  1. If you are up for some ridiculously over the top entertainment, go to the Mirabeau when they have big wheel bingo .. I think it's every other Tuesday or something like that.
  2. FWIW, I like Galerias.. I don't know if there's that much difference between the "new" and the "old" though.
  3. I like Tsukushinbo's also. It's within a few blocks of Takohachi, and seems to be open more often.
  4. The current issue of Saveur has recipes from Lucknow in India with gold and silver leaf: http://www.saveur.com/issue.jsp?ID=200407
  5. Wow, another saba shioyaki lover... Takohachi is my #1 saba shioyaki place now that Koraku is gone.
  6. The Securities Building (Bed Bath and Beyond) 1 block east (same cross streets as Farestart, except between 3rd and 4th instead of on 2nd) is $4 and indoors.. it's the best deal in the area that I've seen if you don't want to look for a free spot.
  7. I really enjoyed last week's dinner too, and I'm glad that it seems everyone else did. I'm really looking forward to this Thursday's as well. Mariam asked me to remind everyone that since Thursday is sold out, it's important to be on time, especially for the 5:30 group. As the worst offender last time, I'll make sure to allow extra parking time this week...
  8. I'm probably going to do Sushi 101... anyone else? I'd do 201 but it's on Thanksgiving weekend, and I'll probably have guests over..
  9. It's Seattle, of course it is! But only if you bring mushrooms

  11. Like someone who knows that is Capitol and not Capital?
  12. The email this week includes this line: LIVE MUSCOVY DUCKS: Drakes and hens at Columbia City. I hope there will be an option to take them home in a non-live format...
  13. 14. I agree with the ID suggestions. non-Chinese restaurants aren't the only ones with good crabs too.. I like the crab at Malay Satay Hut: http://malaysatayhut.com/.
  15. Not only that, but supposedly there is a separate effort from the Ballard/Fremont market people: The website doesn't work though...
  16. It depends from where. There's actually quite a range of climates if you include Central and Eastern Washington in your seasonal/local range. Two orchards I visited last week that were within 5 miles of each other had the same variety of peach ripen two weeks apart. Anything that is cheap and plentiful at a farmer's market is of course going to be seasonal. You can get on a mailing list at http://www.seattlefarmersmarkets.org/ that will send you what they have every week.
  17. Looks like there aren't any objections, so the new list is: 9/16, 6:30 (Ethan Stowell): MsRamsey MrRamsey rockdoggydog LainerX SeaGal DrColby Cathy Sleepy_Dragon ScorchedPalate Cam malarkey Laurel Joe tighe Pat 9/23 (Jonathan Sundstrom) 5:30: FoodieGirl Richard LainerX SeaGal DrColby Cathy SleepyDragon sequim 7:45 (time change) MsRamsey Ledlund Paul ScorchedPalate Cam malarkey Laurel Joe little ms foodie little mr foodie [edited to add sequim]
  18. Sorry about not getting back to you earlier, little ms foodie... They can add 2 to our 7:30 reservation, but only if we switch from 7:30 to 7:45. If nobody objects to the 15 minute change, I'll call tomorrow, and ask them to change it... Also, they told me that one person could easily be added to our 5:30 reservation, if anyone else wants to eat early.
  19. Today's PI has a link to http://www.seattletravel.com/seattle-happyhour-ballard.htm
  20. Uwajimaya also has them, in the sushi section, not the eggs section. I think Alberts is referring to the Pike Place Market Creamery, which I think is in the Sanitary building.
  21. Dick's Restaurant Supply (http://www.dicksrestaurantsupply.com/) has used equipment. I don't know if it has the kind of personality you are looking for, though.
  22. I like the food there too. I wasn't very impressed by the space, but I've only been there on cold, dark, winter nights, so the huge windows were not a positive aspect. I imagine a summer sunset there would be quite impressive. If you want to actually be able to talk, ask to be seated near the windows and away from the open kitchen and piano guy. Also they have a mobile flaming dessert cart if you or your guests would enjoy that sort of thing...
  23. Not actually a restaurant, but looks interesting: http://tarragonawine.com/index.html
  24. I went to the same dinner as the Times reviewer went to, and I thought the food was as excellent as the article claimed. Since we reserved late, Joe and I ended up at a table by ourselves.. next time I'll definitely ask for a seat at the communal table.
  25. It's also known as amaranth. I guess different people have different tastes.
