  1. What fun we had! Carrie, if I recall correctly, the egg in your dish was a chestnut omelet. I've got that dreaded CRS, so could be wrong! Don thoroughly enjoyed the leftovers for dinner last night! Sorry your day ended so badly. I'll try to work Nirvana into my schedule sometime soon--I hadn't heard of it. Can't wait to see you in September--I'll email you the dates sometime later.
  2. I'm sure I'm not the only transplant from KC.
  3. Here's one of my favorite salads from Gustaf Anders which sadly is gone from So. Cal. Parsley Salad with Basil Dressing Gustaf Anders 1 small shallot, minced ¼ garlic clove, minced ¼ cup chopped fresh basil leaves ½ cup rice wine vinegar ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil 4 cups fresh parsley leaves, rinsed and spun dry 4 teaspoons drained and thinly sliced sun dried tomatoes 6 cherry tomatoes 4 teaspoons freshly grated Parmesan freshly ground pepper, to taste In a blender blend the shallot, garlic, basil and vinegar. With the motor running, add the oil in a stream and blend until emulsified. In a salad bowl, mix the parsley, sun dried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and Parmesan. Drizzle with 3-4 tablespoons of the dressing. Toss well and season with salt and pepper. Serves 2 to 4
  4. Yes, that's what I heard as well.
  5. Not my neck of the woods. Isn't there a Basque place out that way, or am I confusing it with someplace else?
  6. Ellen, I'm so glad you posted--I was getting concerned!! Congrats on your rapidly improving health/weight loss!!!
  7. Love it!!
  8. There are a couple of those already open in south county. They've been around for a year or so I think. I think one is called Dinners Made Easy (or something like that) and I can't remember the other. I'll watch for the ads to get the names right.
  9. I like Delaware Market Cafe when I'm there. And while the food isn't always the greatest, I love The Courthouse Exchange in Independence for nostalgic reasons. All that said, I haven't lived in KC for 30+ years and don't get back there as often as I'd like, so am not as up-to-date as the city.
  10. Not sure when you'll be here, but Slow Food OC is having their very first event on Feb. 1: I hope to be there!!
  11. Oh, yes! I tried way too much of it when in Prague!
  12. My current breakfast fav is Fage 0% mixed with honey, sprinkled with some pistachios and drizzled with pomegranite glaze.
  13. My latest breakfast craze: Fage 0% yogurt mixed with a bit of honey, sprinkled with pistachios and drizzled with pomegranite glaze/syrup/molasses.
  14. Last week I made a beef stew and added the zest and juice from a clementine and a couple of cinnamon sticks. It was the best stew I've ever made!
  15. This is what popped up when I googled: CFC Chocolatier 23022 La Cadena Dr Laguna Hills, CA 92653 (949) 305-8626 But when you click on the link to the website, it doesn't mention that location. Maybe it's a local sales/distribution office?
  16. They're not in CA, they're located in Tulsa, OK. ← I came up with them in a search, too. They must have some sort of facility here, as they've got an address/phone. Next time I'm over that way, I'll drive by and check it out.
  17. I have not been, so make no recommendation: Downey's Chocolates is in Laguna Niguel on Aliso Creek Road--almost in Laguna Hills.
  18. There is at least one chocolate shop that has opened here in Laguna Hills within the past year. Unfortunately, I can't remember the names/locations nor have I been to them. I'll keep my eyes open and ask around. Sorry I can't be more helpful--I'm trying to lose weight, thus avoid these places.
  19. This is fascinating to me! They are opening a Tesco near me here in Southern California sometime soon. I've never been in a Tesco, but the publicity that has preceded this opening has touted it as a wonderful place to shop. I'll be sure to avoid the cassoulet and will report back on how the store is received here.
  20. Here you go! Look about half-way down.
  21. If you're looking for a copy of the user's manual and no one here has one, I've got 2 suggestions. Contact WS and ask them if they can send one. Look on eBay to see if someone is selling one that has the manual. Contact the seller and ask if they will make a copy of the manual and send it to you (you'd pay for the copies/postage). I just had someone do that with a tapedeck I'm selling.
  22. Thanks for fixing the links, Foodie!
  23. The links don't work for me either. (Using Firefox.)
  24. Thank you all! I'm passing along the info!
  25. Thanks! It doesn't sound particularly tasty to me, but I'll pass it along to my friend!
