    Dinner 2020

Not much change in our "dining" routine. Fresh cheese with husband's family dressing, essentially Russian dressing with blue cheese. Surprisingly delicious and well received veg: poached chard stems in light veloute with Parmesan. Picky husband loved this. Packaged lobster ravioli, simple butter and Parmesan

  5. Ann_, once again you breads are incredible. But my real question is about your photography. How do you consistently create pieces with extraordinary lighting, contrasts and colors?
  6. Both son and daughter in law are on us like biting sows. Two neighbors have also volunteered to shop. To see ourselves as others see us....

Who ever got tired looking at photos of Marilyn Monroe or JLo... But seriously, who doesn't want to see and know more about this pasta. Maccheroni quadriflglio doesn't even Google well enough for us to grasp it.
  10. Hash is a lovely thing in all its infinite variety. Poultry, fish as delicious as the usual suspects. We have a hash story in our family. I took our son to a downtown cafeteria for lunch when he was about two. I checked out the menu board and saw corned beef hash, a favorite of his. I ordered my lunch and a half order of hash for the baby. "Can't do half orders." "No?" Then he launches into a long explanation The manager appears and asks what the problem is, is informed and announces, "Make a half order for the child." "Thank you, sir." So we get our order and sit at a booth. Son WOLFS his hash and calls out, "More hash." "Shhhh, there is no more hashh." "More HASH!" "SSHHHHHHH, that was plenty. There is no more," "MORE HASHH!!!" The rest is a blank in my mind. We somehow got out of there. But hash becane a family war cry.

We have a communal table here where we can bring our bag-lunches and our tours de force. One place we can still share food and space.

Sweetie, you need to speed up your game. We NEED your great plate shots.
  13. Sounds about shelf price where i live.
  14. I never have a handle on this household staple. I lost count just short of $4 but recently find it over that. What's your sense?
  15. No milk box, but we did have dairy delivery. You had a usual order and requested extraordinary product by stuffing a note in an empty bottle. In winter, you would occasionally find over an inch or so of frozen cream extending from the top of the bottle. Yes, cream since this was before homogenization. We also had a chicken and rabbit lady who came into town every week or so with fresh product. As I marginally remember, rabbits were dressed but chickens needed to be drawn. Maybe not. I do remember with some angst my mother insisting that I learn how to draw a chicken. I wasn't amused, She said it was necessary should I marry someone who hunted. I told her that I would ask any guy first if he liked to hunt. Always the pragmatist.

  21. Are we approaching this from etymology or pronunciation? As in potato bread or garlic bread?

I also use boxed sauteing greens. I usually cook up the entire box for the two of us, but have started rationing us to half a box. Husband made a fast shopping run yesterday and not one boxed green was available. I need to do "grow dances" in front of the chard plant in the backyard.
