[SEA] SCCC lunch

Recommended Posts

/begin disclosure

I am a culinary student at Seattle Central Community College.

/end disclosure

We start serving lunch for spring quarter next Wednesday, April 14, from 11:15 AM to 1:00 PM. After that, it's Tuesday to Friday each week until the end of the quarter.

The school is not allowed to advertise, so please come support us. You guys get an inexpensive fine dining lunch, we get more chances to practice in the kitchen. And please consider the bread and pastry case out front from our bakeshop too.

Seattle Central Community College is on 1701 Broadway, on Capitol Hill on the corner of Pine and Broadway, across the street from The Egyptian movie theater.

Many thanks.

Um. . . (can't find emoticon scratching its head in perplexity) where exactly is SCC, again?

The Seattle Culinary Academy restaurants are in the atrium, look for One World Dining, Square One Bistro, and Chef's Express.

Ah, thought I saw a thread from before, but for some reason my eyes just skipped over it. :raz: If any mods want to merge this, feel free.

Anyway, I don't have the menus on hand, but I'll do my best to post them here next Tuesday after school if nobody else beats me to it. Right now I'm only aware of my team's part of the menu for Chef's Express.

Tomorrow's our buffet, all you can eat for $6.50, from 11:15AM - 1PM. We keep bringing out different freshly made items as guests finish them, so please come by if you're in our neck of the woods.

I'll try and snag the new menus for the bistro and restaurant for the next two weeks at the beginning of next week.

Any news on the menus for this week? Once again I've begged the Culinary Academy's office to send me menus. They assured me they have and will (I've somehow dropped off their email list for the nth time), but they don't. Someone working in One World told me that the menus would soon be online, but the AA in the office says it's news to her. If anyone has any insight into getting these menus consistently, please share! It frustrates me for all the large gatherings we've had there in the past and the support we've shown them.

I popped in for lunch today at Square One. Great menu this week. It's Northwesty; I had lemongrass soup with a seared spicy shrimp, followed by wild Alaskan silver salmon with roasted cherry tomato sauce, a great potato cake, and sauteed pea shoots. Then your basic molten chocolate cake. It was a tough choice between the salmon (I was really after the potato cake and the pea shoots) and the herb-roasted duck breast with frisee aux lardons. There was also leg of lamb and other stuff I can't remember. The menu at One World is Mediterranean.

If they would just post the menus on the web site, I'm sure a lot of us would go more often.

Sadly, I have no idea what goes on as far as how the website gets updated or anything like that. I'm on the mailing list too and haven't gotten a menu either yet. These ones I post are me grabbing them from one of the holders in the halls and running to the library to type them up after class. Sorry there's not a more convenient updating, I've asked in person as well.

Anyway, at the very least, I'll keep posting menus here, though the earliest I can do it is after their first day of opening on Tuesday afternoons.

Thanks for supporting us.

Our summer lunch service begins next week and will run from Monday to Thursday until mid August. Next week is a slight exception of Tuesday through Thursday thanks to Independence Day observed on Monday.

It is a hot and cold buffet style service. Come on by and let us practice our garde manger skills on you all.

The way the summer service menu works is: Mondays and Wednesdays are our hot and cold sandwich buffets plus soups, fruit platters and a variety of salads, and Tuesdays and Thursdays are international themed hot buffets, plus many salads, canapes, assorted hors doeuvres, classical show platters and pastries.

Prices are $5.95 and $7.50, respectively.

Tomorrow, the theme is Mediterranean. The two international themes for next week are Asian and Middle Eastern.

If anyone wants to know about the theme ahead of time for a particular week this summer, feel free to ask. I will also try to post here once a week.

Correction on the Middle Eastern theme for next Thursday July 22, it's actually Indian and Pakistani.

The Asian menu for Tuesday July 20 will include items of Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Philipino cuisine, and both days will also include classical garde manger preparations.

Next week's themes are American on Tuesday July 27 (majority Cajun and BBQ) and Mexican on Thursday July 29 along with classical garde manger platters. Sandwich buffets Monday and Wednesday along with American and Mexican cold items.

And if you're in our neck of the woods tomorrow, swing by for Indian and Pakistani lunch, one of the two teams making the entrees is mine.
