  1. Just checking to see if there were any survivors....
  2. A depanneur is a local convenience store. While it is good that we are able to buy wine at the corner store, they are not allowed to sell good wine. The wines that they sell are imported in bulk and bottled here. Even the best depanneur wines are pretty bad.
  3. long overdue!
  4. Welcome to eGullet! If memory serves me correctly the Kon Tiki was in what is now les Cours Mont Royal... We used to get hammered on the "Polynesian" drinks in the funny cups. Can't recall ever eating the food though
  5. wasn't it called Pam Pam?
  6. Another omission is the old Atlantic Pavillion which in its' heyday (the 1970's and 80's) was fantastic.

  12. Dick Chen on Victoria. Dick was one of the early Chinese chefs in Montreal and opened up in his duplex on Victoria. Delicious home cooked asian food complete with his kids riding their tricycles through the dining room.
  13. oops I was there a few years ago and assumed that since it had been open since the dawn of time it would continue forever.... Whatever happened to the space....great oyster bars along both sides.
  14. Nope, still there! Try the Shrimp Nantua.....
  15. Sadly the Coffee Mill is gone along with all the rest of the great coffee houses of the day (Pam Pam, etc). I miss their Ludlab ang Rigo Janksi....
  16. Does anybody remember the tainted meat scandal of the 1970's and the televised hearings complete with wiretap evidence etc...... Nuff said.
  17. I miss Matty's / Mykonos on de la Montagne. They made a lamb cooked in yoghurt and garlic that was out of this world.....
  18. There is a lot more to Quebec culture than poutine and Celine Dion!
  19. Montreal does indeed have thousands of excellent and inexpensive restaurants in addition to a number of restaurant chains where crap is sold for high prices. If I am not mistaken you started the thread to see if there were any restaurants doing stratosheric numbers a la FL rather than to ask about good inexpensive local eateries.
  20. read this
  21. ah the infamous "zapping" software rears its' ugly head again.... Same thing happened at the Nickels chain a few years back. I guess will confuse those who think that all the restaurants on St. Laurent are there to launder cash rather than pocket it!
  22. Went there with a friend tonight...very tasty, well worth a return visit.
  23. I'd venture a guess that there are very few restaurants in North America that do those numbers (with the same seating capapcity).... However, very few restaurants regardless of size volunteer their sales figures so we have no way of knowing what Montreal restaurants are pulling in..l.
  24. Hotel Godin perhaps?
  25. $17.90 Canadian (approx. $13.75 US) at saq.com the Quebec Liquor Board
