    The peaches are in!

BastilaShan, did you know you can park for free for up to one hour in the market garage on Western (The PPM website should have directions to it if you don't know where it is). The garage has an elevator and bridge over Western that gets you right between Sosio's and the pepper jelly people. During tourist hours it's definitely a pain to walk through the market though
  2. I didn't see any price info on the website.. is it $150 per person for every dinner?
  3. Nah, it's all the same neighborhood.. Notcapitol Hill
  4. Elysian Brewery at 12th and Pike is pretty good. Standard Seattle-ish pub food, and you should be able to get a big table. I like Crave (12th and Pine), but it might be too small for your group. I think there are about 20-30 seats..
  5. Interesting promotion of free coffee if you use a Mastercard. Good thing I have 4 Visa cards... The Cellar looks like it's approximately where Cassis was, maybe it's new? The places tsquare and Laurie mentioned sound great to me, and I haven't been to any of them.. maybe an egullet expedition?

    The peaches are in!

I got some peaches from Rama in the market basket on Monday, and they were excellent. I have a 25 lb box on order to pick up on Friday...
  7. Since I walk past it on my way to work, I've been wondering what Lloyd's Rocket (which until a few months ago was an abandoned gas station featuring murals, a vine-covered gutted gas pump, and a chain link fence) was turning into. It's had a lot of work done on it lately, and has a fresh coat of copper paint. According to Penelope Corcoran, it's going to be a restaurant...
  8. I think the factors of price and value also play into this. I can afford to eat (occasionally) at the most expensive places in Seattle, but the most expensive places in NYC are out of my budget, and I also think I'm getting more for my $50-$100 at one of the "best" places in Seattle vs. the "good" places in NYC. I think this applies more at the mid-to-high end though. NYC has tons more choices for cheap food.
  9. I saw an application for liquor license about two doors down from Crave (which was great) for something called "Tarragona Wine and Food" (or Food and Wine, I don't remember).
  10. Speaking of playing with ones food, we flipped through this book between courses at Mashiko: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...8/egulletcom-20 Lots of fruits and vegetables made to look like animals.. maybe we need to write one for animal products made to look like vegetables?

    Mathleaf?

Fenugreek/Methi maybe? http://www.foodsubs.com/HerbsIndian.html I've only encountered it in Indian cooking, so maybe asking on the India forum would work. The only thing I've ever made with it is Aloo Methi, with potatoes and dried methi.
  12. It does sound like you bought the wrong spring roll wrappers. There are two different things called "spring roll wrappers". It looks like the ones you bought are the dough based ones that are similar to wonton and egg roll wrappers; these are intended to be used for making Chinese fried spring rolls. The ones you want are made of rice paper (or tapioca flour), and used for Vietnamese uncooked spring rolls. Did you find your wrappers in the refrigerated section? The ones you want are dried, so they won't be in the refrigerator. They'll probably be near the dried noodles.
  13. Olive oil and garlic is one of my favorite ways to have kale. Is there anything specific you didn't like about it? If it was too bitter, try adding some acid (lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, etc.), which can help cut the bitterness. Leafy vegetables also seem to get more bitter in hot weather... (By the way, olive oil is fat)
  14. I've had some pretty good cheesecake from "a piece of cake" in the I-District. I prefer fluffy and cheesy to dense and sweet, so others might not agree..
  15. New list. If you didn't specify a time for 9/23, I just randomly assigned you one to even out the numbers: 9/16, 6:30 (Ethan Stowell): MsRamsey MrRamsey rockdoggydog LainerX SeaGal DrColby Cathy Sleepy_Dragon ScorchedPalate Cam malarkey Laurel Joe tighe Pat 9/23 (Jonathan Sundstrom) 5:30: FoodieGirl Richard LainerX SeaGal DrColby Cathy SleepyDragon 7:30: MsRamsey Ledlund Paul ScorchedPalate Cam malarkey Laurel Joe
  16. All the chains still have 8oz cups and will give you a short latte-type drink for a few cents less than the tall if you ask, even if it's not on the menu. I'm not sure if they do it for the shake-type stuff though. Krispy Kreme is jumping on the frozen coffee drink bandwagon too: http://krispykreme.com/frozenblends.html Somehow "having our coffee and a glazed donut swirled in a cup" doesn't really appeal to me though.
  17. By the way, there are a few people who haven't replied about 5:30 or 7:30 for 9/23, so if you could get back to me as soon as possible so I can make the reservation, that would be great...
  18. I got a reservation for 9/16 for 15 people at 6:30, so that's all set. For 9/23, they're full at 6:30, so they suggested splitting into 5:30 and 7:30, so if you could PM/email me with your preference for that day, that would be great.
  19. Looks like the list is: 9/16 (Ethan Stowell): MsRamsey + MrRamsey rockdoggydog whitelotus + Mr. whitelotus LainerX? SeaGal malarkey DRColby + Cathy Sleepy_Dragon ScorchedPalate + Cam 9/23 (Jonathan Sundstrom): MsRamsey FoodieGirl + richard rockdoggydog whitelotus + Mr. whitelotus LainerX? Ledlund + Paul SeaGal malarkey DRColby + Cathy Sleepy_Dragon ScorchedPalate + Cam PM me if this isn't correct... If you said either or both, or didn't say which day, I put you down for both. I'll call tomorrow. Hopefully 2 months in advance will be enough to get seats for everyone, if not, I'm sure we can be split into two seatings, which might be better for the people who would prefer earlier or later. [Edited to add new people below]
  20. Whistling train farm sells pork. I've never tried it, but their eggs and vegetables are great, so the pork might be worth a try. http://www.localharvest.org/farms/M480 I think the info in the web site might be out of date, because I don't think they do Pike Place Market anymore (They are at U-District and West Seattle farmers' markets).
  21. Would 6:30 or 7 be a good compromise for both the early and late crowds? Or should we do one early and one late?
  22. I have some Stupice and Red Grape that are starting to turn orange... I can't wait :)
  23. Reservations for Guest Chef night are available from 5:30pm-7:45pm, with seatings every 15-minutes. Guest Chef Night set menus are $16.95 plus tax, beverage and gratuity.
  24. Two of the board's favorite chefs are doing Guest Chef Night at Fare Start in September: 9/16/04 Ethan Stowell, Union Featured Winery: Hedges Cellars 9/23/04 Jonathan Sundstrom, Lark Featured Winery: Kestrel Winery Would people be interested in an egullet table? For those who aren't familiar with Fare Start, it's a nonprofit that helps train homeless and otherwise disadvantaged people for restaurant jobs. For guest chef night, chefs donate their labor and ingredients to create a 3 course meal. They only charge $16.95, all of which benefits Fare Start.
