  1. So I am back in Bermuda for the next couple of weeks, with my family. We've rented a big old house and so will be cooking more than eating out, but I'll share my restaurant experiences here again. Yesterday we went to Breezes at Cambridge Beaches, a casual beachside restaurant that is a two minute walk from the house we are staying at this week. Drinks. Left to right, a Pims No. 1, a Kamikaze, a Mai Tai, and a Dark and Stormy. My nephew with the shellfish allergy chose a club sandwich Most people got a fish sandwich on raisin bread with mango chutney and slaw. My brother in law chose a fish wrap And my brother chose the pan seared snapper. The teens got dessert, a brownie with ice cream and a coconut-passionfruit panna cotta Sunset from the beach at the house
  2. I have heard good things about Marcus, but have not been. Barracuda is good, right in Hamilton. If you like Indian food there's a really good one in Hamltion...I'll try to think of the name. Mickey's for beachfront dining. Art Mel's Spicy Dicey for fish sandwiches. Miles Market for gourmet beach snacks and wine for the room.

    Dinner 2018

Last night, a fast dinner after an all day meeting followed by a delayed train home...quick broth doctored up with spices with cooked noodles from the fridge, a bag of frozen mixed "stir fry" vegetables, lots of herbs and some quick seared sole. 10 minute dinner that was easy and satisfying after a trying day

  6. It's a complicated situation. Wellfleet is very much not a city. It's a town of 4,000 year-round residents. I don't know what their summer totals are. A lot of the town is National Park land. The road that the Beachcomber is on (Ocean Drive) is fronted on the beach side by private homes and the Beachcomber, and the back side, for quite a ways back, is National Park land. The dunes on this road are subject to severe erosion during winter storms. Most property owners have already paid to move their homes back as close to the road as you can go. Some homes have fallen down the dune during bad winter storms. The Beachcomber is located in a former Coast Guard lifesaving station, and is far back enough that it is not in danger of falling down the dune. So, what the town wants, and the National Park has apparently agreed to, is a land swap. The NP would take over the beaches and the dunes, and the road. Homeowners would be moved back into the National Park land (at their expense...I think). The road would be closed to vehicular traffic, and access to the beaches via dunes would end naturally which would aid in the preservation of this natural area. You need 100% buy in for a land swap and the Beachcomber is opposing it. And that's the coconut telegraph, as I have been told, anyway 🙂
  7. More time out in Wellfleet. We are not out there on the 4th of July for the fist time in many years and I am grumpy about it. Here's a couple of recent meals. The Bookstore at Wellfleet harbor. Drinks Mussels Baked stuffed lobster The Beachcomber, for the last time ever. The town doubled the parking fee from $20 to $40, and since there are seven of us we had to take two cars. $80 before ever stepping inside the restaurant! Oh well, it was good while it lasted. Burger Fish sandwich Steamers. Oyster po'boy Here's the dune you have to climb up to get back to the parking lot. That's my niece and nephew heading up, and my brother skulking at the top 🙂 My husband was craving a burger so we went to Local 186 in Provincetown. Drinks Seveche Burger with egg Chicken poutine. This was mine. I've never had poutine before and don't think I'd order it again. I did not like the gravy on the fries. Too mushy. Burger with fried avocado Another day, Mac's Shack Oysters Ritz cracker bluefish My nephew ordered the Impossible Burger. I asked to try it since I have not eaten red meat for over 30 years and this burger supposedly tastes like red meat. It was...weird. It did not taste like red meat but it has a definite meaty flavor to it. It's also very salty. Fish tacos Fish and chips Salmon hand roll Striped bass Tomato salad with burrata Big kahuna tuna roll Watching the sunset from the bridge by our rental house

I have never had walleye. I love fish. What is it similar to? I am assuming it's freshwater? What's the creamy stuff on the right part of the bagel? It looks like a delicious sandwich. Some recent meals. My family likes to eat caprese sandwiches before going to a rock concert. I forget how the tradition started but it's been going on since I was 20. Two nights of concerts, two nights of caprese sandwiches Too tired to cook after two nights of concerts...burger night (salmon burger for me, beef for everyone else) Sunday extended family dinner. Giant salad Grilled flatbread chicken shawarma

My husband and I got very sick from fiddleheads some years ago. I suspect I prepared them incorrectly. Now when they are available in local markets there's always a sign next to them saying to boil for ten minutes and then drain, rinse, and saute them for another period of time. I have not been brave enough to try them again. They do taste very good. The other night, veggie burgers and oven fries Last night, tacos

  15. Hahaha nope. I am a normal weight for my height and age. In an ideal world I would weigh what I did when I got married, but nobody's perfect. Perhaps I should have specified that it's not just me and my husband eating, our group has included up to seven people or as few as three, depending on the day. I typically eat 1/3 to 1/2 of my meal and then bring the rest home for someone to eat later--usually my husband or his brother. We also only eat one full meal a day while on vacation. Last night though, it was just me with my husband at Ceraldi. This is a very special restaurant for us. When you make your reservation they ask if you have any dietary preferences or allergies, and then the chef cooks the same meal for everyone in the restaurant, with modifications to accommodate everyone's preferences. I always ask for a pescatarian meal. I'm not strictly pescatarian but there's a lot of meats that I dislike. My husband has no restrictions. The meal is seven courses with optional wine, reserve wine, or soft beverage pairing. My husband and I did the reserve wine pairing since we were celebrating. They start everyone with a half glass of rose champagne while the chef explains the menu for the evening First course, Lucky Lips Loagy Bay oyster with wild seabed and spruce, preserved lemon. Paired with NV J-M Seleque Champagne Brut Nature Cuvee Solessence Second course, wild nettle rye bread crostino, Hillside Farm chicken liver mousse, pickled onion, Flora Chella flower, pink pepper, Halcyon Farm arugula. Paired with 2016 Francois Le Sant Sancerre Silex Rose The chef made my crostino topped with a nettle mousse Third course, Longnook Meadow Farm panisse, Surrey Farm radish, Great Hill blue buttermilk, Hillside Farm pancetta. Paired with 2013 Agricola Querciabella Batar IGT. My salad had the pancetta omitted. Fourth course, salt fish croquette (the fish was halibut) In the Weeds daisy greens, bagna cauda, In the Weeds chive blossoms. Paired with 2012 Chateau de Beru Chablis 'Clos Beru' Fifth course, spaghetti al barolo, MVM shiitake, Parmigiana Reggiano, garden sage. Paired with 2012 Proprieta Sperino Lessona Sixth course, Seawind Meadow Farm osso bucco, wild cedar and bay, fermented maple sap, turmeric risotto, garden gremolata. Paired with 2013 Allegrini Amarone Classico DOC For me, the chef offered the risotto with kohlrabi prepared in the style of scallops Final course, Snowy Owl coffee husk cookie, Chequessette Chocolate semi fredo, nibs and pistachio, paired with Pio Cesare Barolo Chianti Ricetta Exclusiva della Premiata Casa Vinicola I was struggling with fullness by the time we got to the risotto course and could only manage a bite of the dessert, but we took the rest of it home and my husband ate some for breakfast this morning haha! Everything was delicious. The oyster, the barolo pasta, and the salt fish fritters were my favorites of the seven courses. I hope to be able to go back for our 22nd anniversary next year :-)
