Syrup on eggs. ::shudder:: If I order a breakfast platter, the pancakes or waffle had better be on a seperate plate.

Cue Twilight Zone music. I flipped on the TV last night as background noise while folding laundy. What the hell was on but an "Unwrapped" special about - you guessed it - corn dogs. Freaky.

I have two of their cookbooks. The recipes work, and everything we've tried was delicious. Loved their show, especially when they talked smack about vegetarians.

OK, so, am I the only one who likes their roast? Every time I drink "medium" roasted coffee it tastes overwhelmingly sour. With their darker roast I taste sweet, caramel notes.

I'm glad to hear that. We went for dinner a couple of months ago and our waiter actually argued with us against ordering that dessert because he didn't like it. It was a little insulting to have our judgement questioned like that.

Where can I get some of that?

Here is a recent article in the Washington Post about how some schools in our area are working to improve school lunches.

Someone mentioned personal biochemistry and it made me think: What about supertasters? You might argue that it takes them a couple of cigarettes to bring their palates DOWN to the level of the non-smoking chef who prepared the food.

Wrong thread. I felt I should confess. Every sandwich recipe in my old Fanny Farmer cookbook starts out with well-buttered bread. Gross.

Yucko: Mayo on corned beef, or even worse, pastrami Ketchup on hot dogs Bottled "taco" sauce Mayo on french fries I also hate ranch dressing - at least the bottled kind. I recently tried making my own (think it fresco who posted a recipe) and it was terrific. I like ketchup on scrambled eggs

I may be able to get a dispensation for Wednesday since Scott in going out on Monday and having friends over on Tuesday. Friday is out of the question though, as it's our anniversary. Sorry to hear about the illness, Mike. Could it have been the Grand Marnier? Firefly would be great.

I love it. Perfect for Christmas stockings. And the Coconut Almond is available at our local scoop shop, but I've never seen it at the grocery. It's really good too.

I have a hard time finding my favorite - Coffee Heath Bar Crunch. And another fave, Rainforest Crunch, got discontinued several years ago. One I didn't like for many years but I'm warming to now is Chunky Monkey.

Thursday dinner: Meatloaf. Used all beef, with minced green peppers, minced onions, worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and thick sliced bacon on top for seasoning. Baked for an hour, the broiled for 5 mins to crisp the bacon. I had never put bacon on my meatloaf before - it was delicious. I cannot wait for a cold meatloaf sandwich tomorrow. Sides were steamed zucchini and rice. No time for anything more interesting.

Nice to know there's something halfway decent down in that neighborhood. I lived there for two years and had better meals at the Negril takeout than I ever had at Hogates, or Phillips, or whatever was down there at the time. We occasionally go to Arena Stage, so a dinner option other than the theater concessions is a plus.

The Ultimate Spilling Food On Yourself Topic

*raising hand* Yep. Same problem. Another one here. My most embarrassing stains happened when I was pregnant. I stopped at Starbucks every morning for a decaf, and almost always bumped my huge stomach on the condiment bar. It seems that no one is able to put milk or sugar in their coffee without spilling it. Most days my shirts had a lovely mocha line just out of my line of sight. The night before Emma was born Scott took me to a nice restaurant, sort of a last-meal-out-before-having-to-get-a-sitter kinda thing. I ordered a very drippy pasta and was at least two feet from my plate. You get the idea. After the first disastrous bite I was the only one there with my napkin tucked into my shirt. -
Well, at least Mike and I didn't get obliterated - tho we did our best for a "school night." Matchbox is a great little place. I loved the white prosciutto pizza last night almost as much as my son did for breakfast this morning. Friendly bar service, and a fine little by-the-glass wine selection. That said, I must go back to R.F.D. pronto (click and scroll down for the tap list). They have lambic on tap. Three kinds. And their tap selections are avaible in three ounce tastes as well as by the glass. We were scheming about an egullet food and beer tasting sometime in the future. Walking to the metro I noticed a "Hooters To Go" across the street but didn't check it out. Maybe next time.

I'm in. I may be a little later than 6:45, depending on the trains.

So is this gig still on? I might be up for the drive in from 'burbs if so.

I dunno. I'm a feminist and I love pornography. I didn't the the two were mutually exclusive either...

She really sticks in my craw as well. One of the shows had a horrible pun in it, like Weir Cooking Now or something similar. [click] ~Tad She's much much too smiley, but her recipes are fantastic. And her show is Weir Cooking in the Wine Country, I think.

Not me. Never watched it and probably never will. I can't even remember when the shows I like are on, never mind tuning into some reality train wreck. That said, I have enjoyed the hell out of this thread. It's nice to be able to have a pop culture experience vicariously.

Am I the only one who really likes Bayless? He doesn't bother me at all, and I dig the pukka shell necklace he wears sometimes. He comes off as sincere, and he knows his stuff.

Last night: Tournedos de porc a la Charcutiere - boneless pork cutlets with white wine, tarragon, savory, capers, cornichons, heavy cream, and butter, from Parisian Home Cooking by Michael Roberts. Lighter than it sounds. We have made this so often that the cookbook opens to that page. Steamed rice and asparagus. Trimbach Pinot Gris. Went nicely with the pork. Dessert: The Chewy We went out for a quick meal tonight because my daughter had a doctor appointment at 4pm. Mediocre hamburgers at a weird chain called Cheeburger Cheeburger. Underseasoned patties with decent toppings + faux diner atmosphere + greasy onions rings + goofy name inspired by a 70's comedy routine + bad 80's dreck music (Culture Club during dinner ) = Indigestion.

Count me in among the mackerel lovers. And that scallop maki sounds pretty damn good too.
