  1. I thought this diner's experience -- posted on his blog -- made for interesting reading. I haven't eaten at ADNY myself; this report doesn't do much to make me want to. "Given the choice between standing in the middle of one of the worst blizzards of the past hundred years and eating in one of the most expensive, renowned restaurants in the world, for which would you opt? Having done both, I would unhesitatingly opt for the former." Click here to read the rest: http://www.stephenpollard.net/002011.html
  2. I have, and I think it's okay. The sushi itself is fairly run of the mill -- which isn't bad, just unimaginative. The room, though, depresses me. I always feel like I'm eating in someone's basement when I'm there.
  3. About what I figured. Damn.
  4. So Orzo, one of only a handful of recommendable restaurants in Morristown, has cleared out. Very disappointing, but I blame it on bad location. Something called the Sushi Lounge will apparently be the next tenant to give the address a shot. I'd love a good sushi place nearby, but I'm not encouraged by the name. Anyone know anything about it? I think they have another location somewhere else in Jersey...
  5. Flay is on multiple times a day on national TV. I think he has furthered his career quite well. ← True enough, but from what I've seen I'm no longer interested in eating in his restaurants.
  6. I live in Morristown and have eaten at Moghul a couple of times. Yes, the food is undeniably good. What pissed me off, though, is the fact that their entrees don't come with rice -- at least not if you're taking out; not sure about the dining room -- you've got to pay extra for it. And pay through the nose -- $5 for plain old white. Left me with a very bad taste.
  7. Accoring to the article in the Times this week, the contestants are told two possible theme ingredients in the days before taping, and they are able to design a menu for each possibility.

    Mud Truck NYC

No, obviously at the other Charbucks 10 ft away at the B&N. Freedom of choice at its best. Though I can see how it would be annoying to have a truck spoiling the otherwise sweet, clean New York City air. Especially in August. ← Or the one 10 feet away in the other direction, on the corner of 3rd Ave.
  9. I used to live around the corner from Flor de Mayo -- it was a few years ago, but if it's the same now I can't recommend it highly enough.
  10. Just my two cents, but I live in Morristown and have eaten at Little Tokyo -- once. Nothing terrible, but nothing that stands out in any way -- decor, food, atmosphere, you name it. I'd go for something a little more interesting.
  11. Don't bother -- nothing the least bit special here...
  12. We had a couple of guys like that for a while -- I think the management referred to them as "investors," with a wink and a nod...
  13. The South Street Creamery in Morristown does a pretty good job with its gelato.

    Bubble Tea

I love the stuff. For anyone in NYC looking to try it, the Saint's Alp Tea House on 3rd Avenue & 11th Street is the place to go. Cold taro with tapioca can't be beat when it's hot out.
  15. I can't speak for what Morristown was, but having lived here now for the better part of six months I feel qualified to make a statement or two about what it is. It amazes me what the good people of Morristown are willing to settle for with regard to food. I have been turning over rocks since December trying to put together a list of a few reliably decent places to eat; that's just what I've come up with -- a few. Origin French Thai is a godsend. It joins Orzo -- a relatively new Italian place also near the center of Morristown -- as a place I can eat with something more than just resignation and a set of low expectations. Now if someone out here could just manage to get a burger right...
  16. I've never been to the original venue in Somerville, but Origin just opened a new place on South Street in Morristown, about a block before the green. We had dinner there last night -- excellent. Origin French Thai I'll gratefully add another to the (short) list of good restaurants in the area.
  17. I don't know if this has been addressed elsewhere in the thread -- and I apologize if it has -- but shark fin is not "PC" because of the way the sharks are often treated when caught. They are hauled up to the side of the boat to have their dorsal fins cut away while still alive, then released to die an agonizing death. The fins are the only part harvested and, being a delicacy, the practice has had a real impact on certain shark populations.
  18. He has been on TV, he has written a book, and there has never been any effort made to conceal his image. Any restaurateur with 5 minutes to spare can find images of him online. Here he is: Bruni
  19. Judging from the memo (Gawker), yes: ..."Eric has a rare and wonderful palate, and a big brain filled with memories of wines tasted, spat out, and savored. He has a populist's touch to explain it. He begins on June 2. Consider the ``$25 & Under'' gig posted." *Edited to add link
  20. Check this link and laugh your ass of at Starbucks' expense. http://www.illwillpress.com/sml.html It's funny 'cause it's true... Note: Not work safe.
  21. Guess we know why that feta is in the antipasto... I thought about it saying it myself but decided against it.
  22. Thanks Scott -- much appreciated. You're not the first to recommend Hennesey's, though I have yet to check in. This weekend sounds like as good a time as any...
  23. Hands-down favorite is AB. Two-way tie for last between Mark Somers (sp?) and Bobby Rivers. Each of them makes me want to throw the tv out the window.
