    Dinner 2020

Yesterday I baked up a couple of loaves of focaccia and made sandwiches. Caprese for the adults, and prosciutto, gruyere, and fig jam for the teens.

    Dinner 2020

My nephew granted me a (small) bite, and it was indeed really good. Our last dinner for this trip. Had to be a sushi repeat. We are headed home tomorrow for the month of August to take advantage of my small garden and central AC, but my husband and I are coming back for an entire month in September into October. One advantage of working remote during this pandemic...

    Dinner 2020

Last night was the "once per visit" fried seafood fest. Fried whole belly clams, oysters, calamari and scallops. Nephew cannot have the fried food so he opted for some ribs And my stomach was not liking the idea of fried food so I got a salad I took my niece and nephew to the bakery yesterday for some housemade soft serve ice cream, with caramel sauce and caramel crunchies. Eaten in the car of course Bonus picture, last night's sunset from the beach in front of the house

    Dinner 2020

Cool. That looks like it might be a house in The Colony. I will keep an eye out for it as a have a small collection of books about Cape Cod. I wish I could go to the bookstore, but am not comfortable enough to spend a long time inside browsing yet. Maybe when we are back in September and October. Last night, cucumber margaritas and nicoise salad.

    Dinner 2020

I found the recipe in the current issue of Cook's Country magazine. I don't have it with me on the Cape, but can paraphrase it when I am home. Not mine! It was for the first family owners of this house some years ago. The original owner was the "Banana King" aka the founder of the United Fruit Company. The couple the plates were made for are deceased now and the house is in a trust operated by their grandchildren. They cannot sell the house or it reverts to the town. It's a pretty interesting story.

    Dinner 2020

I baked a couple of loves of focaccia and brought them down to the Cape with me. I did not feel like going to the fish market yesterday, so made them into caprese sandwiches. Watermelon margaritas to start. The heat index was 102 yesterday, but we have a good breeze at the house.

    Dinner 2020

Grilled ribeye. Not pictured, mac and cheese, summer squash, big salad. Headed back to the Cape in a few hours, so lots of seafood in my future.

    Dinner 2020

Friday night thin crust pizza. Pepperoni Mushroom Margharita Carbonara
  13. I love daikon and carrot pickle on banh mi. I usually have a jar going in the fridge. The thing behind the CSA veggies is my countertop compost container. I subscribe to a service that picks up weekly. I have five gallon buckets stored in the garage, and dump the metal tin into them after dinner every night. It's a really good service: they swap out the full buckets for clean empty ones, and they take almost everything, even meats, bones, shells, oils, and paper towels (as long as they only have food on them). They will also deliver free compost to you if you want it. It has really cut down on the amount of trash I put out for the landfill.
  14. My CSA is really starting to ramp up. Here is today’s box. Fresh garlic, cherries, summer carrots, green head lettuce, hakurei turnips, summer squash, cucumbers, cilantro, summer cabbage, braising greens, kale and hot wax peppers

    Breakfast 2020!

Yesterday, another BLT This morning, all the recent talk of tater tots made me add hash brown patties to my last delivery. I crisped one up in a waffle iron and topped it with a poached egg with a little aleppo pepper.

    Dinner 2020

I found the recipe in the current issue of Cook's Country magazine. To paraphrase: Trim three zucchini and cut them in half lengthwise. Sear for three minutes a side in some olive oil. Cut into pieces. Make a dressing from a minced shallot, juice of half a lemon, a clove of garlic, 1 tsp. fresh thyme, a good pinch of red pepper flakes, salt to taste, and 1/4 cup olive oil. Pour this over the zucchini and marinate it at room temperature for an hour. Top with shaved parmesan cheese. I have five more weeks booked in Wellfleet this summer (we cancelled all of our flight based vacations for 2020) and promise to eat enough littleneck clams for both of us 🙂 Last night, chicken shawarma

    Dinner 2020

This was the first time I made a sonker. It is a recipe from America's Test Kitchen. It does not bother me to cook multiple things. There are things I won't eat too, plus my sister assists with prep and clean up (she would cook the full dinners but I like to do it and it is my house 🙂 ). My nephew is starting to learn to cook as well. His dorm (assuming they can actually go back) will have a kitchen in the fall, and he wants to be able to make most of his meals. Today he is learning how to make chicken shawarma, and later this week he is learning how to make naan. Marinated zucchini salad Steamed littlenecks that we brought back from the Cape I made key lime bars for the teens for dessert

    Dinner 2020

This restaurant makes its own pasta, and it is very good. That said, it did suffer a bit texture wise from being takeout. I am a little sick of takeout to be honest. We are heading home today for a week or so. I miss my bed and my kitchen 🙂 I cooked last night. Of course, a million different things since no one can agree on what they want to eat 🙄 For my nephew, a sausage and pepper sub For my sister, a cold lobster roll For me, a scallop roll For my husband and his brother, a duo of warm brown butter lobster rolls (Eventide recipe) My niece had takeout sushi. And for dessert, I made a strawberry sonker

    Dinner 2020

I lost track of time yesterday and forgot to go to the fish market until after it was closed, so we ended up doing takeout. We shared a couple of appetizers. Polenta fritter with slow roasted tomato and burrata Lobster flatbread Nephew and I both had the tomato pasta Husband ordered halibut which came with pea stuffed tortellini Sister had squid pasta, which unfortunately was too salty Husband's brother ordered swordfish pasta Niece did not want anything from the menu so I cooked her an omelet and made a salad (no picture)
