i quite like a tasting menu, especially if we could get them to pop a couple of the signature dishes on there. lunch or dinner works for me. i'll go with the flow.

With Andy's as-yet-given stamp of approval, we may have our 14. Magnolia has raised her hand...

So - do we want a back-up drop-out list?

Can I suggest that someone ring the restaurant NOW and book the private room? Otherwise we may not have much of a choice of tables for that evening. Andy can always work his magic with Philip Howard later -- if he is as persuasive as he was with Bruce Poole, we should have a great meal.

Personally I would prefer dinner to lunch, but I'll go with the flow as well.

Yes, because there are always drop-outs from these affairs.

Ah - prophetic words...

I called them and found out that - just today - they'd booked the room out to someone else.

They have every other day that week, however. I had them pencil in Saturday 24th January.

I hope this will be okay for everyone.

Thankfully the list has been filled. I was having a hard time fighting the impulse to purchase a transatlantic ticket so that I could join you. Have a great time--I'm sure you will.

Ok chaps - a quick poll.

Option (1) Thursday 22nd Jan?

Option (2) Friday 30th Jan?

We'll have to go with a quick majority, I'm afraid.

Either would work for us, but Friday or Saturday strongly preferred, especially if we are having a big meal and some good wines.

Not fussed. Have strong preference for dinner over lunch.

A meal without wine is... well, erm, what is that like?

Well - even quick polls take time it seems.

I called, and the Friday (30th) was booked.

So Thursday 22nd Jan we are. They're sending me the details.

Apologies in advance for Friday morning.

Thanks Moby, I'll e mail the chef and see what we can arrange in terms of a "special menu" although of course all menus are special at The Square! (they could use that for the strapline of their next run of TV adverts couldn't they).

Posted

Before I liaise with Philip Howard, what are people's thoughts on the budget for this event. As you will realise The Square is not cheap, dinner is £55.00 and tasting menu is £75.00. They have an excellent wine list with lots of choice at the lower end so we could make some savings there if people want. A 15% service charge is suggested for the private room as they don't charge for its hire.
