  1. The sad fact is that while many wonderful products have been brought into Montreal, they often do not sell enough to merit a second shipment. Let us not forget that if an importer cannot recoup his/her investment they drop the product. I greatly enjoyed that wonderful Italian blood orange juice that I bought a year or two ago but obviously not enough others bought the prodcut and it is no longer available here. As much as I love Whole Foods in Toronto, I'm not convinced that they would survive in Montreal.
  2. I hope that they learned from the first website that instead of having a website that is hard to change they shuld have a site where the online menu can be updated inhouse. Instead of spending a fortune on a fancy and static website, it would be smarter to aim for a website that actually reflects what the restaurant is serving this week (or season). Note to restaurant owners: some web savvy people might be willing to work for food!
  3. Let your fingers do the walking...try Monas on Parc Ave. 842-1421
  4. Fortunately, I have a wine fridge witha 220 bottle capacity. I only have a few dozen bottles that need a lot of ageing and therefore have more than enough to see me through the strike. What irks me is that I would be hard pressed to make a list of 140 grievances about life in general. If you have more than a dozen complaints about your job, find another one!
  5. Where is the other one???/
  6. I was given a bottle as a gift. It is not too bad when compared to Red and certainly better than Black or Chivas for that matter. However, I cannot understand why people don't just experiment more with single malts until they find one that appeals.
  7. either! I'd clean my paint brushes with Johnny Red if I wasn't afraid of ruining them...
  8. Looking at the Beer section, I enjoyed the discussion on "worst" beers and was wondering if anyone had ideas as to the "worst" blendsed whiskies..... I nominate Johnny Walker Red Label.
  9. "Generous" might be too kind a word in that even at the revised $96.00 Cdn price, the 200 Dogtown Zin is still over %50 higher than the average $50 US asking price South of the border......

    Worst Beer Ever Tasted

I just tried the new Sleemans Low Carb beer......ouch. If you don't like carbs, don't drink beer!
  12. Michel was an early chef at La Louisianne before moving to digs on Dummond St (Van Gogh?) and eventually ending up at Benedicks on Monkland which just closed.
  13. In my experience at Brunoise (and I have been there many times) I have never had anything less than excellent food and service. Zach, Michel & cie. try to offer an excellent experience in fine dining at more than reasonable prices.
  14. So I guess the obvious question is whether the cheeses were in fact terrible or rather not to your taste? In other words is it a question of "I know what brie tastes like and this is lousy brie" or "I've never tried Limburger before and based on this this first taste, I'll never try it again"..... Enquiring minds want to know!
  15. I have tried several vintages of Moulin Touchais and must admit that most are not that exciting but some are not too bad. For some reason the Quebec liquor board seems to like the brand and stocks vintages going back to 1959.
  16. I've had some nice Coteaux du Layon by Moulin Touchais and Philppe Delesvaux but nothing beats a good bottle of Baumards' Quarts de Chaume
  17. One of the best burgers that I've ever tasted was at a family party at Auberge du Pommier several years ago. The "adult" food was excellent as one would expect but the kids meals were GREAT!
  18. In that there are usually three sides to every story, isn't there something just a little "wrong" with slamming a restaurant (or a cheese shop for that matter) publicly without trying to resolve the conflict with management beforehand? If I had a waiter who refused to bring me some garlic (or salt, pepper, water, etc.) I would probably ask to speak to the manager. If the manager turned out to be as useless or antagonistic as the waiter, then I would have fewer qualms about making my accusations public. Once the complaint is out there for the whole world to see, the mangement is placed in a no win position. Even on the stinky cheese thread the conflict was handled more tactfully, but it took six weeks to resolve what could have been easily handled quickly and privately with a phonecall. just my $.02
  19. You can't go wrong with Brunoise but I'll also second Lesley's recommendation of La Bastide. I had dinner there on Saturday night and while I always enjoyed Jean-Francois' cooking at Le Club des Pins, his new work is amazing.
  20. If memory serves, you have to provide the SAQ with the name, address and contact info for the winery as well as the type of wine and quantity that you wish to purchase. If the wine Gods are smiling, the SAQ will purchase the wine on your behalf and charge you for the wine, shipping and markup.

    Quebec Ice Cider

it is dangerous to assume, even more so because they already said Canadian dollars. Of course we Canadians are always happy to accept US dollars at par.

    Quebec Ice Cider

Why not call them and ask if they have a US distributor? The number is (450) 298-1222 pinnacle

    White or Red?

red for dinner, white (& sticky) for dessert (or instead of dessert).... but most definately red (I think )
  25. The plywood door is still in place (as is the paper in the windows). I hope Carl can get the place re-opened soon and I also hope he has good insurance including business interuption. This is a very sad event. Le Club des Pins has been one of my favourite dining spots for years (dating back to the days of Martin Picard).
