Either Mark's Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale or Darryl and Olivers in Weston (West of Ft Lauderdale). Both are less than $100 per head.

Daryl and Oliver's Cafe Maxx in Pompano is excellent. So is Sunfish Grille in the same shopping mall. The latter is smaller with closer seating but they try hard and usually succeed. Excellent seafood. If you like Chinese, upscale Chinese, try Rainbow Palace on Oakland Park Blvd. Really classy decor (no chinese lanterns here) and usually excellent food. Across the street from Rainbow Palace in yet another strip mall (there is no other restaurant venue in Ft. Lauderdale) you'll find Cafe Seville, small cute Spanish with great food and a super wine list. In Wilton Manors we just tried and really liked Galanga, a Thai place that also has sushi in a very relaxing, serene environment. Enjoy. Ft. Lauderdale area has more selection of good food than any place it's size IMO. That's why we chose to retire here rather than anywhere else.

I agree with Sammy-- a friend helped me get my current job and so my partner and I took her and her boyfriend out to dinner at Mark's Las Olas in June and we had a great dinner. The decor is very cool, the service is excellent and the food phenomenal. The other plus is location; you can take an after-dinner stroll down Las Olas (especially now that the weather is a bit cooler) and work off all that great food!

We've been to both Mark's Las Olas (three times) and Daryl and Oliver's (once). They are both good, but I would put more faith in Mark's, and it is right in Fort Lauderdale, which was your inquiry.

Life is short; eat the cheese course first.

Just looking for some restaurant suggestions for my wife. No tourist traps please.

I will add to the consensus: Mark's Las Olas is the best place I've dined in Ft Lauderdale in the past 10 years. Good vibe, very good food and service; and an interesting beer and wine list, too.
