  1. A fascinating wine from a dynamic winemaker. Kudos for having the guts to put it in the store.

I've found the Felline a little erratic - try the A-mano for a more reliable a fruity style. You need to go for maximum fruit and minimum tannin. Tannin and spicy are a bad match. Some other thoughts on wines that should be available to you: Saintsbury Garnet Pinot Noir Drouhin Beaujolais Villages DeLoach Gewurztraminer Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc/Viognier Delicato Syrah Marietta Old Vine Lot 31 (red) Sanford Sauvignon Blanc Hogue Late Harvest Riesling (med. sweet) Chateau Moncontour Vouvray (not great but reliable/available and it has to be better than B&G)

Is southern Indiana ready for prosecco?
  4. 0+0=0 except on TV where it equals a very slick and well-produced zero.
  5. Right on.
  6. I could not agree more. As much as I don't approve of these wines they are not poison. I would drink any of these bottles at some remote Holiday Inn and be happy to have them to improve my almost certainly dismal meal. What's wrong with making a living.
  7. These wines are very well made plonk. What is wrong with them is you can buy better plonk at half the price. What is more off-putting to the new consumer than getting ripped off. If you want people to be relaxed and have a good time with wine they should be able to buy good wines for a reasonable cost instead of paying for all the hype and advertising that got these wines in Target and on TV in the first place. Half the cost of the wines Immer is selling goes to promotion not winemaking.
  8. ... and let's get off the personal stuff. It is very apparent that this is an good topic that will only be ruined by offhand personal remarks. Mark and jddoyle - shake hands and come back out fighting. You both have good points.
  9. Popcorn does not require pairing - any old wine will do. To imply that any sort of pairing is required other than the bottle at hand in the frig does not demystify wine - just the opposite. It implies that there is a "right" wine for popcorn. Thank God someone is using their years of experience to tell us which wine brings out the nuances in popcorn.
  10. Oregon pinot and pan-roasted salmon - natural partners.

    The Wine Clip

Would everyone who is getting the clip contact Alex by PM so that he can organize the test.

    The Wine Clip

Since a lot of people seem to have been sent The Wine Clip it is only fair we put together a fair test including all. First will everyone who is getting one PM me so that I know who is participating. We will need a chairperson and then we need to set a standardized test (same wine?) Let's get this going in the direction of how and when it will be tested. Chair volunteers? Nominations?
  16. The Soave DOCG is not being just ignored by top producers - it is causing a revolt. Soon the best wines of Soave won't even carry the DOC. However you will see a lot of DOCG Bolla Soave.
  17. It often seems to me that wine recommendations in cookbooks are added as an afterthought. Do you believe that it is more useful to the reader to include specific recommendations for individual recipes or is more effective to include a more general chapter about food and wine matching?
  18. The brothers have walked the line between modern technology and faith in traditional indigenous varietals beautifully… Please follow the link to Raccolta: a weekly Italian wine harvested by Craig Camp – 2001 Novaia Valpolicella Classico Superiore, I Cantoni

Dear Mr. Lynch, You sir are a man of your convictions and are to be complimented for putting your reputation on the line. I would suggest we select three veteran tasters to conduct this test and report back. I would nominate: Docsconz Florida Jim Mark Sommelier as our committee that will test your product with an open mind and report back their honest opinions. If all are in agreement I will have them contact you. Once again my compliments for standing up for your product. Best regards, Craig Camp
  20. The next time you toast the memory of Jerry Garcia, you can toast him with his own signature wine.
  21. Fall is in the air and the "crush" is already under way in the wine country. With all the excitement over the wine, verjus, a delicious byproduct of the wine-making process, often is overlooked.
  22. Me too... just not so sure about buying it.
  23. Tedeschi is an excellent producer and the 99 Monte Olmi is a spectacular wine - dramatic and powerful
  24. Both Pasqua and Bolla produce really innocuous Valpolicella. These wines are based on vines on the flat plain instead of the hills and they squeeze every grape out of them that the can. As a result the wines are thin. Good basic Valpolicella is produced by many at reasonable prices and I cannot think of a good reason for buying these two wines. Bolla does make some good special bottlings of Amarone. The 79 Masi is probably on the edge and could be tired - although I have never had a Campofiorin that old and it could surprise.
  25. Randall may we all extend our thanks to you for an exciting and illuminating Q and A. We appreciate the time you devoted to eGullet and hope that you decide to return often for a chat.
