Hey! I met him recently: Creepy pantless guy in the woods, shaking his ass in "sexy" underwear. Told him to put his pants back on. Ignored me, so I called cops. Walked a woman out of the woods and met the cops. Walked around with cops for a while. Gave up and finished my walk, but when I emerged from the woods, he was in handcuffs. No, not "sexy" handcuffs.

gfweb's dog > rotuts cat Amaro Sibilia / dell'Erborista > bittersweet amari > Islay Scotch > Scotch > Gin Martini > Negroni / bittersweet cocktails > Daiquiri / sweetsour cocktails > Perfect Manhattan / sweet balanced cocktails > Old fashioned / Sweet cocktails > Gin & Tonic > water > vodka Have I offended everyone?

My 4 bottles: Gin Scotch (single malt) Dry vermouth (Dolin or Boissiere). Campari Gin & Tonic, Martini, Scotch neat (or rocks if you prefer), Scotch / dry vermouth / a touch of Campari or simple for something akin to a Rob Roy or Manhattan, Scotch Old Pal, Campari with Gin + lemon/lime, Campari Soda, Dry Negroni, vermouth plain (chilled, without ice, with a lemon twist), Gin on the rocks. Extra credit if your Scotch is an Islay.

I tried the Smoke & Mirrors with Linie aquavit and loved this drink. There isn't much (any?) anise in Linie -- it seems to be pretty pure caraway.

My attempt to make the Blood and Sand into a good drink: 1 oz Scotch (single malt -- I used Balvenie Golden Cask) 3/4 oz Punt e Mes 3/4 oz Cheery Heering 3/4 oz Amer Boudreau (mine is high proof, low sugar, and very, very bitter) 3/4 oz lemon juice Excellent. Potent, bitter, tart, complex, smokey. The bitter orange / cherry / smoke thing is cool.

What did you buy at the liquor store today? (2014 – 2015)

I presume this is in reference to regular Cocchi Americano, not the Rosa. If not, please elaborate. I was eyeing the Rosa (with a slightly different label) in the store today. -

I would love to hear what the Rosa is like. -
My bottle of Bonal is in the refrigerator. Leave the milk out the counter. I'm sure it will be fine.

Yeah. Much nicer than it has a right to be. Just tried it as you did with Tanqueray Old Tom

The Margarita is a cocktail that I like unbalanced -- bracingly sour -- when I'm in a more contemplative mood. It slows the "sip rate." A friend drinks them 3:2:1, where 1 is the liqueur. Now that's a bit much.

1 1/2 tequila 1/2 oz Mezcal 3/4 oz Ancho Reyes 1/2 oz Angostura amaro (sub a few dashes bitters) 3/4 oz lemon 1/4 oz simple Next time I'd back off to 1/2 oz Ancho Reys and lemon and skip the simple. Refreshing with a slow burn. Complex. Interesting.

I recommend you forgo the cherry rather than use neon. Except maybe for Tiki garnishes, which are intentionally tacky.

If I'm rushed or lazy, I make a favorite or variation on a favorite. For example, Perfect Negroni = 1 part spirit, 1 part Campari/Cynar/etc, 1/2 part each Sweet vermouth-like apertif and dry vermouth or other wine. In this way, I'm not getting tired of it. For example, last night I added a couple of dashes of orange bitters to a standard Perfect Negroni (well, with Punt e Mes). Or use Cachaca, Rye, Scotch, Tequila, Mezcal -- really almost anything. If, OTOH, I have a little more time and energy, I try cocktails that I've added to my suggestions (or see on the recent list) on Kindred Cocktails or that I've seen on eGullet. Another idea is to open something like the Beta Cocktails or PDT cocktail book and try something bold. And sometimes I open the cabinet and look for an interesting bottle that has gotten shoved to the back.

"Dear Czequershuus- You account on eGullet has been blocked because you added a marshmallow to a cocktail...."

Trinidad-ish Sour 1 oz Amargo-Vallet Angostura amaro 1 oz Kings Ginger 1/2 oz rye 3/4 oz lemon Lacks the lovely froth of Ango bitters, but a very nice variation.

In Holland, I'm told that genever is served in tiny stemmed glasses, filled to the brim. You sip it before picking it up.

1.5 oz blanco tequila 0.5 mezcal (Vida) 0.25 elderflower liqueur 0.5 Campari 0.75 lime. Sort of a smokey Mexican Bitter Elder. Worth further experimentation.

I found that AP interview, but there isn't much to "rebut" in it. I guess I'll stay tuned.

I could not find an on-line link to said Washington Post review of Twelve Bottle Bar. Anyone have a link?

This sounds spectacular, although I probably would use a single malt to stand up to the soda dilution. Are the Fee bitters a bit like Nocino?

Rafa -- Your comments surprised me because I found them when I compared them, so I tried again. The last time I took small sips of each, back-and-forth. I think this obscured the differences. This time I poured a small glass of dell 'Erborista, sipped it slowly, waited a bit, and then tried the Sibilia. The difference in viscosity and caramel really stood out. I liked them both, but the dell 'Erborista was more off an outlier from the brown amari clustering. Cloudy, bright in texture and flavor, and still deeply bitter. The Sibilia is much richer and darker in color and flavor. I've changed my mind: both are worth having. They are really the only amari that I love neat. Most others are either too sweet or (in the case of Fernet) too menthol-like. I use most of my amari in cocktails. I had expected to be accustomed to the bitter, but was really surprised by the intensity of the effect. The first sip is REALLY lingeringly bitter on the swallow. But with each sip, the bitterness becomes less noticeable until it seems nothing special at all. I have not found this effect with saltiness, sour, or sweet. Hot spice does seem to become a little more tolerable if you keep eating -- until you stop and die.
