  2. Thanks for the website link. Fun
  3. I have had pretty good luck with the Minimalist. Usually if you take recipes as general guide lines and work around them they come out pretty good. I would give Mr.Bittaman benefit ot doubt in this case, since most of his recipes have been practical. Fun
  4. Crisp fried red and yellow peppers, pearl onions and Jicama or Turnips ? !
  5. Having been to Diwan in New York and Thali in Connecticut and quite a few Indian restaurants in the neighborhood, and upon your quote I am interested in Vij's in Vancouver any phone # ? or any other info. Fun
  6. WILFRID IS RIGHT. I have tried not to compar and not to compare in New England thread about Great Indian Food in Connectciut. I was helpless and ended up comapring TABLAA and DIWAN. Bottom line they both are good, it all comes down to, how one looks at it. My comments are in that thread. Fun

    Are they drinkable

This article was written on Friday March 7 , 03 by Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher. The Zest of the article, quote " Our advice to people who want to start a big, serious collection is simple: Relax" Buy what you are going to drink. They majority of wine in America - estimates range from 70% to 90% is consumed with in 24 hours of purchase. If there was anything there, they simply bought faste than they could drink. Hope you can find that article. Fun

    Are they drinkable

For those all of you who stack or collect wines in the cellar, please read today,s wall street journal. Buy what you are going to drink today ! My question is, should I collect more or should I finish what I have in my basement. I have a bigger collection of reds than whites, some Bordeauxs (Spell?) Fun
  11. Will get back to Thalia in a week or so, will give you all my opinion. Fun
  12. I like almost all the food establishments at the Mohegun Sun. Having dined twice at the MJ,s I will reccomend it highly and so is Tod English Restaurant and bar. I forget the burger joints name, usually they have a line. All these joints are great specially when you are winniing and spending their money or comps. The Service, is great at MJ,s or atleast far superior than english,s restaurant. Also what I have noticed, people try to spend less time on food and give more time on gaming. If I go back I will have a fine dinner or if I am in rush MJ,s has a casual sports bar and great food. Fun
  13. Patang, I love this game, specially spring and fall. Yes, there is Pataang (Spell?) competetion in the month of July. What I have learnt is the French Revolution day which is July 14, year ???? called Bastille day, usually have this game to celebrate Bastille day. I am not certainly a historian, I love food, good food !! It is on a Sunday and I swear I had fun last year. Lot of French street vendors including food and they have a special drink which is kind of annisette flavored cocktail. They are great Last night in this snow we made it to St. Tropez. Had a very decent meal. Amazed I was with the new bar in the side room, called "O". Been told by the bartender it gets busy on the weekends. Will check it out. Fun
  14. Claire 797 Will try to go to Clay Pit, the motherhood as you said, but it's in Austin. You know what, I have couple of friends in Texas, may be I can let them know. Could you please forward thier phone or a website if they have. Thank You With no offence to anyone, I think who ever is interested in food in general and Indian food in Connecticut should continue on the forum about the food and restaurants, rather than having personality clashes. After reviewing the forum, I certainly understand where everyone is coming from. Now that the author of the article is in lime light, that explains this is genuine and Chirnomula had a gourmet restaurant four years ago as per Claire 797. I am convinced this is a genuine experience and hope the same for the other forum members as well. Fun
  15. I like to understand one thing the rating by grimes Fair is it better than Poor to satisfactory or worst than Poor to Satisfactory. Bcoz the paper does not have that catogory. And if its poorer than fair, how come he says, the quality of Oysters of 30 varieties is dazzling and excellent and says its doingthe right thing. funcook
  16. I shall whisper too when I am next in Grand central for some oysters with my date Fun

    street food

If you consider hot dogs and burgers, street food they turn out pretty good at home. I think the book idea is a great one. In Thailand on my last visit in July 02 , street food was fasinating, including a lot of sea food and fresh fruit cut up with some kind of powder topping. In Santa Domingo I found fried fish to be great on the beach side. Surroundings on both occasions were pretty as bad as atmosphere is concerned, may be that adds to the taste. Fun
  18. In general I agree with Bux. I happen to live in Connecticut and happened to know this forum thru an egulleteer and I have been forwarding this web to as many people I know. Could be new people. I thorughly started enjoying this forum and especially something in fairfield county. After being introduced to egullet member and seeing the attached clip from the fat-guy of the Journal news, who would not try! As per your quote, I may not be credible enough and I completely understand your judgement and no grouch about it either and I would like to continue on other topics as well. If I were you with experience of the egullet, I would be in the same shoes. I still think this place is unique. Give it a try and I would like to see your honest opinion, let's say forget about mine. Otherwise Connecticut I generally find boring. By the way I like an other restaurant in Greenwich "Baang", one of my favorites, loud music, great food. Thank you Fun
  19. I think they got what they deserved, what do you care? They don't. Business got better. People have gone back to check how bad can it be and returned with smile, Ah ! it's not all that bad. Fun
  20. What do you all mean by meat perveyors. For home or Hotels and restaurants. Fun
  21. I have been back after reading about it and I am in love with the place. Yes chicken curry from South India was very flavorful and I will get that each time I will go back. I was disappointed not to see their wine guy ! though I was reccomended a reisling with spicy chicken tikka, called Achaar tikka, that wine you will drink it like beer. We also had fish from the Tandoor. Halibut Tikka, was fabulous. I will go back any time there, would you folks
  22. dear Bux Will get back to you on the Patang. Yes it is in Fairfield by the train station. Fun
  23. Suvir - You think you can send me a recipe for a traditional Avial. Thank you - Funcook
  24. Suvir Will follow up with some Upma or so called tomato bath in the South. funcook
  25. I think you are right with the wine list being over priced and yes I would go back for dinner at any time especially when they have the PATANG day of celebrations and of course I will take my own wine. funcook
