I came across a product called Wine Express that says it can age a bottle of wine in only 30 minutes, it is basically a base with magnetic properties that the bottle sits on which does something to the tannins in the wine. Has anybody heard about this or does anybody know if it actually works and is it worth buying? I want to buy it as a present but I'm slightly skeptical about it. Any opinons would be greatly appreciated!!!

A similar product recently generated copious amounts of argument. I'm not sure how many of us really want to go through all that again.

See here and here if you absolutely feel you must.

Viewed at a safe distance, the two threads can be entertaining and informative, plus provide an interesting reflection of what eGullet is all about (imho).

It's as though when you order a sirloin steak, it comes with a side of maggots."
