  1. I live in Manhattan. My friends and I are going to the winners concept regardless a week from today. As long as meatballs doesnt win ill be happy. south street seaport is a trek for me to get to. i really thought the location for ny would be times sq or near rockefella plaza, both touristy but also good for people who live in nyc. i read these recaps every monday. here is todays: http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2011/04/americas_next_great_restaurant_6.html
  2. I eventually want to open up a dessert spot that does just this. One of things i developed was dessert sushi. make rice krispie treats and spread them thin on parchment paper. You can fill them with whatever you want. I did one roll filled with candy bars. The other with fresh fruit. Then roll them as you would sushi and cut them as you would sushi as well. can sprinkle crushed cookies to look like the crunchy stuff or chocolate sauce to appear as eel sauce.
  3. if I want to use fresh fruit juices would you recommend filling the canister with fresh fruit juice as you would with water. or make seltzer then mix with fruit juice? Thanks
  4. I'd be ok with watching an all-stars with other chefs from past seasons. There were plenty of people who did not do this all stars that would have been worthy contenders. Maybe every other year to get a really good cast? Bravo to Richard for winning, and to Mike, Carla, and all the other chefs who really made a great show and name for themselves, I have a hard time believing any of them are losers even if they did not take the grand prize. Also, the challenges are getting better. If I watched it for 90 instead of 60 minutes though, I'd vote for the lion's share of that extra time devoted to discussing/watching the cooking. Especially in earlier episodes where there are just so many people. maybe if the show was 90 instead of 60 it can have a little bit of an iron chef aspect. where a commentator is on site during cooking and discusses cooking techniques that are being used.
  5. i just want to say i hate steve ells. he says he doesnt want a another chipotle. all of his critiques make the contestants concpets more like chipotle. for example telling suds u should make it like a taco so u can eat it with ur hands.
  6. I think Mike wins based on the preview. Padma looking to the right when she makes the announcement and showing blais standing on the right. The preview also had a line where Blais' emotions were of happiness based on the reviews of challenge. All good things for Blais, Mike was barely in the preview.
  7. i noticed that too, but you have to think they know that a lot of people would focus on that.
  8. im fine with fran leaving, its just wraps that concept is boring. i like melt works and i want to see more from chicken and waffles (dont want to see gumbo). i hate the taco guy, alex, hes such a scum bag.
  9. You can make a coconut milk ice cream and put them in mini coconut shells.
  10. yea i noticed he forgot him too. i kind of wish they kept him on for drama sake.
  11. http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2011/03/americas_next_great_restaurant.html very funny take on last nights ep
  12. im rooting for chicken and waffles, the third W i believe is from his last name. Like others have said, nyc has the meatball shop. if i want meatballs im going there. chicken and waffles sound the most interesting. lets go chix and waffles. im hoping we can get some asiago waffle with pulled pork.
  13. I was there that same night. They haven't missed a beat: the food is delicious as ever, and the whole experience a lot of fun. If any eGulleters in the area haven't been yet, definitely think about signing yourselves up for an upcoming night. Very nice to have them back! how do i sign up?
  14. If you want a second Keller experience I would switch Bouchon with Ad Hoc. Ad Hoc is more unique than Bouchon which is good (but not outstanding) French bistro food. In addition the Yountville location was for us the weakest in terms of service and food compared to Las Vegas and Los Angeles (and even those two can also be quite underwhelming sometimes) i love ad hoc. its one of my favorite restaurants in the world for its great atmosphere and good food. And the price is pretty unbeatable.
  15. i have it for ipad. its ok. when i first got it i played it a lot. now i dont play it any more. but its free so u should def try it out.
  16. i think this has been the best season of top chef so far. i was shocked when jen went home. talent wise shes in the top half. and i loved the last ep. since i live in nyc and have been to 3 quarters of those places it was very cool.
  17. Went to Danko. I can see why it got 1 star according to michelin. The dishes were mostly good. Some were really good, but all werent up to that level. The service was phenomenal though.
  18. i went to degustation last night and i loved it.
  19. my friend is hosting a party. 2 of us are helping out. One hosting is in charge of the space. Another person is in charge of alcohol. And im in charge of food. Im going with a theme called mini this mini that. It will be a collection of small things. ie mini tacos mini burgers mini soups. if u have any other suggestions for things that i can minify id take them. thanks

  23. Hammer. Its a lot of fun to bang things. I use it crush cookies. I have also used the cover of chapstick to make holes in mini linzer tart cookies.
