  1. Has anyone tried the Wandering Willie? (scroll down)
  2. Mmmm...corn dogs. More places should offer them.
  3. Since meeting Chef Vinod, I have been encouraged to try new things at Indique. My favorite dish of late is the oothapam. Indique's online menu describes it thusly: Mini Oothapam $5 A mini savory pancake made with ground lentils and rice with your choice of spiced toppings, vegetable/chicken, served with assorted chutneys So darn good. We had the chicken version and it might supplant the deconstructed samosa as our go-to appetizer. Rocks, Chef Vinod said he heard you visited recently and was very disappointed to have missed you.
  4. That's how I felt yesterday walking through the dining room yesterday: solo, in boots with heels that are too high, slipping on the tile multiple times. The dining room was full of men (note to the single ladies: there were more than a few attractive ones). I felt younger than I am and blushed twice. Question: is it always do-it-yourself, honor-system change making at the Grill?
  5. It has happened, there is a room at the back of the restaurant available. ← That's where I sat yesterday, all by my lonesome. Not another soul there (again, I did show up around 1:30). It was a little uncomfortable...other than the fact that no one was there, they also didn't have napkins, salt & pepper, what have you. I felt like I wasn't really supposed to be there so when a staff member snuck up on me and asked if everything was ok, I nearly jumped out of my skin!
  6. OpenTable.com wasn't much help in this case. It listed these restaurants as taking reservations: Fahrenheit (tho' Tom says it has improved) Juniper Foggy Bottom La Miche Bethesda Michel Richard Citronelle (yes!) Morrison House - The Grille Alexandria Paolo's Ristorante - Georgetown Sotto Sopra - ??
  7. I went. I liked it, but because of my timing (late), I didn't love the whole experience. They were pretty much closing up shop by the time I got there. More details later. Still working...
  8. That's not hard to do. Check him out on the cover of Women's Day magazine.
  9. Wow, that's cool. I have two appointments with a lull in between and Galileo is perfectly situated between the two.
  10. I assume the Grill is no more now that it's 11/30...right?
  11. Anyone been here lately? Faux Veg just suggested it (I think she wants pizza, as well as to try a new place). I'm less than excited.
  12. I was there last night. Didn't eat though, just drank (thanks, Jeff).
  13. How about vegetable beef barley? Does anyone have a good recipe?
  14. The "Social Safeway" (in upper Georgetown/Burleith) is offering a coupon for a free Grande Starbucks beverage with every grocery order of more than $50. Although the coupon language encourages you to use the coupon at the in-store Starbucks, the fine print states that one can use it at "participating" Starbucks. I tried my luck at the Glover Park Starbucks today and the coupon was accepted. Signed, If it's free, it's for me, in DC
  15. If ever a topic needed to be revised...this is the one. Even after reading all five pages, I'm still a lousy bacon maker. When using a frying pan, should I put the bacon in once it's hot? When it's cold? Cook on low? Medium? Help, por favor.
  16. Wowie-zowie! I love this blog [except for how inept it makes me feel]. I can't wait for photos of the big event. Hi to Sam's Mom.
  17. I'm heading to Northeastern PA to see my parents. For the past few years we have spent the holiday with their best friends (who are like an aunt and uncle to me), and the day after with assorted family members who don't want to travel on the Thursday of. There's family drama this year (my cousin's sociopath husband landed in jail last week for reasons that include grand larceny and a high-speed police chase) so I am expecting my relatives to make themselves scarce. Anyway...My mother makes the bird and the stuffing (best, best part of the day). My aunt makes most of the rest. Some of the stuff will be good, the rest will be just OK, but there's good company and they don't mind if I fall asleep on the couch or act grumpy because my boyfriend has been out of town for almost three months on a trial and his return date continues to be uncertain.
  18. I haven't been to Heartbeat recently, however based on that long-ago visit, I'd say "skip it."
  19. Atmosphere or not, I'd feel awfully silly paying $6 for a bowl of oatmeal!!
  20. Nope, it's not 100% up to date. I ate there on Sunday night and had the new pork [butt] ragout with polenta. My friend had rissotto, but it's not the tomato one as described online. The lamb minute steak and rib-eye diablo are still on the menu. There's also now a trout dish.
  21. I've never been so fill me in: what do you dislike about it? Does Blackie's have any fans here?
  22. Good question. I signed up ages ago, probably at Jaleo.com however I just looked and couldn't find the proper link.
