  1. Anyone know when these new shows are going to be aired? And who's playing the obsequious and mildly irritating Ohta?
  2. I'm with you. Here's how my order goes: "Medium coffee please." The counter person usually tries to hide a smile, but I absolutely refuse to to play along by calling the thing a "venti."
  3. Absolutely. And Lou -- I'm actually going to be on 46 a little later today; gonna stop in Captain Fresh as well...
  4. Prompted by a similar post by Menton1 seeking fishmongers in Westchester, I'd like to renew my search for same in Morris Couny. Scratch that -- I'm willing to travel so I'm widening the net, so to speak. I've paid visits to the shops mentioned so far in this thread, but I haven't been bowled over. I've found that most of the fishmongers I've visited -- Denville Seafood, The Fish Market (Morristown), Whole Foods and certainly Kings -- tend to have a very limited variety (salmon, tuna, sword for certain, but not much in the way of whole fish or less common varieties). I also haven't been impressed with turnover -- a lot of what I've seen has looked as though it's been waiting around a day or two too long. I'd love to find a place I can trust and that might carry a wider selection. Can anyone help?
  5. Just posted on Slate.com: The Creatures from the Sandwich Shop
  6. I'm laughing so hard right now I can't breathe.
  7. Don't take my word for it -- I just had no idea what else to call them. I figured "hamsters" was better than "dead mice," which is what they really call to mind...
  8. To be honest with you I really don't know -- probably not. They certainly couldn't be any worse than Subway or Blimpie. The commercials make me laugh every time I see them, but they don't do anything to make me want to find out.
  9. They're not gonna get me to step foot inside a Quiznos, but for sheer entertainment value these ads can't be beat. Quiznos TV ads Hit the link midway down the page to have a look.
  10. Ever get raw potato juice in your eye? Itches.
  11. I've always had good experiences at Ben Benson's -- I actually prefer it over Sparks, and find it much more enjoyable than MJ's.
  12. Interesting food and pretty tasty but no alcoholic beverages (i.e. wine) if that matters to you. Jamie P.S. Welcome to eGullet! Zen Palate doesn't come close -- in food or atmosphere -- to the majority of restaurants mentioned on this thread. My opinion, of course.
  13. Because she was naked or because she was eating a stick of butter? It was the butter -- and how much she seemed to be enjoying it -- that really got my attention.
  14. Also while in college -- very late one night during my junior year -- I found my roommate's girlfriend in our kitchen eating a stick of butter while standing naked in front of the open refrigerator. I was speechless. He married her a few years later. True.
  15. I hope you're right... looks like that's the way things are going to go. Off to the supermarket now to by more beer . Thanks to all for the help -- if anyone else has any thoughts, please post 'em. J
  16. I'd really appreciate it if anyone knows a trick to tone down a (very large) pot of still-cooking chili I'm making for tomorrow's superbowl party. It's a little on the hot side for some of the guests. I'll be putting out the usual additions -- sour cream, cheese, etc., but is there anything I can do now to cool it off?
  17. Roadside fried clams on the cape.

    i don't like wine

Been a while since I thought of Lancer's -- anyone remember those old tv commercials from the '70s?
  19. Isn't there an inherent contradiction here? Why are you so willing to volunteer as an expert on the dining habits of New Yorkers if you admittedly don't spend much time here?
  20. Actually, from a legal standpoint BYO's are not suppose to open or pour your wine. What about Japanese restaurants that routinely take the sake you bring with you to the back for heating?
  21. Perfect! I'll give them both a shot -- one of them as early as tomorrow night -- and report back. Now I've just got to figure out which one of these roads leads to Denville...
  22. It's funny, but coming from Manhattan I still can't believe that I have to drive a half an hour for anything. Been a long time...
