    Aldi

Is the cream ultra pasteurized? (I'm going to Ogdensburg tomorrow and plan on hitting up Aldi's and Price Chopper so thought I'd ask. Its also why I'm re-reading this thread, to see what is being recommended.)
  2. I used the mini just last night to partially steam some potatoes before roasting them in duck fat. I love that little pot and because of It's size, it lives in a corner on the counter for easy access.
  3. I wholeheartedly agree.
  4. The new Breville Air does have a light. When you open the oven door, the light comes on automatically.
  5. I too am a Breville fan and I looked at this before I eventually bought the IP. I decided that the IP met my needs for about 1/3 of the price of the Breville. I also remembered that they had barely launched it when they had to do a recall. That made the decision even easier. I would rather do the pressure releaee myself snd know when it is going to happen rather than be surprised when it sctually goes off with my hand or arm in front of it.
  6. I think I will decline. If the shipping costs turn out to be $60, it would cost $200 Cdn. and I can buy a brand new one from Amazon for $250Cdn. Thank you anyway, good luck selling it. I'm sure you will have no trouble.
  7. @Toliver No need to apologize. I am a Canadian Prime member. I always like your current sales postings, especially the kindle books. Thanks to you, I am slowly increasing my collection. Now, if I only knew how to use the Kindle app so I didn't have to scroll through the cookbooks one page at a time.
  8. $74.48 Canadian.
  9. I bought some white Whole wheat flour the other day, labelled as Bob's Red Mill Ivory Wheat Flour. I used it to make a loaf of Harvest Grains Bread, based on a recipe on the KAF site. We love it. The whole wheat flavour is not nearly as strong (bitter?) as regular whole wheat flour which for us is a good thing. For as long as I can get my hands on this type of flour, I'll be using it in place of regular whole wheat.
  10. @Chris Hennes do you know if there will be a Modernist Bread @ Home as there was for Cuisine?
  11. @Darienne i looked up the butternut as i thought they were like the ones i brought back from home once. (Woodstock, Ont.) It turned out they were black walnuts. I had read that they needed to dry so I put them on my balcony. As dcarch said, these turned into a big crummy mess. I tried cracking one or two but I couldn't break them open. I have up, held my nose, cleaned the mess up and threw it all out. Now I know the black and white walnuts are not the same thing, but they look very similar with that sort of fuzzy husk. Probably won't help you but I thought I'd mention it.
  12. I stopped in at Whole Foods yesterday and it seemed to me that the store is still the same before Amazon bought it. Organic apples were still $4.99 a pound. However, they had these new-to-me grapes called Moon Drops for sale and i bought some. They're delicious. I also bought some Bob's Red Mill Ivory Wheat Flour. I have never seen ivory/white wheat flour for sale here so was happy to get my hands on some. Fellow Canadians may be interested in knowing that i called Robin Hood and when I asked abiut white whole wheat flour i was huffily told that they had no plans to make any.
  13. I tried these today. They are gawd-awful. They were the broccoli tots.
  14. Agreed. I have the book and it is a lovely looking loaf.
  15. @Anna N Did you make two loaves or did you scale the recipe down?

    Dinner 2017 (Part 6)

Here's ours. Capon with stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, yellow beans, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. @Okanagancook can you give proportions for your cranberry sauce? Mine was just orange juice, sugar and cranberries, put through a food mill because someone doesn't like the skins and a bit of gelatin added to set it. Dulce de leche pumpkin pie with whipped cream for dessert.
  17. @rarerollingobject Stunning, as always. What is that very high bridge in the background?
  18. I just put a dulce de leche pumpkin pie in the oven and realized that the doughboy's sister, Tenderflake, also needs to be acknowledged.
  19. Pie crust. I no longer even try. When I did try, you pretty much needed a knife to cut through it. Pillsbury is my best friend.
  20. I picked up these three books for $5.00 in a thrift shop in Barrie. The 2 Pyrex glass measuring cup set me back $1.50. Just about the happiest $6.50 I ever spent.
  21. If you were closer I'd be first in line. Wishing you much success!

    Dinner 2017 (Part 6)

I once posted a picture where our entire dinner, meat, veg, etc, was pretty much the same colour. Look awful, tasted good. Don't be shy.
  23. I love Denninger's pickled herring. I have two jars of it in my fridge right now. I always bring some back with me whenever I'm down that way. My sister will also bring me some when she comes up. It is the only kind I buy.
  24. This is going to be an expensive topic. I just added those two items to my Amazon wish list.
