We mostly shop together. I do all the cooking, washing up, laundry. Most of the housecleaning. He fixes stuff: Washers, dryers, dishwashers, broken appliances, gardening, garbage in and out, his breakfasts and lunches (as long as I keep a supply of instant throw togethers in fridge and cupboard; leftovers a blessing.). ETA cell phones have probably saved more marriages than counselors as one spouse calls the other one who is "lost" in the supermarket or flea market or,..

Peppers and anchovy Lasagne, courtesy of our "angel nanny" who works next door. She periodically drops by large pans of "dinner".

Not quite, but you might like this onion/mayo grilled toast. Onion/mayo toasts used to be our early poverty midnight snack. So easy, so fast, so cheap, so delicious. eta, we never added the cheese.

Tangentially, my father told of being sent by his mother to the local brewery where they would fill a small pail of yeast from the top of a vat for him. His chagrin was when they told him to lean forward for a sniff then jerk the ladle up, coating his face with yeast. Humiliating for a 7-8 year old boy. Our small town had two breweries and one cider works.

I have always used Marcella Hazan's lasagna recipe. With either spinach or plain pasta sheets. Back in the '80s, this was a frequent party dish. Recipe

Fascinating! I have never seen dairy sold in plastic bags. We are used to square cardboard cartons. I suppose one gets used to anything if that is one's option.

Cold clear day calls for Oeufs en Meurette, poached eggs in red wine sauce. Often described as beef Burgundy without the beef. "Warms the cockles of your heart."

$2.59 a bunch at Grocery Outlet, labeled from Peru. Sweet and tender altho sleeping in my veg crisper since before Christmas. I usually eschew out of season imported veg and fruits but thought that at this price white asparagus was amusing. I don't remember ever buying white asparagus before. The sauce is my "go to" for asparagus and fish. Heat a couple of tablespoons creme fraiche or sour cream in a very small saucepan, like a butter warmer. Add a tablespoon of pureed preserved Meyer lemon. Whisk until smooth, then whisk in as much cold butter as it will hold, around half a cube. Don't let boil. Keep warm over warm water.
