    White Manna

Gaffer's is 5 minutes from my house so we don't mind driving there. Who do you feel makes the best burger? Go Blue!
  3. I wanted to recommend this movie. If you are familiar with restaurant kitchens and the "goings on" you will enjoy it. we found the movie entertaining. Anyone see it?
  4. =Mark goes there all the time. Maybe he'll check in and help us out.

    NJ Hot Dogs

Petridis is a store on Broadway and I think 25th St. in Bayonne. I eat hot dogs maybe once a year! So--I have only heard that they were very good. I have never had one. Go and come back here and give us a report! ;)
  6. Hunan Taste? Is it BYO?

    NJ Hot Dogs

John--Are you the famous "hotdog John?" Welcome. We're glad to have a hot dog expert here! Have you tried Petridis on Broadway in Bayonne?
  8. If I went to a Caribbean restaurant what foods would you recommend that I order?
  9. "Reciting Specials without the prices." Do you go into a store and buy a suit and then when you get to the cash register wait to be told how much the suit is? It's the same when buying food. People DO want to know the prices. Some restaurateurs tell their waitstaff NOT to recite the prices of specials because the specials are much higher than the highest entree. "Waiter's who say excellent." If I want the waiter's opinion I will ASK him about the dish and/or what he recommends. I don't need his approval. "Bad Coffee" Restaurants could serve a good cup of coffee if they choose to at a reasonable price. Cheap coffee--bigger profits. Ū is not alot for coffee but it is alot for bad coffee. Waiters have a very hard job. And when you are dealing with the public it can be very demanding. Every personality will eventually find their way to your table.
  10. It's connected with Mediterra, Nova Terra, Wine Press.
  11. Interesting about the coffee at Rebecca's. This was one of the few NJ restaurants where I thought the coffee was drinkable. They serve Cuban coffee. I also think that more restaurants are opening up on Sun. because business during the week is slow.
  12. Indecent answers are ok! Do tell. Enquiring minds.... ;)

    Quick Pasta

Steven--If you want really FAST sauce use ketchup! Actually, if I use a jar of sauce I always add a can of crushed or whole tomatoes and some red wine.
  14. I still vote for Andy. Everyone is always teasing him and I hope to enlarge my halo! ; )
  15. We had dinner tonight at Cafe Colore, 4095 Rt 1 S, South Brunswick Square Shopping Center, South Brunswick. This recently opened casual 50 seat restaurant under the direction of Chef Michael Coury is very attractive with light green walls, some wooden farmhouse tables that seat six and a slick neat look. The restaurant has a liquor license with a small but ample selection of Italian wines by the 3 ounce or 6 ounce glass or bottle. There is no sit-down bar area When seated we were given slices of toasted bread topped with a white bean paste and an addictive herbed olive oil to dip our bread into. We shared a balsamic cipolline, rosemary and cheese pizzette which was big enough for the two of us. My entrée was strezzopreti with broccoli rabe, golden raisins and toasted pine nuts and Lowell had sautéed medallions of veal, red grapes, onions and sweet vermouth with sautéed escarole and herbed white bean puree. Both were not only tasty but also a delightful change from the usual dishes you are offered in an Italian restaurant. Dessert was a chocolate brioche bread pudding with whisky sauce. What could be bad? Café Colore is open daily for dinner. Call 732-355-0410 for reservations.
  16. In Bayonne there are many Polish delis. Try the place on 36th and Broadway. It is on the corner. And there is one on 32nd and Broadway right next to a bakery. Both are great. Go early in the day as they sell out fast. Sorry--I don't have the names. I'll try to get them if you think you will be in that area.
  17. We use to go to Elio's alot when I lived in Edison. Thanks for reminding me of this restaurant. The only down side is that they have a liquor license and I LOVE BYO. ;)
  18. Marco Polo and Andy Lynes.
  19. We returned to Blue Sky Café, Montclair for dinner last night. For appetizers we had a portobello mushroom sandwiched between fried green tomatoes. It reminded me of a steak sandwich. Also, we had a plate of two different homemade raviolis; one was stuffed with oxtail and the other with a pear ginger filling. Brown butter and almonds finished this delicious dish. For entrees Lowell had a buffalo hanger steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. We loved the spices on the steak but prefer a beef hanger steak as the fat content is higher! I had a fabulous butternut squash stuffed with barley and vegetables. It was topped with melted mozzarella cheese. We were too full for dessert. And you? Are you going out this weekend? Be sure to give us a report.
  20. There is a good Asian market on Rt. 1 in Edison near Old Post Rd. Also, there is one on Rt. 27 in Edison--close to Highland Park in the Topps shopping center. It use to be the Topps shopping center. Topps is out of business and I don't know if they renamed it.
  21. Welcome Jay. Glad to have you posting and not lurking.
  22. Any suggestions? We would love to know about ethnic restaurants in the area. Also, we will be dining with senior citizens and would like to know about good small restaurants. They don't enjoy gourmet innovative cuisine.
  23. Amanda's is my favorite in Hoboken. Have been wanting to try Frankie and Johnnies and The Brass Rail.
  24. I think there is a new Wegman's being built in Freehold.
  25. The Bernard's Inn offers a tasting menu six nights a week. The menu changes daily and it must be ordered for the whole table. On Saturday they serve it after 8:30 PM. Cost is ๛ for the six course tasting menu and 贎 with wine which includes a dessert wine. You can order the tasting menu when you arrive at the restaurant. You need to request a fish or vegetarian tasting menu a few days in advance.
