and they're fundamentally different too. you can smoke outside, but you can't grab your waitress' ass outside. i'm pushing for that law to be repealed. Depends on the waitress, my friend.

What? What is it?! What is the recipe? That's my favorite movie, favorite scene. I HAVE to HAVE Lloyd's recipe, lissome. Do you know it?

There's "being in a hurry," and then there's "being a dumb-ass." The other day, during a Baking practical (easy, right?: 6 chocolate chip cookies, 6 biscuits, and pastry cream), this kid in class pan-sprayed the baking sheet that had his cookies on it. Of course, his 6 cookies turned into One Big Cookie. Rather than just START OVER (we had like 2 hours left), he STOLE the CHEF'S perfect 6 cookies off the rack and presented them to her as his own. Where is the *slapping-forehead-with-hand* emoticon? She hollered loudly enough to be heard in the basement kitchens.

Aw, come on, Jinmyo . . . what about the *garlic press*?

Hee hee. Greasy stagnant water. Dirty towels!

Yargh, I hate that one! We get one in my neighborhood that plays "Do Your Ears Hang Low" and then this horrible lady's voice blares out: "Hello? He-ll-oooo?" It sits on the corner right outside my window for 10, 15 minutes at a time. I feel like waving a white flag at it.

I also vote for the 4th. Will try to scam a ride.

Good thing I don't live in Japan, then. Whenever I buy condoms, I take out a full-page ad in the paper, and just in case anyone misses that, I also dance up and down the grocery aisles waving the box. Just so everyone knows *I'm* getting laid.

Word. But, even with two cats now, We. Have. So. Many. Bags.

But why ever not?

OK, I wondered if this was it. I've thought of making this before. I'll try it now.

Mmm. Ten High. Just a glass of wine. Something Canyon. It has a bird on the label.

. . . and into the stock pot. Now, that's gross.

torakris, my cousins, who are your kids' age, wouldn't touch those crabs with a ten-foot pole. Bravo! Saturday, a major craving for pizza. One with grilled chicken, brushed with Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce (the Boy loves BBQ chicken pizza ), with smoked mozzarella, a little Kasseri for something different (never had this cheese before, it melts quite well), caramelized red onions, and a blast of chiffonade-d basil. The other with a slow-cooked tomato sauce, smoked mozzarella and Gouda, smeared with roasted garlic, sauteed mushrooms, caramelized Vidalia onions, black olives, and raw tomato. Also topped with basil. OK, so it was overkill. But it satisfied the pizza craving. Oh. And Bell's Oberon. As summer comes to an end.

I got this book for Christmas last year, and I refer to it often. The Vinegar Chicken is excellent, as torakris says. I also enjoy the Crispy Salmon with Lentils and Balsamic Sauce--you gotta' like fish skin to like this preparation. There is another recipe that I've prepared more than once (I don't have the book handy right now). It's also salmon, skin-on, started on the stove and finished in the oven, with a saffron-curry toasted rice that's fantastic. The rice (minus the saffron, usually) has become one of my standby's. The Mushroom Ragout is delicious, and I believe it's meatless. I've served this with frisee et lardons (not her recipe, although if my memory serves me, there is a recipe for this salad in her book). Also good are the foccacia recipes, the Rosemary Breadsticks, and the cobbler recipes. Hey, I'll strike you a deal. You try her gravlax recipe, and report back. This book is worth buying, and not just borrowing. IMO.

Soba: Yargh, I'd forgotten about that ex-boyfriend post. I seriously can't think of a time when I had a truly bad meal at someone else's home, unless it was of my own preparation.

One of the chefs at school mentioned both krill and shrimp. As long as it was good . . .

Please, don't continue with this thread. I will abandon everything else. There's got to be something in between Aaron Burr and Anchor Steam.

i don't have a recipe, but i just chop the tuna to a pleasing texture, same with scallion (green parts), mix them together and add some ponzu for salt/sweetness. put it in a round mold and plop it on top of sliced japanese cucumbers. i top it with roe, as i like the "snap, crackle and pop". i also mix sriracha with mayo, and serve on the side or drizzled over. if i want a spicier richer dish, i mix a bit with the tuna. tommy-- what are those thingies sticking up out of the top?

The other night after lotsa drinking we went to Denny's. My friend kept asking the waitress for more rum in her coke. Thankfully, she doesn't remember this. P.S. Bologna Bowls. Word. Who'd you go to Denny's with?

My requirements are: Triple left-sleeve pocket--one compartment for spoons, one compartment for pens and the thermometer, and one compartment for matches. I hate having to dig around the pens and spoons and thermometer to get the matches out of the bottom of the pocket. And only one other thing. My needs are simple. I'd like a pocket on the other sleeve, too, specially designed to hold a 'taser. So that the next time I catch someone stealing MY heated stock or MY heated cream or MY chinois or walking away from MY table with MY tongs, I can simply zap them in the ankle and bang, they're out cold.
