  1. why not send them an email and see who the agent is for your area? Chateau.les.crostes@wanadoo.fr
  2. On a good night the venison onglet at Pied de Cochon can be worthwhile. Another good bet is the steak frites at the Tavern on the Square.
  3. ooops, wrong election...my bad (but whenever I think of a Member of National Assembly I think federal...I am old enough to remember when Quebec was considered a province rather than a nation).
  4. You might want to wait a few days. Something tells me that your MNA this week won't be your MNA next week
  5. The last time I went there were tickets that you could buy for a dollar or two apiece and exchange for tastes from the different exhibitors. Prices ranged from a ticket or two for a glass of plonk up to 20 or so tickets for a glass of Grange or Cos... My recommendation would be to avail yourself of the spit buckets....I didn't and ended up buying a lot more wine than I had expected 'cause I was feeling groovy! At the last event you could pick up your purchases on the spot or have them delivered to the SAQ of your choice. I chose the latter option and had to wait several weeks for the vino (they were actually delivered the next day but the outlet took forever to call me to let me know that they had arrived).
  6. Since wine seems to be such a heated issue of late... The 2006 Salon des Vins will take place at the Palais des Congres. Many of the the top agents will be exhibiting and many of the "boutique" agents seem to be absent. salon des vins
  7. what are the correct pairings for seal, walrus, and/or beluga?
  8. You might also call Cafe Ferreira and ask about the capacity of the upstairs dining room.
  9. Tavern would be great for a party of that size. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable.
  10. Le Latina does indeed carry it but the price is a hefty $34.99!
  11. Cuisine Gourmet opened yesterday. A first glance confirms that this is a very nice store indeed. Perhaps not the selection that you might find at an Ares or Monas but they have pretty much everything that a home cook could ever want.
  12. While Lesley is correct about the long term preservation of blocks vs. pistoles, I can attest to the fact that the 3kg tub of pistoles does not last very long because the size of the pistoles is perfect for what my wife would call frequent quality control experiments. In other words, they make a perfect snack whenever you need a chocolate fix.
  13. La Cucina closed about 2 years ago.
  14. There is a new store about to open on de Maisonneuve between Drummond and Stanley (in the premises of the now defunct Le Drummond) which promises to be quite interesting. The upstairs will be a gourmet cooking store featuring high end products such as All-Clad, etc. The downstairs which will open somewhat later (Spring 06) will feature prepared foods. This should prove a welcome addition to the downtown core and well timed for the arrival of all the new condos being built on De Maisonneuve and Le Roc Fleuri on Drummond.
  15. Alas, the only high I get these days comes from chocolate....but at least I know where to get the good stuff!
  16. proving once again that spelling is very important with recipes.....lest one confuse ingredients!
  17. Ummm, ganja and chocolate for cooking...I think that type of brownie recipe is against the law, n'est ce pas?
  18. You can indeed buy Amedei in Montreal. It is available at Les Douceurs du Marche and other outlets. If I am not mistaken, the importer of Amedei is a part owner of Bu.
  19. Had a very nice dinner at Joe Beef ce soir, it was great to see Dave smiling and happy. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was cool!

    BYOW

I have never really been a huge byob fan but decided to give a l'os a try last night with a friend. We both enjoyed the signature bone-in filet mignon but the real focus of our meal was the wine. I brought along a '97 Mondavi Special Reserve Cabernet and my friend brought a '95 Caymus. When you think that the wine alone would have cost more than $1,000 at any restaurant that carries them, dinner was a steal. (btw. Queue de Cheval has the Mondavi on their website for a mere $600 a bottle!). I don't think that I would go to a byob with a bottle of Cuvee du Depanneur to save a few bucks but I thought that the meal last nice was a great compliment to 2 fantastic bottles of wine.
  21. The SAQ Signature is having a huge sale and have slashed prices! Get there quickly before the '89 Yquem is all gone....price has been dropped from $1,095 to a mere $985......or perhaps the 3 litre bottle of '98 Caymus Special Selection would be great for that huge family BBQ...a steal at $990 (down from $1100).
  22. They are both from the 2000 vintage..... I also note the price difference between Beringer 1998 Alluvium which is a personal favourite. $55 ici, $39.95 la bas..... I wouldn't mind a few dollars but when we're talking 30 or 40 percent differences it becomes a tad much....
  23. In the Gazette on Saturday Malcolm A gave a great review to an amarone by Nicolis ("Ambrosan" SAQ inv. # 00896860) for a hefty $75 compared to $44.95 on the Ontario side of the 401 (LCBO inv. #598219).
  24. Believe it or not there are still a few street corners in Montreal that do not (yet) have a Starbuck's, Second Cup, Java U, Van Houtte, Cafe Select, Cafe Supreme, or Brulerie St. Denis!
  25. For better or worse the American chains will never come here because of our language laws which would require them to completely redo their packaging, etc.
