I'm sure that there are others, but the place on Bloomfield Ave right across the street from Whole Foods is the REAL DEAL! Wish I could remember the name of it...

Actually, to be helpful, there is a decent deli/grocery store in Upper montclair around the area where Park Ave and Watchung Ave intersect. It's actually on Watchung, across the street from a gym and a video store.

Decent sandwiches. Not spectacular, but pretty good.

You may be talking about Il Forno at 199 Bellevue Ave Upper Montclair. However, he is changing the place and I am not sure if he is keeping the gourmet foods. Phone: 973-744-2665.

If there is no answer they are still remodeling and you can call the restaurant which is at 18 S Fullerton Ave, Montclair at 973-233-0800.

There is actually a new deli on park and Watchung, but on Park , It is called Risario's.. It is excellent. Homemade sauage and other goodies. ALso a great sandwich selection and wraps too. Stop by, They also made homemade Mozz..

Do you mean Rosario’s Butcher Shop 252 Park St Upper Montclair? The only thing I have had from there is the escarole and bean soup which was tasteless. Would certainly go back to try other items that they make.

Yes that is the one. I had the Italian wedding soup and it was very yummy.

I have had a couple of sandwiches there and enjoyed them. It is new, guess they need to work out things.

will have to go and try their sausage. He said he will be making chicken sausage soon.

There is a deli by me in Lincoln Park called A&A.. now that is the best Italian deli I have ever been too. There food is amazing! I could find something there 7 days a week. They make sandwiches and he an asortment of precooked food. they even have a whole dessert section, If you have never been you must go by. They are on Main street in Lincoln Park.

Ha I knew this thread was around here somewhere.

I have taken a part-time job as the lunchtime delivery guy for Belgiovine's. (HINT to folks in the Montclair/Bloomfield/Cedar Grove/Verona area: Belgiovine's delivers!)

The deli got a nice Quick Bites writeup in the NY Times a year ago; you can read it right here. I love these lines in particular:

Belgiovine's cheese ravioli is to Whole Foods' cheese ravioli as France's best brie is to Kraft American singles.

The ravioli ($3.75 a dozen) -- traditionally stuffed with a blend of cheeses, black pepper and parsley -- is that good.

We tried their manicotti for dinner last week & it was heavenly.

The writer doesn't touch on the similar excellence of their made-to-order sandwiches & salads & daily hot specials, but to my taste the quality is consistent.

Just by being there, I'm learning a lot about what it takes to keep a business like this going in the 21st century. It's a fascinating place.

P.S. I hope that this post doesn't violate some unwritten eGullet policy, if that's even possible. I feel a bit awkward working there & praising their food, but I'm being up front about my relationship with the place. I found this paragraph in the User Agreement: "This User Agreement sets forth the basic tenets of your relationship with eGullet.com. We have a number of additional policies, however, governing use of the site under specific circumstances. For example, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with our policies on Private Messenger Use, Off-Site Events, Special Categories of Posts (Commercial and Media)...." However, I find no stated policy on Commercial Posts.

In any event, eGullet is partially responsible for my taking this job, so I hope that the administrators will allow some leeway here.
