  1. Here is today’s vegetable share. The bag is pea shoots. I am getting overrun with potatoes! Pierogis are on the menu on Friday so that should help a bit. i do not know what kind of beans they gave me. Can anyone ID them for me? I do not really cook with dried beans other than the black and cannellini varieties.
  2. Yesterday I searched for kosher salt on Amazon pantry and they suggested Spam as an alternative. I got a delivery from a local farm yesterday. They have a store that sells both things they grow (which right now is basically only greens and herbs), and vegetables brought in from elsewhere. I got everything I asked for except for watermelon radishes, and they only gave me one package of pirogies instead of the two I requested. Conversely, I asked for one hand sanitizer produced by a local distillery as that was the limit, and they gave me two for some reason.

    Dinner 2020

The recipe is from Fine Cooking. Here it is: Lemon rosemary balsamic roast chicken I only made two breasts as neither of us eat much meat. We shared one and did not finish it. Leftover chicken and beef are being made into sandwiches for dinner tonight. Last night, miso salmon with udon noodle soup with scallions, cilantro, and cress. I also had shiitake mushrooms for the soup but added them after the picture as I cooked them separately (niece dislikes mushrooms) and forgot to add them to the adult portions until my sister reminded me.

    Dinner 2020

Oven fried haddock with tartar sauce, oven fries and cabbage. Vegetables are in short supply at my house right now. Luckily I am getting a delivery from a local farm this afternoon.

Thank you! Yes, the vegetables are raw. There was grated onion in them too. I used this recipe: celery root- parsnip latkes We enjoyed them, but all agreed that we would have really enjoyed the two vegetables pureed together with some cream. If I get more parsnips and celery root in my vegetable share, that is how I am going to use them.
  6. Got another grocery delivery last night. Finally received chicken, but no carrots, cornstarch or mint. No bread flour, but they swapped in all purpose flour, which I will use eventually. I'm giving half of it to my mom. Obviously no Clorox wipes or paper towels. I was just happy to get the milk, wine, butter, and eggs that I wanted.

    Breakfast 2020!

It was about six inches long. I think traditionally they are eaten with hummus, but i just ripped off pieces and dipped them in cream cheese. My sister baked biscuits this morning, so I had one buttered with a peppery egg
  10. Yes, on sale. D'Artagan has been running flash sales on various things. I am having difficulty getting any meat in my deliveries from the grocery store, so have resorted to ordering from online purveyors.

    Easter Dinner 2020

A Waygu beef tenderloin roast for my husband, niece and nephew. I was going to make Ina Garten's basil-parmesan sauce to go with it, but I don't have enough basil so am thinking about her béarnaise instead. My sister and I are having a roasted chicken breast marinated in dijon mustard, rosemary, and balsamic. Sides are celery root-parsnip latkes, roasted broccoli, and some kind of potato in case the young adults don't like the latkes. Most people have expressed a preference for mashed, but I am not sure that I will have enough milk to do that.
  13. I got two shipments yesterday. From D'Artagan, 12 poussins and four packages of chicken sausage. There was also supposed to be five packages of bacon, but they forgot to include it 🙁 I also got a big box from Eataly: pasta, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, pesto sauce, and a hunk of parmesean cheese. Maybe a few other things that I am forgetting as everything but the cheese is in quarantine at the moment. The cheese was shrink wrapped in plastic and worth using a Clorox wipe on.

    Dinner 2020

It is very easy. Cook 1.5 cups rice with a cinnamon stick, 4 whole cloves, 10 black peppercorns and 1/2 tsp salt. Toast 1/2 cup chopped nuts in 2 tbsp. butter (I used pistachios). When the rice is cooked, stir in the toasted nuts and butter and 3/4 cup chopped dried fruit of your choice (I used apricots and dates). The original recipe also calls for soaking 20 strands of saffron in 2 tbsp. water and drizzling that over at the end, but my sister dislikes saffron so I left it out.

    Dinner 2020

Tonight's dinner. Most of us had a coconut cauliflower curry with Indian flavored braised cabbage and maharajah rice, with flatbread My nephew won't eat any of that so I made him penne with a wild boar ragu using a package of D'Artagan wild boar sausage I found in the freezer. The sauce made enough for two meals for him. I've been cooking two, sometimes three, different meals for dinner every night because of allergies and food dislikes in my group quarantining together. It's not old yet but I can see it becoming so as this drags on. We've made it a month together without any food battles so that is good, and it is not like I have anything else to do other than pace around the house....

    Breakfast 2020!

Jerusalem bagel unearthed from the freezer. Husband brought them home from the city on the last day he went in to the office before the work from home orders were given.

    Dinner 2020

Salmon cake with amai sauce, salad and rice. The salmon recipe came from the Wagamama cookbook, and none of us loved it. The salmon is mixed with potatoes. I prefer my fish cakes with just fish and herbs I guess. Unfortunately the recipe made enough for two meals so I am going to have to come up with a way to jazz up the remaining six cakes. For now, they are in the freezer.
  18. Here is my second week of vegetable share. A big bag of basil, three huge apples, a celery root, a big turnip. half head of cabbage, a huge sweet potato, more potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, a loaf of bread, and a bottle of maple syrup.
  19. I was finally able to snag another Wegman's delivery slot for Sunday night. I thought the grocery would be closed on Sunday for Easter but I guess not.

  25. I have not been able to get an order to go through from Wegmans or Whole Foods for a couple of weeks. Luckily there is another grocery that I have been able to get deliveries from. I had one scheduled for next Tuesday, but it showed up yesterday! I got everything on my list except for white miso. The only problem with this store is that I do not like their meat or fish options. Their produce and dairy is OK though. Most of what I ordered is going to my parents' house. They have finally stopped shopping in the stores after weeks of nagging.
