Good luck with the walnuts! Now that the weather has cooled down here, I can go to TJ's later in the day and hopefully find the hash brown patties I haven't seen in six months.
-
I don't see it anymore either but I'm sure they used to have one for the Sous Chef. Maybe someone still has them in stock?
-
When I was researching this a few years ago, I thought they did have a dicing kit for the Sous Chef 16 since they didn't have the Paradice then.
-
Since these were mentioned here, I picked up a package when I was at TJ's this morning. Mine are crisp but I found the olive taste to be more subtle than I was expecting.

The frozen food truck comes in mid-morning. Staff says that people buy multiple packages at one time and they are quickly gone for the day. Supposedly, they are on allotment and can't get more than they do. Too hot here in the desert for me to shop anytime other than first thing in the morning so I will have to wait for cooler weather to get there later when they might be available. In the meantime, I've tried making my own but haven't come close to matching theirs. I've gone back to having my diced, fried, and seasoned potatoes with my eggs instead. As you mentioned, no MB here. Will have to look at the chain stores, if I remember!

Thanks for the suggestion, rotuts. I may try calling before my next trip and see if my store will do that. They told me that they are only allotted a certain quantity of that item and they always sell out quickly. In the meantime, I'm still feeling challenged to make my own hash brown patties that have the taste and texture that theirs do.

I like them too but unless I get there later in the day after their frozen food truck has been there, they're always sold out. It's too hot here in the Phoenix area for a non-driver to go out grocery shopping other than first thing in the morning so I'm out of luck until Fall. In the meantime, I've been making my own which don't compare with theirs, even though the only ingredients according to the package are potatoes, oil, and salt. Anyone have a recipe to emulate TJ's?

I use a Santoku knife when I dice. With my lack of knife skills, the flat bottom of the blade helps me keep things fairly straight and consistent. It took about ten minutes to dice 8 medium sized potatoes yesterday. I'll have to try a cleaver the next time and see how that goes.

I mainly dice potatoes. I had considered one of the machines that would dice but thought I'd first do it in the food processor in a 3-step process. Slice, slice in the other direction, and then stack the "french fries" vertically for the final dicing cut. It worked but the third step was tedious and time consuming. After doing this for awhile, I've gone back to dicing by hand. My knife skills aren't great but adequate for my purposes. And, considering clean-up time, faster than the 3-step food processor method. Still, these dicing machines look interesting but not necessary for me at this stage in life. I could have been "enabled" a few years ago but no more! 🙂

I use what may be a distant predecessor to your Black & Decker, a GE "Toast-R-Oven" that my grandmother bought in the 1960's. It still works perfectly and I use it for toasting bagels, and crisping up frozen and reheated items. It's small, quick-heating, and convenient. I use it for all the reasons you gave other than air frying since I don't think that had been invented yet.

I, too, have the model 14081. It was old when I got it and that was at least 25 years ago. I rather doubt that parts are available for it at this stage but it's held up well under the occasional use it gets.

Will miss her posts. Requiescant in pace.

I remember seeing Chinese restaurants with signs in front advertising "No MSG" so I figured it must be bad stuff. I've never used it myself but I may have some in the back of my seasoning shelf that my late wife may have used and I may revisit it.

This thread has got my curiosity up. I'm going to try and remember to look for some at the store the next I'm there.
