  1. super-smug scientific bastard.
  2. this idea is statistically based, which means "who the hell knows." i'd imagine that vegetarians, more than non vegetarians, smoke less. that is enough to explain the stat. it might very well have nothing to do with food, and it's very difficult to prove either way.
  3. no suvir. however, i'm working towards my degree in Smuggery. with a concentration in Snobbery.
  4. it seems that this is the only point it's really making (i haven't read it). and considering anyone with half a brain knows this, it seems that this is a fluff piece and would be better suited for the New York Post. you know, that paper that stupid people read.
  5. Tony, if you don't want it, can I have that for my sig? Steve, you have the most amazing facility for only reading what you want to read. ™ well damn, bux, i was just about to hit *you* up for my new sig: "Persistent posting pedants are an important part of eGullet." one could even argue that they are the "heart and soul." god forbid. although adding that would ruin the alliteration.
  6. well sh*t. you ask for smug scientific bastards and they come a runnin'!

    Unknown wine

loire reds can be had for 10-16 bucks. i'm with martyl on those, 'specially those from chinon. long island does some fun stuff with cab franc, as rich suggests. however, they are hard to come by outside of the NYC area.
  8. ah, the ole wine cask. right-o.
  9. double hehehehe. and i don't even know what a "kishke" is.
  10. hehehehe.
  11. i think there are certainly situations where it costs more to cook than to eat out. not having read the article i have to wonder what their point was though.
  12. Any last minute opinions? It's about to be installed. giving this some (very) quick thought, i occurs to me that it should probably be in the sink that will have the least amount of stuff in it, because you probably will be pushing scraps from the counter and plates into the thing and you'll want that stuff down and out immediately. so, as marlene suggests, the smaller sink sounds right. it will rarely be so full that you can't get the food down to the disposal. whereas the big sink might have a lot of dishes or you might have a big pot soaking, etc.
  13. yeah yeah what he said! i forgot to vote: i would say that i wouldn't want to have to go through life without raw fish, sans rice. however, without water, i would simply cease to exist.
  14. yes.... sushi for me I thought raw fish was sashimi, sushi does not have to contain fish at all. "sushi" is generally raw fish (or cooked, or anything else really) with rice and a shmear of wasabi. "sashimi" is raw fish alone. the term "sushi," however, is often used to describe both when one isn't being too specific. at least here in the states.
  15. and the stuff comedy routines are made of.

you'll probably remain as plump as you are.
  17. does *anyone* remember CiCi's, at the Point Pleasant boardwalk? i have memories of this being the best pizza that i've ever had, anywhere. i would love to wax nostaglic with someone who remembers the damned place (the competition burned it down in about 1984 or so).

Whatever the chemistry there are a lot of skinny alcoholics. (I'm not one of them. )i was thinking the same thing. although i think those people drink breakfast lunch and dinner.
  19. WHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. nothing personal, of course.
  20. this one has butter, more meat, less milk, brodo, uses whole coanned instead of 6 oz of paste, and doesn't include a cup of water as the one in gourmet does. it was flavorless.
  21. as the breeze suddenly shifted, the plotnimarines finally realized that they were pissing in the wind.
  22. yes, we're still here. and we're kinda busy hell-oooooh?!
