  1. The bar in the Westin Copley Plaza is pleasant. Bruce
  2. Is that cost in Canadian? Bruce
  3. Stand up noodles. Hot, quick, and tasty. You can't go wrong. Japan is filled with quick-meal restaurants. Ask you coworkers. They'll know. Bruce
  4. There's a bunch of Congresscritters, but they're generally not noteworthy. Bruce
  5. All the best restaurant reviews mention the "Weenie Woman." Bruce
  6. Thanks for the review. I'll be going in a few weeks. Bruce
  7. Interesting. I've gone to the restaurant for lunch a few times, but I always have more interesting dinner plans. Bruce

Quick! To the patent office. Bruce
  9. I applaud this attitude, but there are people with health problems for whom it will not work. I'm not saying that you have to cater to them, but recognize that they do exist. Bruce
  10. I agree with everything you say. Every business has its risks and costs. Every business has a series of things it needs to do to keep customers. This is one of them. Bruce
  11. "Anyone baked with Splenda?" I'd be scared to. Bruce

    The Wine Clip

I love this. Quack medicine applied to wine. Why didn't I think of it??? Bruce
  13. This has been suggested earlier. My opinion is that it's one of the costs of doing business, like the cost of someone eating more bread than his share--or accidentally making a mess. If you're not willing to split the check among a group of diners, post that fact prominently at the door. My guess is that the extra transaction fees will be more than worth the extra business. But that's me; maybe people like dining at a only-one-diner-pays restaurant. Bruce

Holy shit. I might move to DC and start a restaurant just to get a piece of that. I would, too. Bruce
  15. The pairings were okay. Not great, but okay. Unless I am dining with at least four, I generally opt for the pairings. I'd rather have less of more different wines than a half bottle of one wine that only went with one of the courses. B
  16. Someday I'll move there for a year. Bruce
  17. It's a huge success everywhere in the U.S. Olive Garden is a huge success. People want easy and cheap; food quality is secondary. Bruce
  18. I should explain that this was nigiri sushi: a piece of tempura fried unagi on a cube of rice. Bruce

    Winebuys.com

The trick to these sites is to buy wines that few know about: Germans, Austrians, Loire French, Spanish. I've gotten some really good deals because everyone else was looking for 47 Petrus. Bruce
  20. for clarification, did you mistype? Oops. Yes. The first was unreasonable, the second was reasonable. Thanks. I will edit. Bruce

    Leftover Lobster

Some months ago I made a snail quiche with leftovers. Wow, was it good. Bruce
  22. This feels like a red herring to me. I don't think anyone is saying that paying is more important than the food. I think people are saying that the food is important, but that paying is a necessary (and acceptable) part of the experience. I also don't think people are saying that the waitstaff is expected to be anyone's bookkeeper. I think saying: "Figure out who ordered what, and charge everyone's credit card appropriately" is unreasonable. I think saying: "Charge $40 to each of these three credit cards, please is perfectly reasonable. Bruce
  23. At Shiro's Sushi in Seattle, a couple of weeks ago, I was served fried unagi sushi. First time I had ever seen fried sushi. Maybe it is a trend. Bruce
  24. It's part of the Silicon Valley bargain. They do the work of two ordinary employees, and we feed them. Bruce
