I am going to Paris in 2 weeks. I am now quite intrigued by L'Astrance. If I had a chef from Ducasse call, would that be the best way for me to get a reservation? I do speak french fluently, but I am an "unknow American?" Is it even worth the hassle? Lauren

Hello all I just booked a cheap flight to Paris on May 13th. Eventhough I lived there and I have friends there, I would love some Ny'ers ( and others) favorite restaurants. I would like to have one nice meal, but I dont want to spend more than $80. Otherwise, if you would give me your favorite tucked away places, doesnt matter what arrondisment, can be anways, I d be so happy thanks everyone Lauren

katie the panna cotta was on the house and it was our original dessert choice, in addition since the pc was free, i opted for the lemon tart,, the rice krispie treat sundae just seemed too dull, though it looked good katie call me for other info,,,,,,,,,,,

Hello everyone I hope that everyone enjoyed the gorgeous day. Yesterday Herb from Philly met me in Philly for some fine dining. I had made a reservation at the Tasting Room a week before so that was our first stop. I had passed TR many times and had to break a previous reservation in the winter. In any case Herb and I made our way through the exciting food. As many of you know, there are sharing and tasting dishes. one of the first dishes was scallops with blood orange and tangerine with baby arugula and extra virgin olive. the scallops were very fresh and the tartness of the blood orange and the sweetness of the tangerine went very well. my only suggestion to the chef was that the fruit might be a tad bit colder than the scallops since they were served at room temperature. texturally, i then there were baby oysters with a salmon caviar( i think it was salmon). greatt flavors, saltiness of the caviar went nicely with the texture of the oyster. next was the cod which was placed with peas, pearl onions and pistachios in a chateau challont reduction the braised smoked bacon slab was served on a puree of ramp greens, and had pickled ramp tops green garlic , the sauce was maple syrup balsamic vinager and brown butter and was incredibly flavorful and rich we had a lovely cheese plate, served with arugala pesto, grapes and honey. i wish i could recall the names of the cheeses, but it was an assortment of cow and goat cheese. desserts, incredibly interesting, a panna cotta with vinagrette along with a sweet basil syrup and fresh fruit the panna cotta was lovely and dense and the saly vinagrette and basil blended very well together I also had a lemon butter tart served with creme fraiche whipped cream and caralized fennel. the tart was tart indeed and the creme fraiche evened out the tartness. As for the fennel, i was shocked that it could become so sweet As for wines i had a reisling, Herb, you ll have to write exactly what we drank, as I am horrible with wines. all in all, I got to sample lots of great creative food and the prices was very reasonable. . They have a really lovely staff, I highly recommend it Next meal was at Le Gamin, i had a crepe with mushrooms and gruyere topped with a rosemary sprig and had a side of creme fraiche. i have always loved the environment there. After living in Paris, i really feel that they have the creperie down right. they serve loving big bowls of cafe au lait and fresh pain au chocolat as well, Dinner, I had to take Herb to Ino since he ahd never been. I had a truffled egg toast. dense, and rich. The egg yollk oozes out and has the greatest flavor of the fontina cheese and the truffle oil. Herb had a egg salad and asparagus tramezzino. I also highly recommend any of the bruschetta , especially the asparagus, truffle oil and parmasan. They used to have a great white bean soup with roasted tomato. ok, i m full just thinking about all the food we ate. I also took Herb to Ceci Cela, where I think they have the best crossants in the city, downtown that is.

After a great meal at the Ethiopian restaurant, Ghenet on Mulberry street, as we were literally paying our bill , I watched in disgust as a huge cockroach crawled up the wall and,,,, well it was at a restaurant, but often i ll buy frozen spinach to keep on hand in case well, i want spinache, as i was eating the last bite I bit into something un spinach like,, since I was in my kitchen, i spit it out to see what it was,, turned out a lovely little bug had made his way into the freezing process and grossly enough he was still full of some awful flavor, my friend chef at Ducasse said thats what i get for buying frozen,,,, it was Birds Eyes !

After years of passing by babbo and lovingly gazing at the menu and even living two doors down from it, I finally went. I had been inside several times, just to take a peek at the decor, so the atmosphere was no surprise, and i wasnt shocked either at the fabulosu attentive service since it is a Batali restaurant. I sat down thinking I would; have wine and an appetizer and ended up having a full meal including two desserts, yup, two desserts, i just cuoldnt decide The waiter or gentleman behind the bar was wonderful and informative. AFter 15 of deciding what to order, I settled on the goat cheese Sformato and the duck with chanterelle mushrooms and fava beans. The sformato was sinfully good. Even after lving in italy, i had never heard of it. It was a light custard like goat cheese sitting atop a bed of fresh pesto with grated parmasan all around. The texture was lovely as it wasnt too dense like a pann cotta, but just rahter airy, but still rich in flavor. The pesto added a nice kick to the goat cheese. I ordered a glass of Garda, after trying another red wine, but preferred the garda so went with that. The duck was unreal. It was so tender and full of flavor I barely had to chew. It was pan roasted and served atop chanterelle mushrooms and fava beans. chanterelle mushrooms are my favorite and they went very well with the duck. There was a rich red sauce and I m not quite sure if that was its own jus or something else, but it was just incredible.- i ll have to ask and write back. now desserts have always been my favorite. there were lots of creative options like the pineapple crostata or ricotta cheesecake with blackberry jam. I went with the banana walnut budino and the toasted almond upside down cake. The banana walnut budino was served warm, but the consistency was a bit odd. It was crowned with carmalized bananas and buttermilk gelato which was excellent. the toasted almond upside cake was served with expresso gelato and had cherries on top. the flavors were great but this one seemed a tad bit dry. have to say that although bother were good, I wasnt in love with either. Il baguatto still makes the best italian desserts for me, like the torta della nonna! Right Michael? anyways, i enjoyed the experience very much. the restaurant itself was very warm and welcoming. I am so happy to have finally gone! off to Basso Este on saturday, the new italian joint on Orchard,, wil report back promptly! have a great weekend!

