  1. excellent soup dumplings!and super cheap too
  2. I have several friends who are chefs at ADNY and they have not mentioned such news, but, I will ask,,,,,,,,also, AD's new place is scheduled to open in september.
  3. i actually avoided bars in college and started going to expensive restaurants instead
  4. what i was pointing out was that just because you know one friend who has cancer doesn't mean that second hand smoke caused it. the lungs act as a very good filter for those around smokers. they should be thanking the smoker. i'm not sure what you're getting at with this point, though. perfume does the same to me. I guess you never learned in science class that smoke and other polluntants kills cilia, those little hairs that line your lungs and nose, they catch dirt and other harmful agents in the air, when they die, those poisons are able to attack your body, <>http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artjun99/bacilia.html i cant believe seemingly intelligent people cant see that nicotine is addictive and is poisonous.
  5. they are not assumptions, bourdain, they are simply possibilities you can blame this law for making a single mother jobless as much as i can blame bush for spending all the money on war instead of putting out in the economy and making more jobs for recent college grads and other out of work people. people lose jobs all the time for one reason or another, is it unforunate that she is out of a job and needs to find another way to support her and her family, yeah, but so are a lot of people
  6. i know a hundred people who grew up with smoking parents. none are in chemo. presenting assumption as fact doesn't advance ones argument, and it's a tactic often used in emotional discussions like this one. I think that what you said, about none of your friend being in chemo, simply means that depending on immune systems, and cells in bodies, people have different dispositions to smoke. when someone smokes cigarettes, they smoke through a filter first, inhaling poison, hten they exhale and are constantly breathing in both from the cigarette and their air supply around them. i have had sinus surgery three times, and i can tell you that in college when i would go out to bars, my sinuses would literally close off and i would only be able to breathe through my mouth, dont tell me that second hand smoke is innocent of causing damage, its not
  7. superfine is a hip restaurant in the area, however, nearby are river cafe, bridge cafe and the chinese icecream factory:)
  8. yes non stop, newark, nj to paris france:))))))))) 9 days and counting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  9. i ll be in paris as of may 13th, for Gagnaire, should i make a lunch reservation before i leave or is it relatively slow during the week? Lauren
  10. i'm not sure there are any hard facts and numbers on how much second hand smoke is costing the government and healthcare per year. in fact, i know there aren't. i'd be more than happy to read some, thoughm as i don't like paying for other peoples' hobbies. I dont know exact numbers either, but come on, you dont think that second hand smoke causes cancer? I know a girl who did not smoke and she grew up with both parents smoking, shes in chemo now,,,,,,,,,,its poison, its pretty simple. i dont know why people make it out like they re munching on carrots, its poison, plain and simple. vive le non smoking!
  11. well, if our government made men pay child support or people used condoms or didnt have babies when the couldnt afford them, or offered education for people without money , she wouldnt have to have a job as a waitress in the first place,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and now, maybe when she isnt getting chemo for her chemotherapy that she cant afford, since MR BUSH is cutting health care as we speak, she ll be happy. yeah, some businesses are going to suffer from this law, but in the long run, do you not see a connection between smoking and cancer and the fact that that costs the government and healthcare millions a year........... Maybe there will be smoking bars in the future, I think that wuold be fair to people who like to poison themselves and have no self respect, but I could care less if they have to smoke outside in the street now
  12. then i guess i ll be busy on the phone post 11
  13. Last sunday night, wanting a drink in a non bar bar,I went to Annisa. The gentleman at the bar was a doll. I had a pink lemonade and if I had had 2 more,i wouldve been rolling back from Barrow to Macdougal. He also was testing a new drink they have, a new take on a Pink slipper, was that the name,so he gave me that one on the house. i stole a glance at the menu and it looked as good as always, i haven t been in a 1.5 yrs, I need to go back to taste their spring/summer menu!
  14. In Spain this was true, at least it was five years ago. Everyone smoked everywhere - it was so pervasive and guilt free that even though I had quit, I smoked on the trip just because we could. There is a town near us, Friendship Heights, MD, that has considered making it illegal to smoke outdoors, not just in public buildings. when smoking is illegal outdoors, i will take everyone to Ducasse~ Cool, when can are we going? Outdoor smoking law passes. ok, let me rephrase that, when people actually abide by the "20 ft"from door rule,(which leaves me wondering, will they smoke in the middle of the street? ) hehe, then its hi ho hi ho off to Ducasse we go,,,,,,,,,lalalalla
  15. << The Daily News gossip column on Thursday said Princess Caroline of Monaco lit up at the trendy Le Cirque eatery recently. "Nobody had the nerve to tell her to put out her cigarette," one observer told the tabloid.>>> well of course Royalty can do what they want..............

  17. hi all I was reading conde nast's hot list and they mentioned the new Ducasse restaurant. has anyone been there yet or read any reviews, i d like to check it out when i m in Paris in May,,,,, i cant imagine its anything less than excellent, but i m curious to hear about it before i rush over! thanks lauren
  18. Best I can do for September so far is $750; Did you use Priceline or Hotwire or any of those "blind" bidding services? I don't think that fare is available anymore. It was on Cheaptickets.com. Might try Continental. basically on saturday i called every travel agency in the voice,,,,, i can give you the guys number if you want to call him,,,212 629 9002, his office is on 7th ave and 33rd street!
  19. Last May I ate at Bouley for my college graduation dinner. Most of the meal was exceptional but my entree was awful, It was a buttermilk poached chicken. It tasted like hospital food, it could not have been blander. I didnt want to cause a scene, seeing as it was my graduation, but I did send it back and got a great entree, though it escapes me, and we recieved an extra dessert too. The service at Bouley was quite exceptional. Though the enviroment for me was a bit too much, I like more minimalistic decor, the ceilings were interesting though and I liked the green apples that lined the walls in the entranceway!
  20. you don't honestly think that smokers don't smoke at home but rather smoke elsewhere so as to not stink up their homes, do you? well, smokers i know have told me this, so well, yeah some do i m sure
  21. katieeeeeeeeeeee when is the next SK dinner, i want in , i m sick of hearing about these fab meals, take me to your maker:)

  23. oh my god, after all these years, my dream will soon be reality, who wants to go and try everything?>> i m game
  24. i live on macdougal st, between minetta tavern and off the wagon,,,, i thought it was bad enough to have people screaming in line all night watiing ito get into cafe wha, but this is worse, which isnt to say that i dont liked the smoking ban, because i actually ADORE it, my dry cleaning bills are down and i dont have congested sinuses ,,,,why cant smokers jus smoke at home, oh yea, thats right, they dont want to stink up their own houses, but they ll do it everywhere else,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  25. awww I m blushing, gee Michael,, well, i really couldnt tell ya, but since I m 24, i d say it mainly has to do with metabolism, but my friends will tell you that since i have no problem walking from avenue A to hudson st, that could help too, i also live in a 5 floor walk up. while Herb and I ate at le gamin and ino, we noticed the opening of AOC, where boughlahem ( is that spelled anywhere near correctly?) the menu looked quite tasty, i m not sure how much i dug the new decor, but the owner was very kind. I forget what AOC stands for exactly,i ll have to ask again when i m at ino! Anyone been yet? Lauren
