Wine-producing regions across the country are modelling themselves on Napa's success in the wine and tourist industries:

NYT on Napa

From the article:

So is Kansas the next Napa? "I don't think that is what we are looking for," Mr. Allegrucci said. "What we are looking for is more of an equivalency."

(You have to register to view NYT on the web, but I'm pretty sure it's free.)

Yes, it's free.

Thanks for posting the link. Very entertaining article. But perhaps this should be posted to Food Media, since it covers a variety of wine-growing regions in the U.S.

Maybe so. I'm sort of a newbie and couldn't decide between here, Food Media, or Wine. Should/can I request to have it moved?

Yeah, the Wine board. You're right. I think the simplest thing is to post links at both those boards. I'll do it.

What on earth is Mr. Allegruci talking about? What does "equivalency" mean? All Napas are equal, but some are more equal that others?

seems like he means that he wouldn't mind seeing more tourism in his area.
