Yes, I did a double take on the frozen peas! But I suspect they were better than mushy peas.

Much depends on [where are you had] dinner! Given that I left Great Britain in 1958, that I was a teenager at the time and that I came from a working class background in the Midlands, I have been searching my memory with respect to seasonings and condiments that I recall being used by my family. I have no recollection of any cookbooks other than Mrs. Beeton.

I am not your sister. I’m sure she loves you dearly. I’m not even a doctor. I don’t even play one on eG. But I do prefer to consult accredited sources. When I find them I like to bold the weasel words. This paper was published in 2018 but my doctor has not yet suggested beetroot to replace my medications. But I am quite sure the press jumped on it. I remain grateful that unlike grapefruit, beets continue to show up on my menu. “This review was able to demonstrate that BRJ supplementation is a cost-effective strategy that might reduce blood pressure in different populations, probably through the nitrate/nitrite/nitric oxide (NO3−/NO2−/NO) pathway and secondary metabolites found in Beta vulgaris. This easily found and cheap dietary intervention could significantly decrease the risk of suffering cardiovascular events and, in doing so, would help to diminish the mortality rate associated to this pathology. Hence, BRJ supplementation should be promoted as a key component of a healthy lifestyle to control blood pressure in healthy and hypertensive individuals. However, several factors related to BRJ intake (e.g., gender, secondary metabolites present in B. vulgaris, etc.) should be studied more deeply.” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6316347/pdf/biomolecules-08-00134.pdf

Thanks for this. I grew up on baked beans on toast. Always from a can, always Heinz. Somewhere along the way I lost the taste for beans of any sort except fresh green beans and giant butter beans (when served in a lamb casserole) — beans so lamby they stopped being beans. All things considered between beans on toast and spaghetti on toast it is a wonder that the four of us survived our childhoods. I, too, have never heard of malt vinegar on beans.

Apparently it did not shake the medical profession to its roots. It was published back in 2013. I’d much prefer beetroots to BP meds.

Very strange on the oils. I just did a search on the online stores available to me and Pam is readily available. edited to add: maybe it’s a regional thing because both of these are available to me from multiple sources.

Smoked turkey leg might make a good option here.

So I placed my first online grocery order since January 2020 and it was delivered today. I was astounded to discover a tray of uncooked meatballs. And therein lies the problem of online ordering. It would never have happened if I had been personally in the store. What I thought I had ordered were fully cooked, frozen meatballs. No one to blame but myself and the pandemic. Soon they will be fully cooked, frozen meatballs.

Once we can shop openly and browse properly if I were you I would pop into HomeSense with your tape measure. You will be amazed at what you might find. It may take more than one visit. @Kerry Bealand I have found numerous baking pans and such that fit the CSO.

Oh my! Your salad looks so much more photogenic than the one on the site you linked to! I hope Williams-Sonoma doesn’t poach you from eG.

We should each aspire to be a Kerry Beal to someone!

I was hoping @Shelby will would come to your rescue but perhaps she is busy. As best as I can remember I used russet potatoes cut into chips. I soaked them in cold water for at least an hour. I drained them and then dried them with kitchen towel. I put them in a bowl and tossed them with a couple of tablespoons of olive oil then into the air fryer basket making sure that they were only one layer deep. Cooked in air fryer preheated to 375°F for 12 or 13 minutes. Tipped them out into a paper towel-lined bowl, sprinkled with salt and served them.

We already know that @Kerry Beal will be pushing as hard as she can to get needles into arms next week. Sitting in lunch did not seem very likely so Kerry picked up lunch today and brought it to my house. Both plates look pretty much the same but I decided to share them both anyway. We opted for a selection of Thai appetizers from a favourite restaurant. There is some crispy calamari, satay chicken, spring roll, summer roll and shrimp roll. My kind of eating.

Regardless of how off the mark we are I still think it is a miracle that I can be sitting here just outside of Toronto in North America chatting with somebody who is in China and getting almost an instant response.

The Arktek cooler. In parts of the world with limited electricity, even the cold-but-above-freezing temperatures are a challenge. To meet it, the Bill Gates-funded Global Good,1 science-hero arm of ex-Microsoft CTO Nathan Myhrvold’s Intellectual Ventures, built a solution. Their answer came to be called the Arktek, possibly the coolest cooler on Earth. Here

Battery failed for Kitchenaid KHB3581 immersion blender -- now what??
Anna N replied to a topic in Kitchen Consumer
Wow! A little googling around and it certainly seems that you are not the only one ready to tear out your hair. This was a mighty expensive hand blender. Edited to add They are still available for sale on bestbuy.ca for a mere $345! -
Never been quite so lucky as to have scallops that fresh! Guess we need to know more about the source of @TdeV scallops.
