  1. only if the restaurant has windows ®
  2. i'm not sure i agree with it. as far as suzanne f's commentary goes, i have no idea what a "data-type" is, so i can't comment.
  3. what you're suggesting is that there should be guidelines and inspections, and the results should be made public for those who care, no? the article touches on changing the system a bit, and also training for the employer/employee. i am all for education, and think that it is one of the single most important remedies for society's ills. however, how you can teach a 4 dollar an hour kid who doesn't speak english how to wipe is arse is beyond me. good luck, though. i don't want to see anyone get sick.
  4. my mother didn't cook and i'm a very accomplished home cook. mrs. tommy's mother cooked all the time and was/is incredible, and mrs. tommy don't cook. it ain't science at all. there goes your theory.
  5. "unless there is a clear offense." mice infestation clearly falls into that category. feces on the floor, hell, i'd say that was bad too. something that generally speaking flags a "conditional," probably not a big deal. the guy who didn't wash his hands after wiping apparently caused 95 people to become sick, well, i'd like to see the "inspector" write up a place for that. i also find that very had to believe. john whiting hasn't opined on this issue here yet. i will continue to eat out, and not worry about it.
  6. i don't know if it's "irresponsible," but it's certainly sensationalistic. people who are into eating out don't care about this nonsense. unless there is a clear offense, it's pretty much a bunch of nonsense.
  7. your parents' habits or abilities don't necessary correlate to your own. unless you were being sarcastic, i'm failing to see your point.

  9. the breakfast tatters at fink's are pretty good. i can sense a liberal amount of butter on them, if i'm not mistaken. recently tried the steak salad. it's fanstastic. the steak is super flavorful with great texture. and, as i may have mentioned on this thread (or not), the cheesesteak is fantastic.
  10. if "N", the waiter must check the rest of the guests who have potatoes. at least to me it seems that way. so leaving the table is not part of that conditional. also, the conditional of "is that enough" should be included, or else it really isn't effecient. sour cream on potato is *not* a boolean operation.
  11. oh. *that* clears it up. huh? you mean he brought it out? spooned it out? pooped it out? still 'fused.
  12. this is most likely an important part of their approach, which is to remain consistent and take any variables out of the equation. once you start leaving it up to the customer, you are opening up an opportunity for the service staff to decide on their own, and then you have problems. remove all variables. then again, is it really necessary?
  13. sooo, do we know if a new on opened on the east side in midtown? i still haven't figured this out. thanks for any additional input on this (he said, crossing his fingers and hoping that anyone still cares enough!).
  14. i'm guessing it means the potatoes were split and had the sour cream applied by the waiter on the table. if that's the case, i'm not sure that it's a service aspect that i would even want. let's see what nick has to say.
  15. well, RPT probably one of the top 3 in northern NJ. i just happen to enjoy frankie and johnnies better overall. however, none can compare with the top steakhouses in NYC imho, and that's the benchmark that i'm (perhaps unfairly) using.
  16. indeed it is. availability of fresh sage probably a function of where you live. lot's of communities way out in the 'burbs are still playing catch-up re decent food stores, restaurants, etc. not to mention, an awful lot of younger people read the WSJ, and i'd be willing to bet that a lot of them have no idea what fresh sage is. they're probably struggling, don't know how to cook, and they are also most likely the target audience for the article (which i still haven't read).
  17. food: 22 service: 19 decor: 21 $: 27 health code violations: consistent with "cockroaches crawling over my pradas" and "great burgers and fries," this "garbage dumpster sent straight from heaven" offers a bit for everyone. a "madhouse" of an ice cream parlor adorns this "filthy" and "mice-infested" psuedo-chinese. nay-sayers opine "more rat poison!" while fans enthuse "you can hardly taste the droppings." edited for consisent bad speeling.
  18. why? what types of places don't offer fresh sage? i'm thinking that in a lot of rural areas, fresh sage is hard to come by.
  19. to clarify, both morton's and M&S's take reservations.
  20. "great review," nick. i've "been wondering" about these places and have been looking 'foward' to you reporting back. *brilliant* *use* of quotes, i might "add."
  21. i'm pretty sure that there's no corkage fee at matisse. it's still technically a byob if i'm not mistaken. if i am, well then i'm sure someone will tell me. here is their website. it says "We will be closed for vacation September 16th - October 3rd. Re-opening on October 4th." this might make and decision a bit easier.
  22. please to click me for that link. cafe matisse is much smaller than SG. it's also a bit more intimate and romantic by some standards. i haven't been to SG since the change in hands a few yrs back, but if the decor hasn't changed it much bigger and brighter. cafe matisse is very good. one of the better restaurants in NJ. and, in case it wasn't mentioned, it is BYO. SG is not BYOB.
  23. oh. my. god. that's probably the funniest post. ever.
  24. Is smoking hemp considered smoking? Many of those vegans and vegetarians love smoking weed. smoking is just an example. any factor that contributes to cancer could be substituted. of course, if you want to, we can guess about the relative affects of smoking cigs vs smoking dope. my guess is dope is the lesser offender, as you wouldn't smoke 20 or 30 joints a day. well, not unless it's a really good day.
  25. it's either true or it's not. 2 choices. and if it's true, and that isn't considered when analyzing the cancer stats, then you might as well not be analyzing anything. and if you haven't considered every other factor that affects ones chance of getting cancer (to a reasonable extent) then your study is for shit. and yes, my guess is that vegetarians are probably more health conscious than the average bear, and smoke less.
