  1. for the record, tommy has noted the implied ;) at the end of the above passage. tommy is in no way offended. :(
  2. is this spicy popeye's chicken actually called "cajun" on the menu? i see this on their website, and i have a hankerin for some tonite. any clarification is appreciated. thanks!
  3. i just discovered a Popeye's near me, and now all of this discussion and ron's suggestion of "maybe for dinner tonght..." all that i can say to you, sir, is, You son of a b*tch! now there's no way that i'll be able to *not* have popeye's for dinner tonite!!! (i would have much preferred something more healthy). i have to stop reading these boards. they are getting me much too fat.

    Beer v. Wine

i don't think that particular discussion would be complete without including herion, opiates of all sorts, etc.
  5. i am rarely, if ever, offended or bothered by a waiter's enthusiasm or knee-jerk response of "excellent choice." i've got far bigger things to be concerned with, such as if *I* am going to say something to offend someone at the table. after reading that article yesterday, i thought "gee, i guess the Times needed some filler." that being said, i was a pleasant enough read, and far more interesting that his story about the chicken/rooster/whatever-it-was-that-was-in-his-backyard from a few months ago. ;)
  6. there are a bunch of korean places there. i was at one the other night. read here the molly wee, on 9th and 31st or so, has one of the best burgers in the city. well, that might be a stretch, but they're pretty good. it's a pub though.
  7. the kosher nosh in Glen Rock also, take a look at this thread
  8. i went last night. i'm having such mixed feelings about the place that i can't even put any thoughts together. as mrs. tommy said "i don't think we'll be jumping in the car [to go back] any time soon."
  9. how about this: i'm eating one right now!! do i win something!?!?! i find it interesting that judging from the tone of these posts, most of us are actually somewhat *proud* of the crap we put down out gullets!!
  10. i pithy the fool. when i had the burger for lunch it came with fries. really really good fries as i recall. was it an option yesterday?
  11. i was thinking more along the lines of the late 70s early 80s pop band "The J. Geils Band" known for their classics "Love Stinks" and "P*ss on the Wall". This you is certainly not!! :)

please, be as prolixitous as you want, just stop using such big words!!!! ;) nice review. you just got me very hungry. and on behalf of me, may i say "welcome."
  13. is there a website for this place? (why every restaurant doesn't have one by now is beyond me)
  14. tao is one of my favorite spots for "fun" food. i gotta give this place a try!
  15. Peter Wolf, is the Angel your Centerfold? sorry, but i can't stop myself from thinking of the J. Geils Band every time i see one of yours posts!! (your name, it's familiar)
  16. you will find a vast array of not only asian foods, but foods from around the world at the internation food mart. you'd be hard pressed to find one single place in chinatown that would have anywhere near the selection of asian foods. i'd take the trip. what the heck, it's not far. stop in hoboken for lunch.
  17. first time through the tunnel? ;) i hope you're coming in search of asain ingredients. they do have quite a selection. although, i'm sure most can be found in chinatown. the meat is relatively inexpensive here. the fish always looks dodgy, but you can judge for yourself. there's nothing much else that i can say. good luck!
  18. i'm surprised there isn't more action on this thread. with the millions of korean places down there, it would be nice to know some standouts. i happened upon a place on 32nd street a few nights ago. it was called Cum Kang San at 49w 32nd.. it was a bright bi-level place connected to a hotel, just east of B'way. the BBQ was very good, although i thought it was pricey at about 18 or 19 bucks for each meat BBQ dish. kimchee was plentiful and delicious. service attentive. there was a jazz duet which was a nice touch. does anyone have any sure-fired bets down in this area?? or any other area for that matter? 19. FlufferMutter. heheh. seriously, fluffernutter is digusting. has no one mentioned vegimite (sp?) yet?
  20. there is one, probably the one you're talking about, about 2 doors down from Wondee's. it is indeed a great little place, filled with hard-to-find products.
  21. i've been to a newish place called Cascina several times. italian. cool room. reasonable prices. wine list is reasonably priced. their website has more info and a sample menu. however, their daily menu is much bigger and much more exciting.

    The Best Butter

it is my impression that butter tries very hard to *kill* you. sounds like this butter is trying a little harder, going the extra mile. you gotta respect it for that. :)

    Par-Boiling Ribs?

i thought that seemed a little strange coming from you. although, which could you live without if you had no choice but to give up one: BBQ sauces, or pork. hmmmm.
  25. we love pigs in a blanket. although we've never made them on our own. one of the prominent hot dog companies make them, and for the convenience they're worth it. serve with some champagne and spicy chinese mustard and you've got yourself one h*llavu hors d'oeuvre!!! we used to snicker at our friends for having them for guests. who were we kidding, we loved 'em! as rachel says, everyone (well, most) love them!
