Within the last few days I noticed somewhere on the Net a Chinese Muslim restaurant -- lots of lamb, interesting breads, no pork, less rice -- recommended in Rockville on the Pike. but I have lost the details and can't remember the precise name.

Any body out there know the answer? And if you do, do you have any report on it?

In December I enjoyed the China Islamic Restaurant in Glendale, California, and would like to try an East Coast version.

Thanks

If I knew its location more precisely I would not be asking the question.

As I understand it, this is not Uighur cooking. It betrays no evidence of Turkic cuisine, but rather is a Muslim variation on Han cooking.

I think East Peking closed this past Winter. It was in a little strip mall about a quarter mile South of Shady Grove Rd on the Pike. I really miss it and haven't found anything to replace it.

It is indeed closed. And although the menu items were interesting, I had never been very impressed with the cooking. Their food was very oily, and fried items always soggy, as though the oil temperature was not high enough.

Looks like East Peking is open again. I saw the new location on my way back into town last night. It just South of the New Fortune shopping center on 355. The parking lot was packed at around 7PM.

Sunday evening was Eid Al-Fittr, the end of the Ramadan fast. I would expect any halal restaurant to be full on that night. As it (and New Fortune) are sort of on my way home, I will give it a try later this week or early next, and make my first EGullet report.

The restaurant where Bare Bones used to be is NOT a Muslim restaurant.

Ate there about two weeks ago and enjoyed the food. Ask the Sushi chef to play the Chinese stringed instrument hanging on the wall. He is VERY talented. Can't speak to the Sushi as that's not what I was there for.

Now I have to try this place. I do not recall any sushi at the old location (but Momo Taro was right next door). I did see that they had moved the old yellow sign to the new location, but I wonder i the food is similar. Was there pork on the menu? Flat bread? I seem to recall no pork at the old place, at least two kinds of flatbread or 'pancake', and a large section of the menu devoted to lamb. Maybe my memory is going.

Edited to correct a typo.
