well, i made it. i think it was one of those high expectation situations. i wasn't blown away, although it was pretty good. i first have to comment on how nice the place was. brand new everything, lots of attention to detail. a good looking place, considering i was expecting a hole in the wall. it's obvious there's some money behind this place. i don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. the soup arrived piping hot in a hot bowl. this soup remained hot during the whole meal. and it was very good. we had the mushroom tofu soup (didn't want to overdose on meat). it's a meal alone. we ordered the other 2 things on the menu. the boolgogi was very good. i can't remember where i've had this, and i stayed awake half the night trying to. this morning it dawned on me that it was probably at Mi in nyc. a decent place as well BTW. the BBQ ribs were brought out and cut at our table. a pain in the arse to eat actually. but really flavorful. i found that if you put your chopsticks parallel to the bone, with the meat facing you, you can pull the meat off while using the bone as an anchor btwn your chopsticks. half the fun was trying to figure out how to eat them without looking like an idiot. the kimchee was standard, with the exception of the pickled cucumbers, which were my favorite. the tea tasted like a bowl of water would if you left cheerios in it for a few hours. very strange. too strange i think. then they pour some tea into the rice bowl and it all just gets too confusing. i frantically looked around to see what the other people were doing with this bowl of rice tea. turns out they eat it. what a shock. mine was cold by the time i got to it, so we didn't eat it. while we were there, they were retrofitting the lovely tables with electric powered grills. i have to assume that they'll be expanding the menu and allowing table grilling soon, as the 2 existing menu items are probably best left to the kitchen. no liquore license. very little english. not very expensive. does anyone know if they serve beer? there's nothing i like better with my rice tea soup stuff than a cold beer. and i'm going tonite. my 11th hour plea last night wasn't very effective, but i'm hoping someone gets back to me soon!

for what it's worth, the pasta tasting at babbo was one of my most memorable meals. i had it the first time i was there i think. for what it's worth additionally, at least one of their signature dishes is pasta, and will most likely appear on the tasting, 'specially if you ask (beef cheek ravioli).

you can't even imagine how much we wanted that last night. ;)

they are exactly the opposite to use when some idiot in front of you has the settings so effed up that it takes him/her 10 minutes to get the bread toasted. i find it interesting that people are so intimidated by the speed setting on this high-tech piece of equipment. sloooowerrrrrr = brooownerrrrr... :)

glad you enjoyed it. i forgot all about the birds flying around! i guess i'm just used to it!

is the pay-out calculated by the pound? i think i should sue the guy who sells me pot because it makes me lethargic, which in turn makes me want to eat and not want to go to the gym. and to paraphrase denis leary, can i sue john dever for making me into a p*ssy in the 70s?

maybe not, but i'll bet it made you drunk! tell me you didn't drink all ten shots. after the fifth i wouldn't be able to tell the difference btwn the floor and the ceiling.

i'll buy the label aspect, but i don't buy into the color switch. just too unbelievable. on the other hand i can sympathize with the experts as i'm generally talking out of my rump as well.

i've never been blown away by cafe panache. i tihnk if the room didn't suck so hard it might be a more enjoyable experience for me. it's just a horrible room...no place to wait, people waiting on top of you, too cramped, etc.

i'm more amazed at the fact that Jamiroquai can still afford his mortgage payments. at the very least, you gotta love jamie for putting together a compilation CD of very cool british music to "cook by" for release, and plopping a song by his own unsigned band at the end of it. shameless. brilliant, but shameless.

but my time, the time i'd spend shopping for a new toaster every couple of years, is worth much more. additionally, this toaster *will* last to the end of time. so, reviewing the math, i've spent the same, and the cost of my time is much less. i'm coming out ahead. looking foolish perhaps, but ahead nonetheless. what's a t-bill? ;)

i'm having a hard time getting this link, although it seems that it might be interesting. can someone re-post in a more user-friendly fashion? the cut-and-paste method isn't working for me. thanks.
