  1. Sweet Obsessions on Tuesday for Chocolate Ganache cake and their Chocolate Obsession. Rodney's Oyster House for a delicious platter of raw oysters, pan-fried oysters, and then my usual Americano at The Elysian Room accompanied by nice brownie from Prado. Go Fish today for really good fish and chips, and a delicious chipotle curry fish chowder. Then to Patisserie LeBeau for gaufres de lieges--mango, white chocolate almond, and apple custard. Oh, and an Amerciano from The Elysian Room.
  2. Uhm....exercise?
  3. I don't mind fruit, I just don't usually like fruit and chocolate together....except for chocolate and banana, or chocolate and pear. Nothing too acidic though, like berries. (And I love nuts and chocolate....not that anyone asked...) Those are some beautiful pictures!
  4. Chocolate coconut oatmeal cookies that I baked last night. I think Arne has a plate of them somewhere....
  5. Oh my....when I was skimming this post, I thought you had typed "castrating".
  6. Would it be bad if I told you that I scarfed down 3 cookies when I got home, and half a bag of Roasted Chicken flavoured chips?
  7. I don't know if this is the "authentic" method, but this recipe calls for gelatin in the broth. http://recipeview.com/Chinese/Chinese1422.htm
  8. I thought that the broth is set with gelatin, then placed into the wrapper with the meat, and then melts while in the steamer.
  9. The waffles at Patisserie LeBeau were quite good too--the mango was my favourite, followed by the white chocolate almond, and then the apple custard. I loved the crunchiness of the pearl sugar inside the waffles.
  10. The fish and chips were great, but the soup was even better! I loved the strong lime flavour. (And this is coming from someone who doesn't really like soup to begin with.)
  11. After lunch at Go Fish, we had to have dessert--so Joie and I just got back from Patisserie LeBeau. We shared the white chocolate almond, the mango, and the apple custard (this thing is HEAVY!) A formidable feat after fish and chips, but somebody's gotta do it. Joie took pictures, so stay tuned! Our favourite was the mango one that she chose. Love the crunch of the pearl sugar.
  12. Now that's my kind of breakfast! The "Decadent Chocolate Cake" pictured is my 2nd favourite baked good The Elysian Room carries...after the oatmeal raisin bars.
  13. I do love chocolate, but I'll try anything that comes highly recommended by another Egulleter. Pistachio it is!
  14. ^I've been meaning to try their desserts, thanks! Have you had anything from there before?

    Dinner! 2005

A big fat steak, a pound of asparagus, and about a million chocolate coconut oatmeal cookies, fresh from the oven.
  16. That cheesecake! Could you tell us what sets Pappagallo's cheesecakes apart from others you've eaten? And what's that in the case underneath the strawberry cheesecake--it looks like a banana cream pie cheesecake to me! I might have to make a trek out to Burnaby....that thick graham crust looks so tempting. (And I'm bringing cookies to share at our "al fresco" lunch tomorrow )
  17. I read about Sweet Revenge on Main Street in another thread...any thoughts on this place? Any desserts that come highly recommended? This week's desserting (to borrow a word Joie coined) will be at Notte's Bon Ton. (I remember reading that the Diplomat cake is really good there.)
  18. ^PaoPao, I haven't had the truffles yet. Do you know what kind of chocolate they use?
  19. Today: some beautiful, raw, Buckley Bay oysters
  20. was that a sweet or a savoury dish? I think it could go both ways and both would be delicious. But knowing your posts, I'm guessing this was dessert.. ← Yes...it was a dessert The stilton flavour is quite mild.
  21. Ooohhh...how I love that gingerbread pudding! It comes to your table warm, gooey, and with a nice amount of spice. The pumpkin ice-cream is soooo good!
  22. I don't think I've ever had a true Danish dessert (and I'm sure those danishes from Costco and those blue tins of "Danish butter cookies" don't count. ) We'll have to add that bakery to the list, for sure!
  23. I posted about Ba Guo Bu Yi in another thread, but it deserves a mention here too, for xiao long bao. (Located in the strip mall on Park Road, the one with the Dairy Queen.)
  24. I get the 4 shot Americano from JJ Bean too! The barista always cracks, "Small girl, big coffee."
  25. Oh darn...guess I'll have to make do with the Gourmet/Epicurious recipe. I'm doing a different crust though, and using more stilton.
