if food is the new rock'n'roll, Jamie O. is Elvis
Gifted Gourmet replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Pity that the newer, younger generations who read this, have little, or possibly even, no idea about the "wriggling" and the initial consternation it caused ... As for the relation of toasting one's intimate body parts on the oven door? Why do you suppose that Elvis wrote the song "Hunka Hunka Burning Love"?? -

You think Mom is holding out on you?? -
Last long flight was on Delta (you can stop reading here, I realize!), and one had to purchase their sandwiches for $8 each .. so I asked for the fruit and cheese plate ... also $8 ... the last one she had was given to a girl in my row who had just consumed an entire meal she brought from home ... there is no way I will get on a Delta flight to California and back without taking my own food... ever!! And on my last flight from Washington to Frankfurt, Lufthansa ran out of the regular dinners and we wound up with dried out cheese manicotti ...

Thinly sliced sweet onions on white with Miracle Whip was a childhood favorite ... now I can't touch Miracle Whip!

I was in Prague last November and found a variety of good options for dining, Nathan! Please look over the suggestions in two threads here at eGullet about Prague and the food: Prague discussion (most recent) Prague discussion (from a while back) Lots of great ideas here! Enjoy! One place which I thoroughly enjoyed was ZLATÁ PRAHA (inside the Intercontinental Hotel) .. read the reviews and see how it sounds to you!the menu

Hold on, doesn't this let Varmint off the hook for 2006? and is he actually entitled to a year off for good behavior?
-
But shouldn't it? Happen more often, I mean ... for what some restaurants are charging today, I really expect to be wowed ... at a chain restaurant, I simply expect to be fed, but a really good chef ought to put his/her heart and soul into the meals sent out from the kitchen ...

Owen, I am betting on banana pudding (with okra hidden carefully under each banana) .. okra pie a la mode is something that would require getting used to and it is, after all, only a weekend ... Thanks for the suggestion, Owen, and yes, please do set up an expresso bar for us!

Thank you for the Ludwig information, Rogov! and the recipes ... Truly, he must have been quite the character .. perhaps someone has made a film version of his life? I would have but had promised you a book advance so I am actually "שקל חדש"-impaired at this time ... As for Ludwig's voracious appetites, I rather imagine that he was among many crowned heads who ate in a romantically bizarre fashion which drove their cooks to despair ...

which reminds me of the line some comedian uttered, only partially in jest: "How much Healthy Choice Ice Cream must you eat before it is no longer a healthy choice?"
-
There were other Ludwigs? This is the guy who built the Disneyesque fantasyland castle ... in Neuschwanstein ...or neufchatel or whatevah ....
-
Deal, Rogov! Do you accept Visa without a picture ID?? So, what dish is named for Ludwig of Bavaria?

That sounds good, jackal! And do check out the website for the British Iceberg Lettuce Growers .. although I imagine that American iceberg will also do just as nicely: Iceberg lettuce UK click on recipes for some good looking soups made with this treat ... -

Salads are just the tip of the iceberg

I once remember hearing someone say on NPR that even French cooks liked the fact that iceberg was always so "clean" ... easier to work with and if one needs to sacrifice a bit of (or a lot of) taste, c'est la vie .... -
Me too! 80 proof! Love Wild Turkey ...

The Rabbi ought to know ... so I have cleaned out my pot of gedempte (stuffed) ratatouille raptor stew ... pity .. and it looked so delightful!
-
article from the Times UK I see it in steakhouses, cut in huge wedges, topped with chopped tomatoes, thick masses of bleu cheese dressing ... and in oriental places wrapping a variety of great fillings ... Do you use iceberg? I love it for its pristine, clean qualities ... How do you use it? Is it ever going to make a huge comeback and replace $50 a pound "field greens"??

Aha! I knew there was a catch to this shindig ... Hidden okra, crouching Mayhaw!

You know by now that "travel days" are for us to stoke up on refreshments and prepare for the "battle" ahead for the rest of the games ...
