashed when the material is pressed on. I think that's why it doesn't work so well the second time around - the adhesive has already been exposed at those points. But I think if you put it back on slightly off of its previous position, you can get some fresh glue to work with. I could be wrong. It's weird wild stuff. Do you think it feels sticky? I guess I think of sticky as in, for example, the mystery sticky spot on the floor that I can only find again with my sock when I come back with a wet paper towel. It does have little bit of stretch to it, so if you give it a little tug, you can usually reseal it again at least once.
  11. I know! It took me a while to find it myself. I kept going to that aisle, whether I needed to or not! But it's weird, because it doesn't feel sticky like a post-it note does when you pull it off the pad. It does feel textured, though. I wonder if they are little bubbles with something that kind of burst when apply pressure? Like the jojoba beads in my facial scrub?
  12. I love this stuff! It works better than we thought it would, but we can't figure out what it actually is. It feels like cross between plastic wrap and parchment (to me, anyway!), but how does it stick to the bowl and not my hand? Or everything else for that matter. We went to the Glad ® Press 'n Seal Wrap website, and all I got was a new word: Griptex™. Does any one any ideas? I live with an engineer; he's dying to know the mystery of the Press 'n Seal!
  13. I crave this once in a while too! My mom used to make it for us as a "treat" for breakfast on the weekends. Mmmmm, corned beef hash rounds...
  14. I did that after I bandaged my finger!
  15. Not to be a tattle-tale, but one night, John Braise made me a nice cocktail with rum and chicken stock! Both the chicken stock and the juice were in those containers that stock comes in now (i.e. not the cans). It took me a couple of sips to figure out WHY it was so salty! It didn't taste so hot...
  16. They were discussing Opera Cake on the Splendid Table over the weekend. http://www.splendidtable.org/recipes/dessert_opera.shtml It sounded absolutely dreamy! I definitely want to try the recipe sometime soon!
  17. Magazines, especially if the cover recipe looks really tasty! Mints And last month I bought some invisible cards - a clear deck of cards. I couldn't stop my hand from reaching for them!
  18. It is worth seeking out the Cachaca, though. That is some might tasty stuff!
  19. Go to Costco or a large drug store. I live in Minnesota. Is there any thing bigger than Target? I don't know where there is a Costco here. Maybe Home Depot?
  20. Better late than never, I hope! Swifter Dusters. I LOVE these things! You can dust a whole room with one, and the dust just clings to it. And works pretty well. I wish I could find just refills instead of buying just five and a new handle. I don't need the new handle...
  21. ... be greedy and try to get that last bit of cheese off of the rind with a freshly sharpened knife. I was too embarrassed to explain that one to anybody!
  22. What about the "Seniors' Menu"? Does that count?

    Dips/spreads

I made a quick dip one night with kalamata olives, garlic, fresh chili pepper, parsley, 1 anchovy fillet, red wine vinager and olive oil. You just chop up everything as fine or chunky as you want it (the chili and the anchovy I made pretty fine, but everything else was pretty chunky), leave it sitting on the counter for a couple of hours, and there you go! I put it over fish one night, but we kept the leftovers in the fridge and just let it come to room temperature to put it over toasted french bread slices or anything you want.
  24. I have to agree with the aloe. If it isn't too bad a burn, of course. I had a giant plant that came out of no where! I thought it was just going to be one of those little ones that spread all over the pot, but this one ended up being monstrous. But it somehow spawned some little spreading ones a few years later, so to give them a chance, I harvested the leaves (seriously, they were almost as long as my arm!), and now just keep them in a jar in the kitchen, not too far from the stove. It's nice to just reach over an break off a piece.
  25. I had one of those, too! It quickly became a small trivet.