I had the great privalege of dining with Ron at March last Saturday and can agree that it was one of the finest meals I have had in NY. As Ron mentioned has the menu and the wine pairings, which he will post later. We met at the St Regis and I felt as though I was in some old 30's movie. Ron and I were clearly the youngest there which was rather amusing. I loved the dark ?walnut walls and dim lighting it was all very glamorous. March was incredible. From the moment we announced our desire to have the chef cook for us we were treated with service that was beyond my belief. The Captains, we had two assiting us could not have been nicer. They carefully explained each wine they brought with our courses and were so attentive to every little detail. My favorite part, since I have a sweet tooth, Ron let me choose our 3 desserts for the sampler. What arrived was every single one of the desserts, they said they didnt want us to miss any of them. THe best was the walnut tart, that had the perfect hint of honey in it. When I told them how much I loved it, I m sure I was slurring words at this point thanks to the 7 glasses of wine, they brought me out a second piece. On the way out, as we chattted w. our captains and thanked them profusely, one of them handed me a long stem red rose, ahhh:) It truly was an unforgetttable meal. thank you Ron for the lovely company and Lousiville GOSSIP!!! As I was walking west to meet friends for a drink, i noticed the location of the new restaurant Amuse,. and then it struck me that Tonic had really closed. I suppose the first assumption of a restaurant closing is due to bad business but I thought that Tonic was a really great place. Does anyone know what happened? I ll never have my banana tarte tatin again now

I unexpectedly and happily ate at Little Frankies or is it Little Franks on 1rst and 1rst. My friend and I chared a delicious prociutto and arugala pizza, very thin crust, not soggy. Prociutto was very flavorful. They have pasta specials every night. Fridays was an icredible rigatoni with mozzeralla, eggplant and spinache. I can not say enought good things about this. It was cooked to perfection, the top being a little crunchy from the melted cheese. they have a lovely garden inthe back too ok east post next L

Last saturday, i decided to escape the city and took the train to Brighton Beach. I walked from BB to Coney Island. There I found Nathans, i had been there several times before and never tried a dog. I found them to be very good, and I lovd the sitting area next to it. Also its a stones throw from the boardwalk... Fat guy: i really liked the great dane, i guess i like sweet things,,, thats always been the dog i get when i go to F and B,,,,, My heart still goes out to Grays Papaya, they may not be the greatest dogs but at 4am after a long night out, for $1 25 you can get two of your very own hmmmmmmmm hot dogs I am off to Yujin in a week yippee

when i was living in paris, i ate at a trendy , now closed restaurant called Korova. I enjoyed the food and the Clock work orange theme, but the service and staff was disgusting. after fighting with the hostess,, who told us that we had to be back on time, we were having drinks at Man Ray, she actually yelled at us when we returned 2 minutes late to a 1/4 filled restaurant. the water actually told us that we could not have tap water because there were no empty caraffes for it. i demanded to have the bottled water removed from the bill, and when they refused, we left no tip needless to say, I was very pleased that it had closed.

FROM DAILY CANDY: There's the Japanese restaurant. And then there's the Japanese-inspired one. Both serve raw fish. Both provide chopsticks. And both ply you with sake. So what's the difference? Originality, baby. Or so says Chef Eiji Takase of Yujin, which opens today on the Greenwich Village block littered with upscale spots like Gotham Bar & Grill and Strip House. To back up his claim, his menu offers starters like yellowfin-tuna ravioli and rock-shrimp dumplings. Main courses include grilled lobster onigarayaki, poached red snapper with tofu, and miso-marinated salmon. The space shows no trace of its former incarnation: a dreary Kinko's. In the place of the copiers and the hideous fluorescent lighting are beige suede banquettes, minimalist black-and-white furnishings, and a ceiling dangling 29,500 chopsticks. Japanese? Sort of. Inspired? Definitely. Yujin, 24 East 12th Street, between University Place and Fifth Avenue (212-924-4283). I dont know this chef at all, has anyone heard anything?? lauren

First of all, MOGSOB, I am not French, jeunefilleparis, is merely a screen name, I live in NY and I am American. I have been eating steak my entire life. The steak I had at PL was RARE and not medium SO MY OLD FRIEND, I , did not actually screw up. . I have also had other cuts at Strip house and at A &M. I found the PL steak to be lacking flavor quite honestly. That was one dinner, I did not say that every single steak they make is horrible. I do eat my meat bloody as hell, you should maybe get all the facts straight before you go on some stupid rampage

i live in NYC,but i was raised in Philly. i would go to Striped bass early for oysters, they are unreal. I love FIGS for moracan, its located in the fairmount area. GENOS and PATs are overrated,i m sorry, i live for the cheesesteaks at Ishkabibbles on south street across from the TLA theatre what else PASIONE is the best latin food on the east coast, ten times better than Patria. I also love Magazine, its a cozy little place and their mussles are great as well as their desserts. brassier perrier has great food, but its pricey. CHECK OUT the MUTTER MUSEUM its very eerie and fun and definately get tix to DEGAS
