  1. Not me, and since I'm a professional musician, supposed background music that's playing really softly on the sound system can distract me. But it's really interesting noise has that effect on you. Does noise also affect your ability to detect nuances in food?
  2. This week, all bets are off for me. Next week, Thursday (6/9) or Friday (6/10) are fine and dinner but not lunch on Saturday (6/11) is OK. I have gigs from June 15-18, including a Saturday matinee I'm missing my teaching job for, so that week is out. Available for dinner June 23-25. Starting on July 2, I may be available for lunch on Saturdays, too, but my schedule for those weeks is as yet undefined.

    DiFara Pizza

What toppings did you get at both places? If you go to Grimaldi's, go near opening time and order the sausage pie; it's amazing!
  4. I think that's totally legitimate because they'd have to agree to those terms in advance.
  5. I was thinking the same thing before I read you saying that. Be careful; we don't want you to end up on the injured reserve list.
  6. You reminded me: I used to like tomatoes only when cooked in a sauce, then only when cooked (broiled was OK). Now, I just plain like them (if they're good).

Closer to home, have you tried the pizza at Patsy's on 1st Av. between 117th and 118th? Have a look at the NYC Pizza Survey starting here. You may prefer that style of pizza, anyway. As you'll see, most of the attendees for the Pizza Survey did.
  8. Now, that's REALLY expensive! Enjoy your days, folks. I really enjoyed what both of you master entertainers presented yesterday. I hope you feel better, Sam, but it was funny to see your breakfast picture.
  9. Everything looks totally amazing! If you're still there, enjoy the rest of your stay.
  10. I'm essentially the same for me in the U.S., but when I get to Malaysia, one of the first things I want is some delicious Malaysian bananas. When they've ripened on the tree, they're really wonderful. At least, I think so.
  11. 35 Baht = 0.86741 US Dollars at current exchange rates, according to Yahoo.com's Currency Converter, so basically, 87 cents.
  12. What about the history of noodles in China, though? What do the archeologists and historians know about how long they've had 'em?

    Cholent

Thanks - I'm picking up on that. But you didn't tell me how to make a good cholent Michael ← I've never made cholent; sorry.
  14. There are things I used to hate or dislike but like fine now, but the only one I love I guess is dark meat chicken. Way back before I was 7 or so, I would eat only the skin of the chicken.

    Cholent

Never fear, the old stuff is just on later pages of the forums. And if you see a thread that hasn't been posted to in a long time and you'd like more discussion on it, just post to it.
  16. I forgot to mention that I hate raw oysters. I really find them disgusting.
  17. Marlene, the food looks great and so does the table! There was a lot of butter in that bread pudding, right?
  18. I like my fries completely plain, without salt (perhaps a bit of pepper). I've occasionally gone to Belgian-style fry places and had fun with their sauces, though.
  19. That's a really horrible story about Fuleen.
  20. All that means is that your server wasn't a Malaysian and has no idea how to speak or pronounce Malay.
  21. Whoa, all that seafood! I envy you two! I have some ideas of where to go if I should happen to get to New Orleans some time soon, though (sadly, that's not in the cards).
  22. Here, I agree with you. I would never tried to tell someone what to order, unless they asked for a suggestion. A more likely scenario is for me to ask what looks appealing to them on the menu or whether they've decided what they're getting.
  23. Marlene and Sam (ladies first ): I'm sure you and your guests had a wonderful time! Sam, I'm looking forward to an explanation of what German potatoes are.
  24. Me neither. I hardly ever eat hotdogs, either, and generally dislike hamburgers. But in any case, I never add ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise (unless homemade) to anything. That said, I love mustard seeds and can enjoy dishes that include any of those ingredients in their sauces. I've never liked any coleslaw except Katz's, though (even though I'm sure they use Hellman's or another commercial mayonnaise in it).
