  1. oh, well, in *that* case.
  2. while the logic seems obvious, i'm thinking it might have more to do with the intake of carbs and protein the night before. then again, i'm also thinking that it doesn't work this way anyway (going back to the apparent paradox of every diet suggesting 3 meals a day rather than 2).
  3. during the week, if i don't have breakfast, i'm super hungry by noon. and i hate being super hungry. breakfast during the week is just a box of dry cheerios and a coffee. although, if any hangovers are introduce to the equation, a sausage mcmuffin with egg is thrown in. on the weekends, i don't generally eat breakfast. i suppose the difference is that i'm up at 6.30 during the week, and 9.30 on the weekends, so i can easy wait til lunch on the weekend. that was very cathartic. thank you all.
  4. rest assured, they're still filled with anti-social dorks.
  5. Congrats bro! I didnt know you was gonna be a College Grad!! yup. and by the time i'm 29 as well. i'm registered at williamssonoma.com for those who are interested. thanks in advance, dr. tommy
  6. lady t (and others), high-end mexican doesn't interest me all that much for this trip. i've got a few fine choices here in NYC. i was hoping for a "unique" experience. although, fine dining can oftentimes be cookie-cutter. perhaps a place that everyone loves, and few hate. kinda like March in NYC, rather than Daniel, for anyone who's been. actually, more like Union Pacific or Gramercy. another rec that i moved on, from southern girl, which blew me away, was Nobhill in LV. anything like that would be supreme. i'll be out for a college graduation, so my time will be limited. i'd love to meet all of you folks, but i don't know that this next trip will allow it. but, i'm in chicago once every other year or so, and, if egullet is still around, i'd love to get together, and i'd love for someone to "show me the town."
  7. Tommy-- Please tell me of these cheaper options in the same neighborhood-- Going with a party of 6-- Need Broadway-70s-80s area. Thanks. i don't know of much in that area. my point was that there are better asian places around.
  8. ok, i take back the "no jacket" requirement, although i don't want to go to a stuffy old-school french place. if the people around me are averaging 60 years old, i'm in the wrong place. arun is involved in this Red Light? sounds interesting.
  9. additionally, many most likely did not realize how much time and money would have to be put into their website. it became obvious very quickly that if you wanted to stay competitive, you had to have a kick-ass website. the old model of simply providing content became outdated very quickly. websites are a large part of the "package" for many businesses, especially print.
  10. forgive me for asking a question whose answer can no doubt be found in the mass of threads here, but... 1 dinner in chicago. where should it be? no jackets, please. no steak. no uptight service. this approach worked well for me when i had questions on Philly. hopefully you folks can help. thoughts?
  11. but didn't you see it coming? is it such a shock that you were so taken by surprise that you're upset? a site can't just start charging from the get-go. no one would sign up. that's just the way these things progress. fat guy told me in an expert pm that egullet was going to start charging by the post. i'm cutting way back.
  12. a crock? don't know about that. seems like smart business to me. and certainly, if you're giving away content, your shareholders are going to eventually become very upset when you start hemorraging green.
  13. seems like the fault could lie with the Times for quoting that bit suggesting that Zagat was suggesting that the decor was the downfall of the restaurant. damned journalists. roast 'em all.
  14. seems like it was just the opinion of a well-known food-type guy who thought the place looked outdated and oldschool. an opinion shared, no doubt, by countless other non-experts.
  15. haven't been in years, but i put it in the same category as Rain: mediocre, uninspired, "asian-fusion." why settle for this when there are so many other options? cheaper options at that.
  16. shugga, is Park Steak BYO? mignon offers an unmatched value, in my opinion, for wine drinkers. what do you like more about the steak at Park than Mignon, if anything.
  17. HA! i did this to wilfrid once (long after this thread/post). he ordered a chinon, for my benefit i suppose, and i noted several times how horrible it was. not that i was blaming *him* or anything. but, i suppose that pissed him off. this is quite a blast from the past.
  18. just saw this. any additional word on this place? i remember traps. they used to have very good pizza, and great blues/rock bands in the front years back. it was all going very well. then they turned into some sort of multi-level club type of thing, and the place went to hell in a handbasket. it really was one of the best spots in hoboken through the 80's and into the early 90's. oh well.
  19. i'm probably going to radicchio in Ridgewood, a place i hate. the food is pretty good, but their policy is to have about 20 specials, and to not print them. you have to sit through a dissertation by the server, at least twice, to hear them. it's obnoxious, idiotic, foolish, offensive, and baffling. i vowed to never return after my last visit there about 2 years ago. however, peer pressure may have gotten the best of me. rest assured, i will not enjoy myself, and i will not post anything positive about it, even if the food blows my pants off.

sounds like it wasn't from the "cheap" list. my recent trip there came in at about 380 before tip (cheap list, 6 courses i think). and that included 2 $25 beggars purses.
  21. jesus, that's been obvious since they even suggested the law. i'm wondering if the city, in all of their wisdom, has a plan for this. my guess is "no." the smokers and their poison are no longer the problem of the patrons and the barstaff. they are now the problem of the people trying to sleep.

ron, i think i recall two "levels" of wine pairings at March. one, obviously, is more expensive. do you know if the selections that you had were exclusively from one, or the other? or perhaps from neither? i've never considered requesting selections from both, but think that it would be nice to not have to work within the parameters of the one list or the other.

let the record show that i had something to do with this decision as well.
  24. when did they change the name?
  25. from my understanding, the smokers. haven't found anything online yet. liar: here's something brief.
